Get your mind out of the gutter, pervs!! I'm talking about the long-awaited lip gloss from Nars', which compliments their infamous 'Orgasm' powder blush (for creme blush devotees, Nars' The Multiple in Portofino is the equivilent).
When I looked at the sample at Sephora, I wasn't impressed but some inner devil made me buy it anyway and I'm glad it did. In a word, this stuff is completely stunning; the most gorgeous color I've worn on my mouth in a long time!
This gloss is a golden pink with peachy undertones with just a tiny hint of shimmer (not enough to make it look "disco-ey"). On my mouth, though, Orgasm transforms into the perfect nude gloss which somehow makes your lips look as though they are glowing with good health. Radiant, I guess is what I'm trying to say. Somehow it serves to brighten up my entire face, even though I'm having one of those 'minimal makeup' days and didn't get much sleep last night...let me put it this way: several coworkers have complimented me today, asking me if I'm "in love" because I look like I'm glowing!!
This is my first Nars lip gloss so I don't know if this is their typical formulation or not, but it's very thick yet applies smoothly to the lips. I would have thought that I'd need to "wiggle" the wand around inside the tube in order to pick up enough product to coat my lips, but this proved *not* to be necessary, afterall. It's not too sticky or tacky yet it still has decent staying power (although this could be because I apply the new LipFusion plumping gloss first, which has the greatest adherence of any lip gloss that I have ever tried!!) -- I only need to touch up 2-3 per day (keep in mind that I'm drinking out of a straw all day and I also take a smoke break every 90 minutes or so, which usually means I have to re-apply my lip balm or gloss after each cig).
I don't detect any taste or fragrance to this gloss, either, which is a big plus because I don't care for heavily fragranced makeup. At $20USD, it's a bit dearly priced for a lip gloss, but I have a feeling I'm going to keep this in my makeup bag and use it *a lot*, especially on those days when I want that "Of-course-I'm-not-wearing-any-makeup-I'm-just naturally-beautiful" look!! Definitely another winner from Nars.

Oh, great Now I know I have to get Portofino as well! Have you tried the creme one? I like the powder NARS Orgasm blush but I found that it's too hard and brushes don't pick it up nicely.
The gloss does sound lovely. Do you know how it compares to GA lip shimmer in #11? The color sounds about the same and it's a fantastic gloss. I thought it was very similar to the Orgasm blush color.
I think I need to get one (yeah, like I need another one! ) and probably Portofino too. Agh! What are you doing to me Carrie!? |

Wow, Mabsy that was the same for me with the Orgasm in the powder. I found it didn't go on all that great, so I traded it away, although the color is pretty. Now I think I need to try the Portofino as I've been big time into creme blushes since I turned (gulp) 40.
Another GREAT creme blush that I've used lately Paula Dorf's creme blush in Playmate. It's a very sexy, sweet pinky color that I love. It gives you the flushed look that is going to be in big time this spring and summer. I read that Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) from Sex in the City wore it in the last season.
Portofino sounds like it would have the same effect, with just a little more peach in the mix. I will have to try it.
I've been eying the lipgloss for a while. Course Carrie makes EVERYTHING sound so good. She makes me broke, that girl! lol.

I have to admit, after a week or so of having the flu run thru our family I haven't had a lot of time to read the product reviews lately. BUT, my immediate reaction upon opening this thread was is this really something that will get a negative review (Yes, I guess my mind was in the gutter )
That being said, thanks so much for the review because it definately sounds like something I'd be interested in.

I think Nars makes some of the best and most flattering stuff out there. I've been using Orgasm blush forever. Barneys NY is almost always sold out of it. I couldn't wait for the Orgasm gloss and it was sooo worth waiting for. Flatters every imaginable skintone and sooooo sexy.
With the combination of the blush and the gloss, even on the most stressful days, you have that happy, healthy just ummmm...
Uhh (blushing) - you just look good. LOL |

Ah...the power of suggestion Carrie! I have been wanting to try the Nars Orgasm lip gloss since I heard about it. So last night at about 3 AM I ordered it from Sephora. Of course I had to have The Multiple in Portofino also (I've been using Malibu). And then I just HAD to have a bunch more stuff. Stop me before I shop again! Insomnia is costly! Joani |

Sounds like you and I were doing the same thing around the same time! Except, I managed to stop myself I can only order from Sephora via Amazon.com, and even then I still have to get my parcel sent to the US and then to Aus (through a third-party). I figured I'd just pick it up when I go over there, although this is really going to test my will power.... Mind you, I just ordered 6 pots of Stila All Over Shimmer Eye powders so I'm not sure if I should be even talking about will power.... |

Hum...six pots of Stila All Over Shimmer Eye powders Yep, It sounds like we both have that same amount of will power!!! I'm so bad. My hubby goes to sleep and I shop, shop, shop . How do you like the Stila products? I tried one of their blush/eye sets and the eye shadow had a bit too much sparkle for me, although it was nice for around the holidays. |

joani.sp - I'm a big fan of the Stila eye shadows (particularly if they come in cutsie palettes ) and the eye shadow mousses. I haven't tried the eye shimmers yet but I'll let you know when they arrive I quite like their blushes as well. I don't care for their lip glazes though |

