From what I remember using a denture tablet solution causes dermarollers to weaken and split (I only tried that once though). Sterilising fluid is another option? |

I have heard that some people soak their dermaroller in soem hydrogen peroxide, let it air dry spray 70% alcohol on it and put it in its case. |

The manufacturer of the MTS roller says that:
"MTS Roller™ can withstand repeated immersion in “cold sterilization” agents such as germicides (phenol, ethyl alcohol) and Cidex™ (glutaraldehyde), and common ultra-sound cleaning devices. Rinse rollers thoroughly before using and return to its protective case after drying"
Ethyl alcohol is not really a "cold sterilization" agent since it doesn't have a good sporicide action. If used, it should be used in 90%+ concentration and the instrument should be soaked for a long time (10 hours).
Glutaraldehyde is the better sterilizing agent but you also need to soak the instrument for 10 hours. You also need to be cautious when handling glutaraldehyde since it's an irritant and toxic.
For disinfection, you could use either a povidone-iodine solution or tincture of iodine or lugol. |

Glutaraldehyde is not sold to the public. |

Hi,
Sorry I usually take the glutaraldehyde from the hospital when I want to sterilize something at home (or bring the stuff to the hospital) so I didn't know glutaraldehyde was not sold to the public.
I guess then your best choice would be either povidone-iodine solution or tincture of iodine or lugol. Keep in mind that these things will disinfect the dermaroller but not sterilize it. |

I did some reading online regarding the differences between disinfecting and sterilizing.
Do I need to be concerned about sterilization if I am not sharing my dermaroller with any one else? (unlike syringes or ear piercing or tattoo tools)
That said, I have been disinfecting my dermarollers with chlorhexidine (I had been using a solution of chlorhexidine diluted with water in my dental irrigator per my dentists prescription) and I understand it to be a strong disinfectant.
Povidone Iodine is easier to obtain and likely, cheaper too.
I understand that a 6% peroxide solution is also not sold over the counter.
Advice appreciated, BF |
