What are your favorite make-up brushes?
InStyle magazine says Shu Uemura #18R is the best brush of 2009.
I'm thinking of getting one to try it out, but I'm sure there could possibly be better? |

I rarely use brushes but if I do, Stila's powder brush is very, very soft.
I heard good things about ecotools too, and they're much cheaper and more ethical. |

The Eco tools are quite nice for a drugstore brand. Very soft and don't shed all over (I hate that with brushes) My one beef is the soft cloth case to keep them in, really hard to keep the makeup off of them and they do tend to pick up dirt, especially if you take them with you for touch up. All in all a great value for the price.
I still love my more pricey brushes best! I guess I am a brush snob. Really with MMU a really great brush is crucial in my opinion.

I don't think that price is a guarantee of quality. I've found that my MAC brushes shed badly, whereas brushes that I've gotten from mineral makeup online companies like Alima and Lumiere have been much better in that regard. |

I have never been that much of a Mac fan. 99.9% of what I use is mineral makeup. the ones I listed above are all from MMU companies except Benefit I just like some of their specialty brushes. The Sephora MMU set cost me around $90 for 4 brushes and a great case with one side holding brushes, and an empty side for stashing take alongs, not that pricey, but not cheep compared to Ecotools. |

I'm all about Too Faced brushes, but those drugstore EcoTools are a close second at a really good price. |

It seems there a lot of good brands out there, and the thought is running through my pea sized brain that:
It depends on what you get your hands on and like
It also depends on what you are using each brush for
I see a few multi-taskers out there and yet I want one brush for each specific chore god knows I have enough
I use natural hair even have 2 sable sets (talk about soft) for minerals and have read they are best for powder (which I don't use no talc for me) and synthetic are best for creams so I use a few for concealer and lid primer
For anyone confused about my powder comment, MMU is micronized minerals not a powder.
OK MY THOUGHTS ON MAKEUP BRUSHES FOR THE DAY

for make up application i use many MAC brushes. its convenient just to pick them up along with some eyeshadow and all the other powders. i haven't noticed that much shedding.
for body brushes for oil application and body treatments i use the quo cheap brushes from SDMart. its easy and no fuss.
i picked up some brushes from the dollar store.. make up section and artist supply section, for body oil and body mask treatments. these are washed with each use. they seem to do the job and no shedding. good buys! |

I found a great tip in a makeup book about brushes. The author suggests that you hold the brush in one hand and dab it straight on the back of your other hand. If the brush bristles splay a mile, put it back because it means that the brush had poor control and that the makeup will end up everywhere but where you want it. I tried this on a few brushes at home and low and behold, the ones I didn't like gave way big time. The ones I do like maintain their shape and this is how I test all brushes despite cost and name. You'd be surprised with how many expensive brushes fail this test. |

We have a limited selection of Eco tools brushes but I did find some here.
I ordered online the retractable kabuki brush and great brush for $10.00.
I prefer synethetic brushes for mineral makeup foundtion, finishing powder and concealer. I also like synethic eyeliner brush for mineral liner. |
