I use MAC studiofix and it looked pretty good on me before. I need a high coverage makeup since I have a ruddy complexion and old acne pigmented scars. I've been on tretinoin for I think about a month now. No peeling and not really any irritation, but my face skin is very thin and I have to be very careful exfoliating now. My skin is much more smooth and silky, but my foundation has NO staying power now, it just slides off as if I had super oily skin, but I don't. Has anyone had to deal with this? I don't want to start feverishly looking for a new foundation yet since I know there are more changes to come, but I do think this new problem is probably here to stay as long as I am on tretinoin, so maybe I should start thinking about switching makeup. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this? I tried a few new primers and also ditched primer altogether since it seems to make this problem worse, and last night even put makeup on bare skin with no moisturizer or primer and it still came off of my face in about 4 hours. I don't know what to do now Sorry for all the retin a questions, but this stuff seems to be acting unusual on my skin for some reason. |

Hi, I am just about to go on retin a micro, which I understand is the same as tretanoin? I am going to do the Obagi nu derm system. Fingers crossed . When researching the Obagi online, I came across a woman who said that the MAC prep + primer spf50 was great, her make up stayed on and it wasn't heavy or greasy. Don't know if you have tried it yet? |

I don't know what seems to be your problem. I used Retin-A and I don't seem to have the same problem as you.... What I do is use a CREAM FOUNDATION on my face but I also make sure that I use a minimal amount just to cover. Then pat with a facial tissue before I apply the pressed powder. This let it stay longer than liquid foundation. I don't like liquid foundation because it never stays in place... Why not try it and let me know what you think.

hey jade...I have thought of this (cream), but I must admit I am scared to death. I am purging right now, it's depressing looking in the mirror. Weird thing is, my acne is shallow instead of cystic now and sloughs off leaving something more like a weepy wound than a pimple, it's really gross looking...creams have always broken me out BAD, but cystic acne. I don't know that they would now that my skin is so different, but man I don't know if I have the balls to find out my face looks so bad already. Maybe I should take the dive ...more acne might not even make a difference right now
What cream do you use? I might feel better about trying a cream or souffle if it was high quality ingredients, but I haven't got much extra money to spend on this venture. uuugh, maybe this in between period will end soon so I can stop slathering my entire face with concealer. |

Perhaps try using a powder foundation from BE or Laura Geller. I have stopped using a face primer just an eyeshadow primer. I have used Retin-A for a few months now and I find that I am using less makeup. |

I have a product I am very pleased with. It is called Maybelline Pure Makeup and is available at your local pharmacy. I can already tell you it will not give you the full coverage you are looking for, because it does not totally cover my rosacea redness, nor my pigmentation spots, nor my occasional acne. But my mineral makeup looked cakey on me (and I sampled many different lines). Thicker, creamier foundation kind of balls up on me. Maybe this is what you mean by your foundation falling off. Anyhow my skin looks much better, healthier, and very natural when I wear it. The first ingredient listed is water.
It is worth a shot since it is only $5.99. I have tried much more expensive foundation and was not able to achieve this more balanced and natural look from them. it just blends right even if you only use it in 'places'. Maybe because of the heavy water content. |
