I am posting a new topic, as I've been on the other facial exercise forums and this seems to be something that has not yet been discussed. I began CM Facercise, as well as some others I incorporated, not particularly because I wanted to look "young" or had aging problems, but for a painful, fluid filled pouch under one eye due to severe allergies, TMJ, and extreme tension and pain in my facial muscles due to fibromyalgia. The benefits I have noticed really have nothing to do with whether or not I really care about whether my elastin and collagen will snap back, grow, whatever (that seems to be the issue with the "aging" discussion), but with the relief of pain and tension in my face and neck--the same way exercise has helped strengthen my body and increase my endurance. Due to the fibromyalgia, it was becoming painful even to smile and speak. Any movement or touch increased the pain. Facial exercise helped me tremendously there--I had to "push it" at first--just like I had to push the strength training and the aerobics. Facercise was the gentlest facial exercise I could find outside of Yoga for Faces, which I have also ordered. So, I guess I was wondering: did anyone else start facial exercising for pain? My other choice was Botox, and I will NOT go with Botox, because I feel my muscles need to move to grow strong. An added benefit was increased firmness and "elasticity", but I'm not really "into" beauty routines (I'm really pretty happy with the way I look at 54) and was just wondering if anyone else started face exercising for fibromyalgia or neurological pain?

Hey Janice,

Not fibromyalgia or neurological pain... however, I used to have issues with my sinuses (pain, itching, congestion) in the fall. For the last two years, since I've been doing Flex Effect, I haven't experienced those symptoms at all. I've assumed that all the exercising has been cleaning or at least getting oxygen to my sinuses.

Interesting topic.

Hi Janice,
Glad you decided to start your own thread!! Smile
I don't have either of the issues you are dealing with, but I thought this was an interesting facet of facial exercise and what it could address. Hopefully, you'll get a lot of helpful responses. And possibly others in the same position as you will have the opportunity to look into fe as a viable form of treatment.
Options and shared experiences are valuable keys!

Will check back!

Thank you for your responses. It is a bit ironic...10 years ago, I would have been looking into it to turn back the clock. Now, the recent annoying wrinkle under my eye is due to a painful swelling that affects my vision, the TMJ has actually kept me from eating, and the overall facial tension sometimes makes it difficult to even laugh. Or smile. There was no choice, as I also developed MCS, so medical treatments, such as Botox, would be out of the question even if I was not "into" integrative medicine and a holistic lifestyle. After 10 weeks, I have found that regular facial exercise, or specific "target" ones when the "tightness" starts causing pain, has allowed the pain, swelling, and tension to ease--along with what my husband calls a more "relaxed" look to my countenance. Which probably makes me look younger...But, the "younger" part is really just relative now. It took me a bit to be brave enough to post the real reason I was experimenting with it, but after noticing such a difference, I just had to try to find out if anyone else had tried it for these reasons. I appreciate the encouragement! I am looking forward to some interesting postings.

Janice, as I PM'd you earlier... I'm not aware of any clients that have used our program for this. I have posted on our forum asking if anyone is willing to share such info.

I'll let you know what I find out... (well, if they post publicly, you can read it for yourself.) If I rec. a PM, I will share the info, but not the user.

That sounds great, Claudia. I'm sure there has to be more people out there who have thought about this or done it for relief. A google search would bring them to the EDS Skin Care Forum, so even if there are no members at this point, then that will be a tool, as well. That is how I found the forums and the threads about facial exercise. Thanks for your help!
