I just picked up the book "Beverly Hills Beauty Secrets" at the library, and the cover says "A Prominent Dermatologist and Plastic Surgeon's Insider Guide to Facial Rejuvenation." It's written by Douglas Hamilton, MD, and Babak Azizzadeh, MD. The book is pretty thorough, but it's easy reading.
One section I thought worth sharing discusses the skin-care products that actually do create change. This is not an all-inclusive list, but I thought it was enlightening on what products they chose to list as examples:
Neostrata - Although there are many hydroxy acid companies, they chose to list Neostrata becuase it was founded and managed by Dr. Eugene Van Scott and Dr. Ruey Yu, who are the world's recognized experts in glycolic acid research.
Revaleskin cream: Chosen because it is the first professional line of anti-aging skin care they are aware of that contains Cofeeberry.
We're all aware that Priori also makes coffeeberry products, but I think Revaleskin is still a higher concentration. My own derm recommends Revaleskin, so I have just started using the night cream.
Tri-Luma: The most widely used prescription bleaching agent in the US.
302 protein drops: Derived from avocado, it has the unique ability to thicken skin, both dermis and epidermis. They prescribe it to help reverse the skin-thinning effects of aging.
In the section on a preventive skin-care regimen, they recommend the following lines:
Neova (copper peptides) for wrinkle prevention.
NIA 24 for people with fair skin who have had sun damage. They noticed a softening of color irregularity and reduction in scaling, precancerous growths.
Antioxidants such as Replenix and Citrix. They are looking at recent developments using Persimmon leaf.
Broad-spectrum sunscreens: Perhaps the most important prevent measure for sun damage and aging. |

This is a very nice overall review of those skin care lines. I'm sure it will help other decide what they want to focus on for their skin. So far, I don't have to worry about lightening my skin. I'm focused on prevention and keeping my skin hydrated. |

I thought this might help people if they are on the fence about a certain product. I've been reading every bit of the 302 thread myself, but have yet to take the plunge. |

Wow, thanks for posting this Nadjazz. This is the first time I have ever heard of a book recommending 302, or actually ever heard of it being mentioned outside of a forum! How exciting. When was this book published? |

Nadine, thanks for the overview!!
Do they address that some of the products cannot be used in tandem, like the 302 and the acids? |

The book sounds interesting - and current - that's a plus. it has me intrigued.
Just some random thoughts:
I wonder why no mention of retinoids or Vit C? And then what about the advocates of other anti-aging formulas?
I guess what we're looking at are educated opinions based on scientific evidence. Wouldn't it be interesting to be at a round table discussion of many similar experts and get everyone's opinions and discussion of why.
They also sounded very brand specific and I wonder why? I know some brands can be better - more research, potency, etc but... No mention of Dr. Pickart in the copper peptide arena???? |

My thoughts are that there are other brands that can and do remarkble things to change the face. The two that I can think of are Karen Herzog and Jan Marini. Their products are excellent. I'm sure there are some others that aren't mentioned.
Aside from that, this is an interesting post and thank you, Nadjazz, for informing us about this book. It's very interesting. |

No, the book does not go into that level of detail. I would say it’s more of a primer on facial rejuvenation. Keep in mind, they also discuss surgery options, and it’s not a big book, so not a whole lot of it was dedicated to topicals.

Actually, the book did mention retinoids, but as I recall, they felt that there are now better products on the market, and retinoids are no longer the “gold” standard. Sorry, I may not be stating exactly what they said, the book was due back today, LOL.
As for Vit C, yes, it was mentioned in the category of antioxidants. they specifically called out a line of vit C products called Citrix, and I’m pretty sure vit C was mentioned elsewhere in the book.
You are right, there was no mention of Dr. Pickart, but didn’t he have some kind of connection with Neova way back when?
As for being brand specific, I want to emphasize that they just listed these as examples, not an all-inclusive list. I gathered that these are products they have found to be effective in their practice, but in no way did they imply that their products were better than others.
As for a roundtable discussion of experts, my own dermatologist hosts a show on blogtalkradio that is starting to get some interesting guests. I’ll post more as I learn some details.

I totally agree, leeleedeedee, that there are other brands that can bring remarkable change. As I stated in my original post, those were some examples, not an all-inclusive list. The wording in the book stated something like “some examples are…” , so I must emphasize that they did not imply that anything not on their list was ineffective. |

Don't feel bad at all, Nadjazz. I am SO glad you posted about this book. If nothing else, I guess I will feel like I have a piece of history with the mentioning of 302 in a book! |

rileygirl, I'm so glad you are not disappointed!
I've been using the Revaleskin night cream for less than a week, so too soon to tell. My derm is a big believer in coffeeberry, as he participated in a clinical study that showed it offered strong protection against UVB. Because of its antioxidant power, he also takes it internally. He says its antioxidant power is something like 10 times more than green tea.
My first reaction to the night cream: it made my skin soft, hydrated, and glowing without looking greasy. It plumped up the skin, so large pores became almost non-existent. The main reason I'm trying it is to reduce the redness from my rosacea. I was very surprised to see that it smoothed out the rosacea bumps on my chin. So far, I am impressed.
Still, I can get a similar effect with Dr. Kassy's rosacea cream, posted over in the DIY section of this forum. The night cream (1.7 oz) retails for about $110, but my derm sells it for $80, which is about what it goes for on ebay. I was fortunate that he gave me the first bottle for free. I my derm. I will post a real review once I finish the bottle.
As for 302, there is a loooong but very informative thread here that's worth a read. I gather it takes a commitment to stay away from other products, which is why I haven't taken the plunge yet. Rileygirl is a frequent contributor to that thread!

Where do you purchase 302? What's the "magic" ingredient in it? Anyone? |

I just got done reading some other posts and am completely intrigued by 302. Is there anywhere online to purchase it? |

It's an avocado compound known as avocatin or Avogen.

302 doesn't offer it online but you can work long distance with a 302 esthetician and buy it through them. Boski lists a few contact points in her FAQ thread in Q4 Where to Buy It:
