Poll :: If you were able to rent a high-end aesthetic machine, like a radio frequency machine to sculpt fatty areas, would you rent it? The rental price would be substantially lower than visiting a spa to have it done.

I'm taking a poll on the renting of beauty machines.

I replied no because of:
- Most high end machines require training, and improper usage can cuase some permanent side effects
- Many units would be difficult/costly to transport
- Frequent mailing of smaller units could also impact the calibration, and therefore the performance and risk
- Who would be responsible for cleaning the machine appropriately before the next person?

The concept is interesting, but the number of machines that would qualify would probably be limited.

An offshoot of that could be people buying a unit together and rotating usage.

I am definitely with Bethany on this one. I also read your thread below this one where you stated the renter would be responsible for repairs. I would definitely not rent from a place like that. You own it, you fix it. Also, if I personally were to rent at all, it would have to be from a professionally trained reputable company. That's my 2 cents! Very Happy

oK - I would ; Now dependes on the contract - for example I don't like being responsible of any problems but you can still work on this clause.
And the business can be only local so not too much shiping.
And I really would do it for example I would rent a laser machine for hair removal as I am not sure if the home version works for me and I want to try it before .

And yes even the home version of the machines it will be nice to try it before . Lets say like this : most of the beauty machines have a return policy that not includes the shiping fee and in this case for a 300 $ machine you pay around 40-50 $ shiping so for me it would be nice just to rent it for 30 $ for a month . The idea is good still needs some work here.

About the training ... hmm ..I have to think about it...has to be a solution... anyway the machines have to be very smart choosen

And I think that it can work is the same as renting tools , isn't it ?

OK. THanks for your responses. What if I were to make a lot of literature available for the operation and background of the machine, and a short training course for the renter?

Whadya think?

I think you would have to look at the educational requirements for operation of the tool, and your personal liability if something went wrong.

You might also want to look at buying used equipment...models coming off a lease, or shared (and moved) between various offices are much less expensive.

Are you going to pay to have the user travel to wherever they need to go to get that short training course? Are you going to pay for the training course? Every "machine" I have bought comes with instructions, and the ability to call the professional that I bought it from with any questions I may have.

I would give it to them.

Ok, so when you say a short training course, you are just talking about paper instructions included with the machie, is that right?

No, a hands-on instruction along with a lot of literature available for the operation and background of the machine.

Where is the person going to get the hands-on instruction?

No suggestions just yet, but hopefully some of my questions are helping you think of some things!

Me, Dear. I will be giving the instruction.

I'm glad for the feedback.

Also, whoever said that I should be responsible for repairs, I agree with, after thinking about it.

I would be interested. But only with some guarantee and customer service. What if the machine failed just after I used it? That makes me nervous.

Having rented machines in the past, and no, I don't mean beauty machines. I'm talking about paint sprayers, floor sanders etc. the stores added a $10 insurance fee to the rental cost to cover any damages by the user.
Something you might want to think about when establishing a rental fee Inky.

I answered 'no' on the poll because personally I wouldn't want to use any device involving my skin that someone else had previously used + I agree with the points that Bethany made.

I think it would be risky. Get an ironclad contract with any and all liability on what is covered, who's responsible for what. Depending on the type of machine do you need some type of license to use the equipment. Even with training what if the person causes injury to a client using your machine. State board regulations if it pertains to you. Dot all your i's and cross all your t's.
