Guys

Would appreciate some advice on this issue. I have been trying Retin A for these but don't like it at all it makes my skin very very dry (and its normally oily) and has made everything look worse. I also have acne scarring around this area. Any thoughts on what might work?

Zelda,

I can relate and would love to know what will help with those dreaded mouth to chin lines!!

As for the Retin A...not sure how long you have been using it but with Retin A use there comes an adjustment period. I have oily skin as well and it takes a few weeks to get the skin accustomed to Retin A... I would suggest using it only every other day or every third day til your skin can tolerate it more and get past the red/dry stage. I can't tell you how many times I went off and on it b/c of the irritation but once I gave it a shot and was consistent with it, I was able to use it daily.

As for acne scarring, perhaps someone can offer their advice about dermarolling if you haven't tried that...supposed to be good for scars.. I have never tried that yet.

Hope that helps

Are you talking about lines or sagging?

It might be both some sag that gives a line look. This area is a challenge and facial exercises have really helped me deal with that. I use retin-a but it doesn't really deal with the deeper sag and folds for me.I have also found the Stop and Lightstim firm things up well but the most bang for your buck is facial exercise.

Toby is there someone's facial exercises you can recommend? I'm so overwhelmed by all the choices out there. I do prefer being able to see the exercises performed via a dvd over just reading about them in a book... I have a hard time visualizing what I am supposed to do! TIA

Skindeep,
To say which program would be best for you would truly open up a can of worms Laughing There are threads discussing each program throughly and lots of heated debates. It really depends on all the issues you have now, how much time you want to put in it and if you need trainers to move you along with progress. I will say that to deal with puppet lines effectively I have never found any device that could beat facial exercises. I started Flexeffect in 2007 and did successfully deal with puppet lines(marionette lines) I have used Ageless and it pumps the cheeks up nicely, and I have also used Carole Maggio's that deal nicely with lower face. Flexeffect is the most comprehensive and have a forum with trainers, Ageless has a forum, and Carole's are pretty simple and quick to learn and no forum. Many of us like something from all of them. When I started out I needed the big guns....forum for encouragement, trainers to tweak the specific needs I had...I wouldn't have made it without the support that Flexeffect offered. I hope this helps. Wink

Thanks so much for your advice, Toby. I have been reading the specific threads about each facial exercise program and basically was leaning towards Flex effect only b/c it seems like they have the most comprehensive program on Dvds which I definitely need.

As far as the forum goes, I am assuming you get that info once you purchase the item?

Thanks again!

Flexeffect has three forums, one is general(don't need to have the program to participate) and only requires registering to come on, the other two are training forums that you have privilege to when the program is purchased. The trainers help on all forums.

I think the creases are due to the acne scaring so maybe I will try the dermarolling.

Hello All,
I'm down in the dumps over "puppet mouth". I'm 49 1/2 and just about reaching menopause, and within the last year my facial skin has noticeably changed in that it has thinned and dropped. Skin texture is good, but the sagging is depressing! I look like I'm melting and everything is dripping down. I'm sick of people saying I look "sad" or "tired". I can't help it - this is how I look now!

I've been doing Ageless for 2 solid months faithfully, and a few other exercises I found here and there combined with that. (I have Carolyn's facial fitness also, but doesn't seem to be much resistance to that one so I have my doubts about it). I have no cheeks to speak of anymore. But the most depressing part is the puppet lines running from my mouth to the chin. Sagginess and jowls there.

I eat healthy, sleep good, exercise regularly and stay hydrated. I am the right weight for my height (5'4", 116 lbs). All the aunts on my mother's side including my mom have this puppet mouth thing, so I know genetics is playing a role.

I'm going to be starting "let's make collagen" and also DIY C with ferulic acid as soon as stuff arrives in the mail. Can you ladies tell me if I"m on the right path? Things seem to be getting worse instead of improving. I'm self conscious about it and getting very down in the dumps. I look tired and worn out, and I don't feel that way on the inside. Please help!

