I'm going for my first IPL treatment next Tuesday. I'm doing it to reduce my Irish redness.
Any suggestions for after products? What has everyone else used? |

I really don't remember needing much aftercare. I would say maybe pure aloe for the first 24 hours or Vitamin E oil. Something moisturizing yet healing. In my case there really was no downtime or anything, just a bit of redness and some dark crusting where pigmented areas were brought to the service. I think the main thing is to use gentle products for a few days, including a mild face wash. Good luck....you'll love it. I'm trying to plan my next one now. ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

I have used Emu oil or Biafine both. I use ice for the swelling if I have any and other than that just rest and no exercise for a day. |

Hi Alien,
There isn't really any down time to speak of and you can pretty much use your regular products. One thing for sure: Don't forget your sunscreen!! Are you doing a series or just the one? Good Luck! |

Thanks all... I'm doing just the one for now because of low grade, but consistant redness.. |

I will also say I have had downtime from most of my IPL's, only two that yielded no results had no downtime AT ALL. But that said, immediate icing and Arnica has always been the difference as to the degree of swelling for me.
Arnica is by far the biggest help in reducing post-treatment swelling and/or bruising. I have not had any swelling and bruising that was intolerable since I started taking it before and after. My derm swears by it.
Lay off any aspirin, blood thinner, Vitamin E and Omegas as well. Alcohol can also act as a blood thinner so be careful with that. When I follow those guidelines, it always makes the difference in any treatment, peel, laser, surgery, fillers, etc. I am a huge bruiser, by just the lightest bump, so that's always my concern. You may not be, so this advice might not be needed.
I can have swelling and bruising, which for me can last several days. The degree to which I have it depends on the settings and my pre-treatment regime.
The last time they did not use numbing cream as they said they have found that it is better for redness reduction. It hurt way less than when they used to use the numbing cream and the results were great.
Settings, adjustments, regime and technicians will make the most difference in your outcome but IPL's have made great strides in the last 3 years towards yielding better results with fewer side effects.
Let us know how it goes and good luck. |

In addition to the above, I like Isomers Copper P and Isomers Anti-Redness - both serums. The manufacturer states that she designed the copper p at the request of one of her derms to give to his clients post procedure. |

OK, first IPL went well. A little sting upon application, but very little redness afterward. No swelling or bruising..
I applied Skin Biology's CPs afterwards and this morning... |

Glad to hear it went well. Did you try any Arnica before hand? Did you feel that you got the results you wanted? |

I didn't do anything extraordinary before the Tx.Except lay off Vit C and Omega 6 the day before.
There is a definate differance-less red and I think most of the broken caps are gone. Not that I was very ruddy or spidery- this is prevention. I just had a diffuse but consistent flush |
