Many of us are aware that both Retin A and Glycolic Acid make our skin look better! I used to use Neostrata Glycolic Acid 10% daily. I have switched to Retin-A for its collagen/elastin increasing effects. However, I miss Glycolic Acid (it makes my skin look so awesome too). I would never use both at the same time since it would be extremely irritating. But I am considering other option, like maybe a Glycolic wash, Glycolic pads, or one day retin A / One day Glycolic Acid cream... etc. Do you use both Retin A and Glycolic Acid? If so, can you tell me your routine? Im trying to avoid a terrible reaction since both ingredients can be irritating to some extent.

Hi
I don't use these products together, but isn't Obagi based on the combination of them?

Yeah it is. But it has hydroquinone too, which prevents hyperpigmentation. I am on obagi now, but when im done im gonna want to discontinue use of hydroquinone. I know some don't recomment that, but its an individual choice. I am wondering if one can use glycolic acid/ retin A together without doing more harm than good.

I have heard that some people do one day Retin A/one day Glycolic 10%. Has anyone done this?

If your skin is not that sensitive, why don't you use both on the same day, but not at the same time.

Both will make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. My doctor told me to use Retinal at night.
I've only used glycolic when I was going through a weird hormonal skin break out. I found using enzyme mask or scrubs help improve my skin tone when it was needed.

I 2nd Skincare's recommendation. If your skin is not sensitive, why not use the glycolic acid product in the morning, and RA at night?

I thought that glycolic could increase sun sensitivity. My only concern would be that id get sun damage that way. I guess if i wear a really good sunscreen on top it should be OK! Does anyone use any non oily glycolic acid lotions or creams they can recommend? thx

You could try it if you don't have sensitive skin. I use both a BHA and Retin A. Retin A at night and the BHA in the AM.

I had some issues when I first started to do this. I also needed to have some bad skin go thru some serious remodeling and had to live thru some ugly stages before I got to some nice looking skin. I do not flake or peel at all now (but did do some of that originally).

I also use copper peptides and they help with the remodeling a lot. I added those to the other 2 after I had used them for about 8 months. I saw major improvements when I started the CPs after the BHA & Retin A.

Long story short - try introducing them by alternating days and then go to one in the PM and one in the AM after your skin gets use to both of them.

Sounds like the CP would help calm things down. Can u recommend a good low strength CP? I am concerned about what ive heard about CPs causing problems with skin texture on this forum. I have read some VERY positive things but also some VERY negative things about CPs, so i'd want to start slow so my skin adapts.

skincare, is there a particular enzyme mask you would recommend?

Hi!

I am using Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel about once a week and sometimes I use it up to 4 days a week. When I go camping, sometimes it is a long walk to get fresh water and I normally put several coats of sunblock on throughout the day. So I use this mask to help melt all that sunblock off.

Another enzyme scrub I use is Cellcosmet.

BTW, other EDS members love PSF Pumpkin Enzyme scrub/mask.

which CP to get would depend on your skin type. for sensitive skin - try the Super GHK (serum or cream)
for dry or normal skin - go for the creams and for oily types - the serums are better

I started w/ the CP Serum (oily). dryer types could start w/ the P & R Classic or w/ Retinol. I also diluted the CP Serum since these CPs are very strong and moving too fast w/ them can cause irritation. Dilute w/ a ratio of 4:1 H2O to CP to start and add more CP as the time goes on. When you get to full strength CP, use it like that for a while and then increase in strength if you like.

bethany,

Have you tried the Obagi C-system? What is the result difference comparing with nu-derm?

As I am considering to stop CP serum and go back to Obagi.

thanks!

Critic, I have only tried the Obagi C-Rx Clarifying Serum which I am using in combination with Vivite Vibrance from Allergan (it blocks pigmentation in a totally different way than HQ). You can see pics of my early results here:

Some people have great results on CPs (like Foxe), but I personally believe that they do not replace the need for Retin A and a Vit C product. If you do some research, you will find tons of independent studies regarding the success of Retin A and Vit A on repairing sundamage, lessing wrinkles, building collagen and elastin, etc. Independent studies on CPs are not plentiful, and the majority are about wound healing...not anti-aging.

And yes, I have tried CPs...I have a whole refrigerator full of them that I stopped using after they gave me some severe lines under my eyes. Sad

I would recommend the ZO Skin Health Products by Dr. Obagi (more for maintenance) or Obagi Nu Derm (if you have pigmentation issues).

Hey Amonavis....

I get on/off mild acne and the last tiem I had it I was recommended these AWESOME product by Avene which just happens to have Glycolic acid combined with their version of Retin A called retinaldyhyde (more gentle but as effective.) first of all my skin looked red and sore but after a few weeks my skin REALLY started to clear up and now it looks GREAT.

But.....get this.....It eats out those wrinkles too. I can't to without it now. It's called acnedial by avene and although it is for spots...I now use it pre-period to perk my skin up, reduce pores and spots.

amonavis I have used Glycolic 20% pre-soaked pads in the morning and retin-A at night. It does sting like crazy when you first start Shock

Imperative. But the results are awesome as far as smoothness and clarity. I've been doing this kind of thing for years. AHAs during the day and Retin A most nights.