Kandi - Have you lost weight in the last year?....
At nearly 50, i would consider fillers to help you out. Facial exercises could help but will likely take many months to build the muscle required.

Hi,
No, I have not lost weight. I've been the same weight all my life. I appreciate the suggestion about fillers, but I think I'd rather try something more 'natural' and less expensive for now, as my budget is a bit tight. Plus, my body reacts badly to any invasive procedure - I form scars and keloids easily. (forgot to mention that earlier, sorry!). I am white, don't know if that matters. I would really like to know specific exercises to add to my routine that might target this area. I know building the cheeks will lift this area, but my cheeks don't seem to be building at all! Flat as a pancake. Embarassed

I would look at incorporating more protein into your diet ..... muscles will never grow without it. Try a whey protein supplement to compliment the facial exercises?

Kandi,
I understand your frustration about the puppet lines(marionette lines). That area has been my struggle as well. I have tried many of the facial programs and can see positives with several but for lower face and especially marionette lines Flexeffect third edition is the ONLY one that got rid of my problem and it cleared up within six weeks.I workout 12 min. a day five days a week and I am very pleased with my results. I use all kinds of devices but NOTHING has lifted my face the way facial exercises have. Give Flexeffect a try....Ageless is good for making the cheeks pop but in my case the lower face did not lift at all. Crying or Very sad I found I needed the build and pumping out of the lower face to get rid of the marionette issues. Dancing

Hi Toby,

I have the third edition, but have to be careful with the lower face as I have TMJ. Can I ask which exercises have produced these results for you? also at what rep's?

many thanks

I have some TMJ as well but now that I have the third edition I can clearly see all the exercises demonstrated and it keeps me from over doing that might have gotten my TMJ aggravated.I build easily so I only do three reps per exercise. I think all the exercises are working together to lift so I don't focus on any one group at this point. If I find that I am not getting the results I want I ask the trainers for help showing them pictures and giving information about what I am doing and providing information about my diet and rest regime. Right now everything seems balanced and I am keeping the reps low so I don't over build.

thanks Toby,

I think low reps may be the key here. I may attempt some of them, but only doing a couple of reps each time,

I personally find only two exercises on the 3rd ed. FE that I would be careful about regarding TMJ - I'm not a fan of #18 nor #26 but I admit I do these most of the time when I do the 12 minutes but I do them My own waywhich is more protective of my TMJ and I really don't have many TMJ issues but do not want any either.
Aside from this - I am totally with Toby - love FE (love it!) and I also really like te 8 minute CM DVD for a quick and nice lift. It's rather magical for me. But I recommend FE for the long term deal - yep - love FE!

Hi girls,

I'm just thinking with these nose to mouth lines and their sometimes accompanying pouches, - is it mostly caused by a drooping cheek, - or can the formation of a 'jowl' also actually pull the cheek down?

thanks

Ha! This reminds me of the saying which came first...the chicken or the egg! Laughing And I don't know, but that would be a good question for one of the trainers at Flexeffect to help us with. I just know that marionettes are extremely aging!! Shock With most Facial exercise programs I did, they did a nice job of toning and some lifting but when it came to marionettes and jowl issues mine seemed to be caused by skin sag and some fat loss in my face. Once I got into Flexeffect it built out and up the lower face so it took up the slack of the sag. I also noticed my whole face got nice and firm. I will be very honest when I say that it looks like I have had fillers or some type of nice tuck Wink. I needed the additional build that flexeffect gives and now instead of running from the mirrors in the dept. stores I am spending time looking in them rather amazed at the change I see. What a nice change for sure! Dancing

Wow, sounds like I need to start putting a little money aside each week till I can purchase FE. Too bad I just spent money less than a month ago on buying another program that was cheaper. Sad

Does FE every have "specials" when it goes on sale?

Thanks everyone for their input. Gives me hope... I think I should look into the protein as well. I'm on a gluten free diet for other health reasons, maybe that has some effect too?. I think the severe hormone fluctuation of going through menopause is the root cause of my facial skin woes. Everything was good until that struck! I am not able to do HRT either due to other health issues.
