After having some issues with my skin mostly noninflammatory acne (similar to KP lots of blocked pores and occasional pimples) I saw the dermatologist and was proscribed a few things. A topical antibiotic (Erythromycin), Isotrex - a topical form of isotretinoin (which is the same drug which is in roaccutane) it is similar to Retin A(tretinoin) but is supposed to be less irritating. I was also proscribed a Eucerin 10% Urea lotion to help treat my KP (chicken skin on my arms).
I used the Isotex for the first time last night and it does seem a little less irritating than the one time I used a strong Retin A gel which nearly took my face off! However it does feel a little warm and red and I know it will start to peel and dry out pretty soon. Do you think it would be helpful to put a little of the Eucerin cream over the top of my Isotrex to keep my skin from drying out too much?

I'm too sad at having to give up my all natural skin care but hopefully I'll be able to go back to mostly natural soon enough!

Hmm just in case it's not clear I'm talking about the skin on my face here although I also have a similar issue with the skin on my arms.

I would rather consult with the derm since I don't know the effect of mixing two meds together. If he clears it, then all should be good. Have you tried calling his office and asked about this?

Perhaps I'll do that. I'm in the UK and attended an NHS Dermatology clinic at a local hospital so I don't know if I can just call them up. Perhaps I'll ask my local pharmacist?

Definitely, at least they're trained to know about these things. Good luck.

I was going to tell you that I use avocado oil on top of retin-a every night without a problem when I saw your topic, but then saw that you are asking about different meds to put on top of each other, so I don't feel qualified to tackle that.

You could try adding a few drops of Jojoba oil to your daily cleanser to help soothe your irritated skin.

When I use Retin A I will usually wait an hour or two then apply a thin layer of squalane or emu oil - this helps my skin from getting overly dry.

I would also suggest to use jojoba oil as cleanser and moisturiser.

Eucerin cream is good for healthy and not irritated skin, to be on the safe side you should consult a dermatologist before you use it.

Pandora. Please take note of Fairlady's and Lara1's suggestions. You don't want to overload your skin with harsh products right now. I sure hope you are wearing an spf during the day. HTHs!
