If so, what did you have done and what was your experience?
I'm thinking of getting a few porcelain veneers or possibly some boding done on my teeth. Possibly the ZOOM whitening as well. We'll see. Nothing too major. I had braces when I was younger, but lost my retainer when I was about 14 or so. I've developed a slight gap in my front teeth and I am SOOO self consious about it. I hardly ever smile.
I'm most worried about $$$. How much do cosmetic dentistry procedures usually cost?
I'm just worried because I'm a student so $$ is tight, but I dislike my smile so much that it just might be worth it to come up with the cash to have it done.

| never had anything besides braces. I presume it's all expensive. I looked into the laser whitening and they wanted $800 so I got the crest whitestrips that taste like CRAP, but worked... |

| I'm sorry that I can't remember the cost but...I had my front teeth evened on the edges (they had little tiny bumps on the bottoms) & where one tooth slightly overlapped another, the side edge was gradually smoothed down so they, were to the naked eye, even & in line. What a difference it made! I have also had bonding done on a lower front tooth that had chipped. All was done about 10 or 15 years ago now & everything is still fine. Good luck! |

I checked the ZOOM whitening with my kids' dentist office, they said it's about $600.00. If you have a good credit card with a very low interest rate, you can possibly charge it and pay $100.00 per month? in 6 months time. Other Credit card do offer 0% interest if paid in 6 or even to a year. Maybe you want to look into that?
Crest or other OTC whitening are quite good too, but again it's about the ingredients thats quite different (like maybe how much % of those whitening stuff are) according to my girlfriend (since high school) who's a dentist too Angelica Ang, DDS . I checked with her (hoping I'll get a discount?  - only she's about 5 hrs. drive away from me). If you want to do a trial and error for the whitening, maybe you want to look into those OTC ones. You might save a lot of money that way. |

I had veneers done due to enamel erosion. they were ok, but did tend to fall off occasionally. Last time my nice new dentist suggested crowning them instead as a more permenant solution. As it was NHS and free I went for it...veneers are well pricey if you have to pay, and as I may one day escape the poverty trap, I really don't wanna be forking out £300 quid every time I knock one off!
As to having a slight gap...I kinda think it's cute even madge has one! All these american superwhite, super perfect smiles are ok and say that you are wealthy, but they look boring and devoid of personality! |

Thanks guys. I'm still looking into it.
I think I'm going to make a consultation with a dentist and see what they say.
I do have a credit card with a kind of low interest rate, but it would be really good if I could find one with 0% interest. I have great credit and get offers in the mail almost daily, but I usually just shred them.
Since I don't have any bills really, I could probably pay it off pretty fast. I'm just scared of having any debt at all...even if it is for a short time.
We'll see.
Keep the advice coming! I like to hear about other people's experiences with this stuff!

ECK!! I wouldn't go into credit cards to pay for something that wasn't absolutely necessary....you never know when something might come up that's absolutely necessary (like hospital bills)
Some dentists will take a zero interest monthly payment....but I guess that's not much different... |

I have some veneers & to me they were worth the money. the first one I had about 10 years ago and I have never had a problem (touch wood). I love my veneers. They are not American white though as my dentist said they would look too unnatural. Although had I been able to get all my teeth done I would have insisted on whiter than white.(like Ross in friends).

About 4-5 yars ago, before all the commercial OTC whitening products became so big, I whitened my teeth with a product from my dentist. He made molds of my teeth and then gave me these plastic teeth-guard-like things that I put the whitening agent in and slept with for a couple of weeks. First the top, then the lower. I have to tell you it was the best thing...I was so thrilled with it because they were still all MY teeth but just bright and white. Now there are so many products out to chose from. My sister-in-law used Crest white strips and Colgate whitening toothpaste and her teeth look great. This is the least invasive thing a person can do, now inexpensively, and the effects are great. People often comment on my white smile!  |

| Hi! I'm a dental assistant, so I'll try to help you out a bit.If you're unhappy with the gap between your teeth, they can easily be fixed with bonding. Bonding is a less expensive way to change the shape of your teeth as well. The whitening products on the market are great...especially when paired with the extra whitening toothpastes. Porcelain veneers are really expensive! If done correctly, they should last a lifetime. If they don't it usually means it wasn't done correctly or maybe the tooth wasn't healthy. Anyway, get a consult with a reliable dentist. Be careful...some of them will try to talk you into the most expensive procedure first. Tell the Dr. that you would like it as low cost as possible. |
