Hi, Guys, Has anyone heard of making your own retin-a? I was on the RealSelf (?) forum. I think someone said you could make your own. However, no details were given. Any thoughts? Thanks! |

Hi Mars.
My very first DIY experiment involved making a Vitamin A serum by cooking down baby carrots with sesame oil in a mini-crockpot. Don't ask me where I got this idea - somewhere on the internet. Suffice it to say, it was a smelly little concoction I used for a couple weeks with no results whatsoever and wasn't displeased to throw it out.
I have retin -a on order, first time I'll be trying it. It would be cool if there IS an effective DIY retin treatment - I'd love to save on those high shipping charges from India. |

All Day Chemist. Got an email from them today saying it had been shipped.
Mars, did you try the Black Currant Seed Oil capsules yet? They are another thing I want to try. Curious as to what you think about them if you have been taking them. |

Interested in this topic...
But personally I think eating baby carrots is a better way to provide Ret-A to the body and ultimately to the skin.... |

The Personal Formulator sells "Reti-Star", which is stabilized retinol in an oily dispersion. It's fairly expensive...about $100 per ounce, but lasts forever as you should never add more than 1% to a formulation. |

Several years ago, I was taking beta carotene tablets. My skin turned yellowy/orangey. My derm asked me what I was doing. When I told him, he said to stop taking them as the beta carotene was coloring my skin.
Reti-Star? hmmmmm.... |
