I recently stopped wearing sunscreen everyday, and my skintone miraculously evened out. I had also had somewhat blotchy skin, and I think that daily suncreen use has made my face tan in certain areas where the sunscreen wore off throughout the day.
Has anyone else experienced this with using sunscreen? I no longer use it everyday and instead use a protective daily face cream (Jason's ultra comforting aloe vera cream). |

I use an SPF moisturizer every day (rain or shine) and have had no problems. You may need to continue to search for an SPF product that better matches your skin type. I suggest looking at chemical-free, mineral based products that use zinc oxide and/or titatium dioxide as the only active ingredients. |

I think similar to the poster above, that you need to find one more suitable for your skin type. I use one without fail - daily and never have any problems but it was trial and testing to find the best one for my skin - so you may want to experiment a bit with different sunscreens recommended for your skin type. |

I've never had a problem either. You are only asking for problems down the road by not wearing it. Try one of those Neutrogena "dry" type sunscreens. They are very light on the skin and leave it matte looking. |

May be you should try a different products to find the one that your skin will tolerate. It is very important to protect your skin from sun. Also, you have to take it off at the end of the day, otherwise it may cause skin problems. As for uneven tanning while wearing sunblock, I never had this problem. |

I agree with all the posters above, that it is likely that your sunscreen has failed you, hence the splotchy skin. What were you using? |

I have to agree with everybody you need a sun screen not just for beauty but for your HEALTH, it is really important to prevent skin cancer, to this day if I see the 20 year old (only kid still at home) heading to the beach I still remind her!

Sunscreen is a must to wear daily. Where I live we only see the sun for about 6 hours a day for about 3 months in the winter and I still wear it daily because those six hours reflecting off the snow can cause huge problems. |

Hi,
Have you considered a mineral foundation as an alternative? It acts as a physical sunscreen instead of a chemical one. You should not have any skin reaction issues with mineral makeup. I live in sub-tropic where the sun shines over 360 days a year, and I use this for my face daily.

been using sun screen on my face for years. seems ok. could be the type of sunscreen you're using, might be too much for your skin. i used to use the one by clarins, and i have combination skin, and it made my face oil up so much, i changed to skII, now i use a different brand |

I agree with most people here. I use sunscreen everyday. It happened to me once in a while when I use one that is not suitable for my skin. Perhaps, searching another one that is better for your skin is one choice or try the mineral ones like bareMinerals. |

I know Sunscreen is a must for everyday. However I don't wear it daily especially when I only see the sun for few hours a day and I don't like many layers on my face. Perhaps I should consider wearing it everyday no matter what. |

I agree with everyone. Sunscreen is a must and the best thing you can do to prevent wrinkles! I have been told that by many doctors, dermatologists and aestheticians I've seen. I have really sensitive skin, and I went through a few before I found one I like. I use Skin Ceuticals Sport UV Defense SPF 45. I know this may sound crazy and off topic, but I put it on, wait 25 minutes, and then brush on my Glo Minerals loose powder, and my makeup looks much better than it ever has. I like using the Skin Ceuticals sunscreen as a base more than the primers I've tried (even Smash Box Photo Finish). Trying to put liquid foundation over it didn't work as well. |

How about:
Colorescience Face Sunforgettable Brush SPF 30 (0.23 oz.) $50.00 USD Convert
Colorescience Sunforgettable (SPF 30) Long lasting powder sun protection for everyone. SPF 30 brush on sunscreen will not burn eyes or rub off on clothes.
Right here on EDS, I have not used it myself (MMU DOES IT FOR ME) but have seen rave reviews and you can use it over makeup instead of under and no worries of it being oily sticky ect.
Just another thought.

It is possible you used a sunscreen with an sunblocking ingredient (avobenzone) that breaks down with exposure to UV light. Or that your sunscreen was not sufficiently waterproof to withstand the climate in your country or you did not apply enough of the sunscreen.
If you tell us which sunscreen you were using, we might be able to comment further on it. |

Agree. I am also pursuing to find out a good SPF product, but still not find a one match my skin type yet. |

An FYI for those of you wearing SS 24/7 (more like 12/7).
I visited w/ my OB/GYNE yesterday and we discussed SS and its relation to an increase in osteoporosis. He mentioned that there's been an increase in the big O since the increased use of SS. He was advising me to be taking calcium supplements WITH vit D since the vit D is needed for the bones.
It is also advised to NOT wear SS (AND get some sun exposure) for 10 minutes per day. That is all your body needs to produce the Vit D it needs as vit D is not stored in our bodies. You may get your sun exposure from your arms and legs, but during the cooler months when many of us are covered up, your facial skin may be the only one to be exposed to the sun. I do not wear SS on my face all year long. I only use it in the summer months. And I will get some sun exposure w/out it (go to the mailbox, water some plants, etc.)
If you can't get that sun exposure needed for Vit D, then by all means get it thru a supplement. Personally, I just don't find the need to use a SS constantly, as I prefer to not have all that (different ingredients) on my skin all the time. |

Foxe,
I agree with you on the small amount of sun exposure, I was also told by a Dr. who is into the holistic method, that coconut oil is good for sun exposure. I use the MMU as a physical barrier on face only. I do however live in sub-tropics so sun shines over 360 days per year (too much) so no covers on arms ect.
I have to use something as just everyday exposure to and from car, house, store ect. is a lot of sun here.

One problem might be that you're not removing it completely and so the next day's application isn't really reaching your skin. With physical sunblocks, I have to use a Salux cloth every night to get it all off. I live in a harsh climate with terrible sun exposure, so I would know immediately if my sunscreen was failing. |

Are you using a MMU? Mine comes really easily with OCM or plain Castile soap. I am just curious what you use that is that difficult to remove?

No, I do not use mineral makeup. It is my physical sunblock that is so hard to remove. I can't remove and re-apply all makeup and sunscreen every 3 hours as needed with chemical sunblocks, and so I have found a good physical sunblock that I apply once a day. Unless I am at the beach, in the water or on a boat, it is adequate to keep me tan- and burn-free year-round. But it is very pore-clogging unless I use the Salux. |
