Hi all,

I'm not sure if someone else has mentioned this technique before. But I found out about deep breathing technique online a while ago for my mom's health issue. My mom who is bed-ridden and can't doing any forms of exercises in the bed. I convinced she to try deep breathing for a few month. Amazing it helps her to reduce her huge tummy in a short period of time as well as relieve her sinus problems. Her quality of sleep also gets better which certainly makes the skin look great! From my own experience, I think my quality of sleep has also improved as a result and I will love to reduce some inches from my tummy as well.

Ok, there 3 different forms of breathing techniques I found very useful and easy to learn. READY?

1.alternative Nostril breathing exeerces
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZ15EB5YdpQ

2.Here is a description of the basic breath technique:

* Lean forward slightly and rest your hands on a tabletop or the back of a chair. This position lets you tighten the abdomen far harder. The original Body Flex has you put your hands on your knees like a baseball catcher, but I find the hands-on-table position easier and more comfortable.

* Purse your lips and exhale, blowing out all your air. When you think your lungs are empty, blow a little more! The technique depends on really emptying your lungs.

* Inhale sharply through your nose. Try to take in all the air in the room in one breath!

* Fold your lips and explosively exhale, making a sound like "PAH!" Empty your lungs completely.

* With your lungs empty, close the back of your throat so no air can get in. Now use the vacuum you have created in your torso to suck your abdomen in and up as hard as you can. After you've done this every day for a week or two, you will be dazzled by just how hard you can contract your abdominal muscles! Hold this for about eight seconds -- just until the urge to breathe is hitting you. Open your throat and let the air flow in naturally.

That's one basic breath. From here, you start again with pursing your lips and blowing.

3. ~COPIED FROM THE OTHER FORUM~
origionally posted by "Rosemom"

The "Skipped Breath" is a technique used to help jumpstart losses for those not seeing results with the "BF" breath. Anyone can use it, but since I provided my routine free, I would say, if you have purchased another program on the market and it has been working for you then only use this one to break your plateau, because you will reach one.

Exhale the stale air
Deeply inhale through your nose
Hold for a count of 5
Pah
Tuck tummy as tight as you can
Exercise position
Hold for a count of 8 to 10

This is where it differs from "BF". Instead of the last inhale through your mouth, which is better known as a "gasp", you will release the position and deeply inhale through your nose to start your next rep in the set. The only time you will inhale/gasp is at the end of a set when you are changing to a completely different position. You will also notice during the set that you don't do the first exhale during the routine. You will do it to start a new position set, but not within a set. So let's try it again.

Exhale the stale air
Deep inhale through your nose
Hold for a count of 5
Pah
Tuck tummy as tight as you can
Exercise position
Hold for a count of 8 to 10

Release the position as you are doing the next breath.

Deeply inhale through your nose
Hold for a count of 5
Pah
Tuck tummy as tight as you can
Exercise position
Hold for a count of 8 to 10

Hope those would had experience with the breathing technique chime in and tell us how it works or you as
well.

Thanks for this Moonstone. I've heard of(and done a few times) the alternate nostril breathing technique, but not long enough to see any benefits unfortunately. Typical of me actually Rolling Eyes
I'd really love to get into doing these kinds of breathing techniques regularly...I'm sure I could fit them in throughout the day, I just need to remember.
You've reminded me that I want to do some so I'll do my best to get a routine happening.

Just sounds like the instructions for the Lifelift program to me (sorry but it does). The creator of Lifelift taught Grier her routine and Grier modified it into Bodyflex speeding up the exercises. I'd suggest people youtube Lifelift as there is the advert for that system on there.

Breathing is definitely something that anyone serious about aging should look at and try to improve, because as we age, we tend to breathe shallower etc.

Another breathing technique that I think works so well to energize & give an immediate improved appearance to the skin is called "breath of fire" from kundalini yoga. This is a rapid series of breaths from the diaphragm, sort of like a dog panting, except that the emphasis is placed on the exhale, while the inhale is small and automatic, like little sips. It's difficult to do at first, but doing it for just 3 minutes or so (with eyes closed & body relaxed in a seated yoga position) can really have an effect, I've noticed.

I'd appreciate your thoughts here. What do you make of that Lifelift, is it similar to what your talking about (as I'm a visual learner I'd much rather have a tape I can use).

I've just looked at it on the web, and it looks a bit too good to be true. I can't understand how just breathing can slim someone down.

I did some kundalini yoga for a short while, and the breathe of fire was very hard to do. But I've heard that when you do get it and practice it dilegently that it's very powerful.

I don't do breathing exercises on their own (although reading this thread has inspired me to do so) but I do incorporate deep breathing in the T-Tapp exercise programs I do daily.

Theresa Tapp says that deep breathing (the kind that you feel alll the way down to your rib area) stimulates the lymph system....so I'm wondering if this may be one of the reasons that breathing exercises, even on their own, can cause body slimming, since they stimulate lymph flow.

this is interesting...I did speak to a spiritual advisor at one point and he spoke about meditating through breathing exercises. I have to get back to doing that. I did seem to keep me in a better state of mind. I also have a DVD that has a stretching component and that has alot of breathing in that as well.
