In this month's Allure magazine it says that purplish-red undereye circles can be treated with a V-beam laser. Has anyone ever heard of this or tried it, if so, how does it work? TIA |

Hi Jom,
I've never had a v-beam treatment but I talked to my plastic surgeon about it at my last visit. She told me that it only works on redness that is a vascular issue. I suppose you would have to determine if your under eye areas are a vascular problem. Sorry, I can't be more help! |

Hi Kims, thanks for the info! Probably the best way to know is to go in for a consultation. |

Sounds like a plan, Jom! I went to see my ps in regards to some red spots I've developed hoping the v-beam would be helpful. I thought at first they might be broken caps (which can be addressed with the v-beam) but, they're not. So, we're taking a "wait and see" approach. |

Please let us know the outcome of your consultation. I am considering getting v-beam for my dark circles too. Thanks. |

I have some pretty monstrous dark circles and was debating between VBeam and the Yag laser for quite some time. I got the Yag and thought I'd tell you about my results. FYI, I've been trying everything for about 10 years, from filler injections to IPL to creams, potions, you name it. Even accupuncture. Nothing has worked. My circles are caused by a combination of excess pigment, slight hollowing of the eyes, bone structure (no cheekbones) and extreme vascularization. VBeam, to be the most effective, requires several treatments and all of them require the 'purpuric' level, which means extremely deep bruising that lasts 3 weeks. I simply can't do that because of my work schedule. I chose the Yag and while I didn't have bruising, the swelling was pretty absurd and lasted about a week. I had some pretty heinous bags! Unfortunately, the results were not that impressive. There is an improvement - many of the capillaries are gone, and I'd say my circles are about 20% better. Enough to justify 300 dollars for the treatment? Well, that's better than the 1000s I've spent on creams that didn't do anything. At the same time, I need to do this several more times for it to work. You've got to be dedicated to the results to spend this kind of money and time! And to boot, it's very very painful, even with numbing cream. |

I was badly burned by a V-beam treatment to my face. It has taken me months to recover and the scars are permanent. Lasers/IPL are not the safe treatments they're touted as being. Even if you get THE best laser surgeon, the laser itself can malfunction and if it does, it's malfunctioning on your face/near your eyes! Also, know the results aren't permanent, so even if you do have a "positive" outcome, chances are you will have to risk it again in another year or so.
