Apart from the hideous blackheads on my nose, my skin is very healthy. For the past 8 years, I've tried everything I could think of to get rid of the clogged pores on my nose (retinoids, clay masks, BHA, AHA, scrubbing, exfoliating with a brush, OCM...) but nothing worked.

I'm beginning to think that the reason I can't get rid of them, is just because they're part of my skin functioning normally.

In other words, have I just been trying to stop my skin from doing it's job for all these years?

I used to get blackheads on my nose.

My skin is a mix of oily/dry/normal. The nose area is oily.

I used to squeeze out the blackheads and then clean it with a strong astringent.

I started using AHA products and I no longer get blackheads on my nose. The pores are smaller.

You have to use it regularly over many months. I recommend at least 10% AHA. Neostrata is good. During the day use one that combines AHA with a good sunscreen. Neutrogena has one.

Good luck.

Mary11,
Are the AHA's going to dry my skin out? It is already miserable from BP use.

The best thing I have found so far to help with blackheads has been using Finacea Gel and using the Clarisonic, it hasn't completely got rid of them, but they're so much better than they once were.

Traditionally its BP that works on blackheads. It may be the formulation. Heres one that will work. It did for me anyway. Its Paula's Choice 2% BHA in the liquid form. You have to be consistent though. Twice daily on those pesky blackheads for at least 2-3 weeks.

I used to have blackheads on my nose, but rarely get them anymore. I use AHA's BHA (a 2% sylasitic -sorry I can spell, pad - Stridex) and Retin A. I also wash with a cleanser that has beads and tree treee oil in it, Isomers Austrian Harvest Cleaner. You can check with a derm about this as well. Good luck

I used to have them. I didn't use any strong products to get rid of them.

All I did was to use the pore pack, then the put a toner after that. My blackheads have reduced tremendously!

I never get blackheads anymore. I haven't had one in at least 5 years. Renova and the occasional use of an AHA product has helped mine go away and stay away. My pores are no very small and not an issue anymore either.

After you try the BHA, AHA's etc. and if they don't work, get Differin. It's an RX but you can get it on the internet without a script.

I started using Obagi vit c serum 10% in December 2008 and noticed that blackheads became increasingly apparent, not just on my nose but some on my cheeks.
I asked my beauty therapist who told me this was as a result of the suncream I was using. I have started using the Obagi suncream in the past two weeks. The blackheads are clearing slightly but the jury's out. Has anyone had this reaction with vit c serums.

I find a monthly microderm is the most effective way of keeping my blackheads at bay.

[i]Mary11,

I use Neostrata cream and it does not dry my skin.

Try neutrogena AHA lotion with suncreen during the day and Neostrata 10% cream without sunscreen at night.

I had very stubborn blackheads on my nose and they are gone. Very Happy

I can totally relate to that problem! My blackheads also seem to be the most stubborn there ever were, and I could only get rid of them while on the same time destroying the otherwise healthy skin around them - which I don't want to do. They are really deep in the skin, too, so I guess it is part of the problem I have with increased cell turnover. That also keeps me from using AHAs and BHAs any more, because in the long run, they seem to make the problem worse, since my skin feels pushed to produce new cells faster and faster.

Finacea Gel contains 15% azelaic acid.

I've been using it too and I must admit, it has reduced the size of my blackheads. But they're still there though.

i second azealic acid and differin, however, users should also consider the skin barrier as they can easily irritate the skin if used too aggressively along with manual exfoliation and other acids.

my skin is tending towards a dryer nature now, and so i rarely get black heads like when i had much oilier skin. however, if i use C serums they enhance the appearance of black heads severely.

Where can you purchase it? Also, what brand do you use?

Thanks!

My very cheap solution to getting rid of future blackheads:
I use the pretika dermasonic brush (a $55 Clarisonic knock off) on my nose everyday when cleansing my face. The cleanser I use is the cheap cetaphil cleanser mixed with aspirin (like a scrub). No more blackheads since then. Mind you, the blackheads that were already in my nose before this cetaphil/aspirin regimen had to be removed by an aesthetician.

I purchased my Finacea Gel originally from an online Australian Pharmacy and then when I had run out I just took the tube to my doctors and he wrote me a repeat prescription for it. I have tried Differin and it didn't help my skin, though I know others have had results with that.
The Finacea hasn't completely got rid of the blackheads but it has helped more than anything I've previously used. Also I find the Bee Yummy Face Mask really good aswell.

The best thing for me is the PSF pumpkin peel and the homemade aspirin masks. After I use them my pores are really clear. I also (when I remember) will press a piece of tissue on my nose and squeeze the oil from my pores. I also use jojoba oil as a moisturizer and I'm not sure if that helps decrease the oil production of my skin, but my blackheads area almost non-existant now. Well, at least until last week when I switched the jojoba to emu. Guess it doesn't agree with me because I'm noticing bumps and blackheads in the areas I'm using it. Back to the jojoba oil.

Hemp oil cleared my blackheads out completely, here is a link to my review.
