i am desperate to help my 14yrs daughter to get rid of her mild acne which is becoming worse day by day.
bought her all the stuff that i read from various forum but doesn't seem to help. could it be that products on the market too harsh for young skins? if so pls recommend suitable ones? so sad to see my princess becoming a ugly duckling. |

Is the problem really serious?
If not, I think it is better to keep simple skincare routine (cleansing & moisturizing). Most of acne products are irritated. I suffered acne problems few years ago and I found most claimed for acne skin were not good and irrtated. Then, my skin turned worse than before using.
Using mild cleanser and moisturizer is better. I used Aquanil cleanser at that time. It is really mild cleanser although it is not for acne skin particularly, at least it won't irritate or dry skin up. If her skin condition is oily, it is better to apply moisturizing lotion/gel.
Remind her to apply sunblock everyday. I didn't know that when I was young so I got a lot of acne marks and can't fade out now. |

If it is really getting bad I'd take her to derm.
But first try using a gentle cleanser(something like cerave, cetaphil ...), BHA and 2.5% BP (paula'c hoice has an excellent bha and for bp either paula's choice or neutrogena). |

I don't have a specific product recommendation, but I do applaud you for taking your daughter's acne seriously. I suffered from acne between the ages of 17 and 21. It was awful, affected my self-confidence and I thought about it constantly. When I was 32 (I'm 41 now) my acne 'came back' - probably as bad as when I was younger. I immediately went to a dermatologist, who put me on Accutane and it was literally gone in 6 weeks. Now I can only regret having suffered for 5 years when I was young - when a solution (although not appropriate for everyone) was available. Acne affected my confidence, self-esteem, and general attitude in a very negative way, and it wasn't necessary. I'm not necessarily advocating Accutane, particularly not for mild acne - but I am saying: deal with the acne now so that your daughter can avoid both the physical and psychological effects.
I've just started the Obagi Nu-Derm system to deal with fine lines/wrinkles and hyperpigmentation due to acne and too much skin exposure when I was young. I see that Obagi also has an anti-acne program called Clenziderm M.D. - I haven't read any reviews, but you might want to check that out. |

I had acne when I was fourteen and I did not take andy measure to cure and heal it...
I think you could try from mild and safe stuff since the young skin has its own ability to recover. Irritation will never be good.
Ingredients like Salicid acid, AHA, retinol, sulfur... will be helpful.
The products I highly recommend is La Roche Posay Effclar acne treatment, which contains 1.5% salicid acid.
good luck! |

I recently tried a product called Buzz on Acne and it has worked very well for me. If you do a search, there's a thread about it here on EDS. While that thread seems to have a lot of extreme opinions, I do think the colloidal silver helps in controlling break outs. I'm not sure if it's safe to use for such young skin, but you can easily email the company and find out. They are very quick and helpful in replying to enquiries.
Another silver colloid product that worked was COR soap, but I found that too drying.
Good luck with your daughter! |
