| Hello all, I am looking for a suggestion for a low pH cleanser to use with my Vitamin C seurm. It is my understanding that when you apply a C serum you must either wait 20-30 minutes after you cleanse to allow your skin to regain normal pH, OR you can use a cleanser with a pH of less than 5.5, as in the Obagi C Rx protocol. This would allow you to apply your C serum right away without the long wait. I might use the Obagi cleanser but it is kind of expensive. Does anyone use any other low pH cleansers that are less expensive? I checked the pH of my trusty Cetaphil but it is over 6 unfortunately. |

Boy Lacy! You're a step ahead of me - I was actually going to post that same exact list.
Another option for you is to get some pH testing strips and test out some cleansers yourself. You need to get strips that go low enuf in the pH measurement and keep in mind that they can only test liquids. |

I bought the Obagi C-RX Cleanser under the impression it would be around a PH 5 due to the vit c...well surprisingly (according to my PH strips) it's actually closest to PH 7...exactly the same as the nu derm cleanser.
Also, wonder if a low PH cleanser truly makes any difference considering when rinsing with tap water this will increase the PH anyway.
Perhaps the best thing is just use a PH balancing toner after cleansing.

Beat you to it foxe! LOL Actually, I have the web page bookmarked in my favourites and refer to it from time to time, so it was easy to pull-up and post here. As far as I know, it is the most comprehensive listing I have seen for cleanser pH on the internet. Not sure how often it is updated though.
As Dee suggested, you could use a toner to lower the pH of your skin after washing (assuming the toner itself is formulated to do this, and assuming the toner doesn't interfere with your C treatment). But it is one more step and one more product purchase. It might be best to just use a cleanser that is at the proper pH to begin with. |

well that sure is interesting Dee! It really makes you think about the products we use, and how effective they really are! I certainly won't be buying the Obagi cleanser. Thanks you for that information |

The toner thing wont work for me unfortunately because I am already rosacea prone and just using a C serum is already a stetch. I think if i add a toner to the mix ill be full on red. lol. I am glad I have that list though. it should help me find a good cleanser . |

I too, cannot use toners.
For myself, I have found that pH is very important. My skin is reactive and hard to cleanse and it's because my water is very alkaline. So...after I wash with a low pH cleanser (5.0) I have a bowl filled with tepid water and I add 1/8th of a tsp of ascorbic acid to this, making the pH of the water I rinse with 5.5. I find I need no moisturizer because my acid mantle hasn't been assaulted  |