Waaaahhhh! Mabsy – I’ve been lemming that lip simmer since I read your post about it from last spring, but I can’t find it anywhere. Based on your description (it’s the one that the SA recommended to you over the phone when you described your coloring to her, right? I think you said you never would have picked that color for yourself, but it turned out to be your fave and even your man complimented you on it???), though, I’m guessing that the Orgasm gloss would compliment the lip shimmer beautifully....if I can ever get my hands on the damn thing. Grrrr! |

I was looking at these glosses on line. So hard to pick a color. OK...I like a nice natural color. My natural lip color has kind of faded. My skin tone is light/med olive. On Makeup Alley some say the Orgasm is too light (blush) and doesn't show up. Do you think I would get enough color from the gloss? Love lip gloss rather than a lipstick.
Carrie, I know you must have told us several times but what skin tone are you? Sorry for not remembering. |

Winnie -
I’m a fair-skinned (although I wear “medium #3" in my Bare Escentuals foundation ), green-eyed redhead. My mom says I’ve got a “peaches-and-cream” complexion. The Orgasm gloss is the perfect “nude” for me. I have been experimenting with it, though, and I’ve found that I can change the effect of the Orgasm gloss by coloring my lips with a lipliner first (Prestige lipliner in ‘Angora,’ which is supposed to be a cheap dead-ringer for MAC’s ‘Spice’ lipliner) or by applying my Vincent Longo lip/cheek stain in “Liquid Kiss.” By applying either one of these before my Orgasm gloss, the color ends up looking more pinky gold (i.e.: the actual color of the Orgasm gloss in the tube). Either way, (applying it barelipped, or with the liner/stain under it) my lips still have that amazing “glow” to them which lights up my entire face. So I guess if the Orgasm gloss is too light for you, you can darken it by applying a liner or stain first! I especially love applying a lip stain before adding gloss because it not only adds pigment to your lips, but the stain also somehow increases the gloss’s staying power...I’ve tried a bunch of lip stains and my faves are the ones from Vincent Longo.
Anyway, hope this helps you decide!
Carrie
P.S. I don’t know if this will be helpful to you, but I’ve found that the Orgasm (powder) blush doesn’t show up on my skin, either. Hence the reason that I bought the cream version (Portofino) in the Multiple...now *that* shows up on my skin just fine...I don’t know what it is about the Portofino, but people always comment on how “pretty” I look whenever I’ve got it on! |

Thanks Carrie! What I would really like to do is find a store around here that has Nars. I will most likely have to go to Boston to do that. Nars products get wonderful reviews. Must try something. |

Well, unless you’ve got *a lot* of willpower, I wouldn’t suggest that you go to your Sephora store in Boston!! I have absolutely no control whenever I go to my Sephora. I walk in there to buy one thing, and I end up getting five...although, at least you can ask them for a sample of absolutely anything in the entire store!! |

Well, my skin is olive and I tried Orgasm blush at Sephora and also found it too light. I'm hoping the lip gloss is just brightening and can be layered and I can't wait to try the Portofino. My package should be here any day now . Wouldn't it be great if there was a Sephora on every corner, just like Starbucks?!!!
Back to blush, I use NARS powder blush in Torrid (and I just love the name). It is close to Orgasm in tone, but is deeper. It has a very light shimmer (more like a glow) and is quite lovely for deeper and more olive skin with yellow undertones. joani |

I wish you did not mention GA lip shimmer in #11.

That's the one! Still love it I hope it hasn't been discontinued! Kpka - if you do get it could you pls let me know (sorry to give you a lemming in the first place ), with Carrie having problems finding it I'm now worried that it's no longer available. |

Mabsy,
It is still available. I got it yesterday at Saks Fifth Avenue. Well, I did not get it myself. I send my other half to get it, since he is working right next to that store.
Mabsy, you did it again This is another fabulous product I bought based on your reviews!
What a nice color. It does look scary in the tube
I have brown eyes and brown hair and my skin is more on a pale side and I could never never use anything that is orange. Anytime I used orange colors on my skin then my skin would look orange itself. But this color, even though it is orange in the tube, looks so refreshing on my face. I like that it comes with little brush rather than with spongy like other glosses. The texture is very nice. It is not thick and non-sticky.
Thank you Mabsy girl |

When I said I was having a hard time finding the GA Lip Shimmer, I meant that I can’t find any retailers in Austin that carry GA’s cosmetic line. I always prefer buying stuff in the store to ordering it online for two reasons: 1) Dealing with returns if usually less of a hassle than having to take time to ship a dud-item back to the vendor, and 2) Shopping locally gives me instant gratfication – as I’ve said before, I want what I want when I want it! I think we have a branch of Saks 5th Ave here, so I’ll look there before I give in and order it online....
BTW, I have an additional question about this Lip Shimmer. Actually, I guess it is a general question about any peachy/coral/orange lip color. What color lip liner, if any, do you use with the LS #11? I actually *love* to wear peachy/coral/orange lip colors!! I know it sounds strange but when it’s very sheer, these colors can look absolutely stunning, though should be worn only in spring or summer. But I can’t find a suitable lip liner for these shades so I’m wondering if anyone knows of one that would work?
TIA,
Carrie |
