Hi all,
it has been a long time since I put a review up here (and boy I have a list and a half to put), but this one item I cannot put off reviewing.
Why? Because it is hands-down the most effective product I have ever used - any brand, any price, any type of skincare. I am not exaggerating (or being overly dramatic) to say it has changed my life.
I have actually had a small tube of it here since last Christmas and tried it as a hand cream, but was not fussed as it is quite thick, almost ointment-like. But, I kept it in my bag and would apply if I had some dry skin. It has a yellow color (natural from the Vit. B12) and a slightly medicinal smell (now I don’t notice it – and to be honest, for the performance, it is a small price to pay).
So, how did I suddenly become a rabid fan? Well, for quite some time (close to 5 months) I have suffered with terrible dermatitis behind my ears (yes, odd place to get it). Itching, weeping, the works. Thoroughly depressing; thoroughly embarrassing.
I tried everything - calamine lotion, ice-water soaked pads, Weleda calendula cream (soothed, but no healing), even a medicated honey cream meant for eczema and dermatitis. Some products (vitamin E oil) just gave me a terrible burning/itching reaction and I had to rush to wash them off.
I confess, I did everything short of visiting a doctor - but to be honest that was because I was so embarrassed by the state of my skin. I really felt quite dirty, like a kid whose mom tells him he will grow potatoes behind his ears there is so much dirt
My life has been quite miserable and added to this was the fact that two months ago I suddenly (like, literally overnight) developed about a dozen spots on the backs of my hands (that looked like keratosis) and soon after my hands started to become extremely irritated and sensitive. The backs were bright red, sensitive to creams, soap, touch - very similar to problems my mother has (and she is 82!). Even my husband noticed how painful and red my hands looked.
One week ago, out of pure desperation, I got out a tub of Yu-Be cream that I had bought for my dad (for rough skin). I applied this in a fairly thick layer behind my ears and also on the backs of my hands, twice a day.
Within 3 days the overall redness of my hands vanished and my ears stopped weeping.
Now, after 7 days, the skin on the back of my hands is back to being fair. The spots are not dry looking, though still there (there is only so much repair one can do to sun damage). As for my ears.. no weeping, no ‘blisters’, still a bit dry if I forget an application and still a bit itchy at times.
My husband is astounded by the healing and I am no longer embarrassed to visit a doc and find the root cause (when I get time!). I AM OVER THE MOON.
The EDS website only lists dry, rough skin as problems Yu-Be is best for, but I say to ANYONE who suffers from any kind of dermatitis, eczema or other skin irritation to try Yu-Be. The company's website also says it is good for chilblains, so maybe there is a connection in helping the skin irritations.
My final decision on Yu-Be: this is one item that will now be a permanent fixture in my medicine cabinet.
In fact, it actually makes for a wonderful all over body moisturizer, so negates spending money on other creams and oils. A little goes a long way and whilst when first applied it might feel a bit heavy (or 'sticky' if over applied); when you wake the next morning you will have the most beautiful soft skin. Even my feet and heels are beautiful and smooth now! Wonderful overnight foot and hand treatment (in Japan the company sells gloves and socks for this purpose)
For info on their full product range: http://www.yuskin.co.jp/outside/product.html
For EDS ordering: http://www.essentialdayspa.com/yube-skin-care.htm
The small tube of Yu-Be is only CA$15 on EDS and at that price it is worth dropping into your cart with your next EDS order. I sincerely doubt anyone would be disappointed!
I give this product SIX hearts out of a possible FIVE
PS. My product was actually called Yuskin-A (the Japanese name of Yu-Be) and here in Japan, there is also a Yuskin-S (for sensitive skin, and also very good), but I am not sure if they sell it in the USA. It is fragrance free and has perilla leaf extract, which is anti-bacterial. I plan to get a tube of this in the cream to try on my ears as well. I had the light lotion in a sample tube and used as a hand cream on-and-off during summer. It was very nice and will be on my shopping list for next summer. I also found a sample sachet of the body shampoo last night, so will try that as a wash for my ears to see if that helps with itchiness.
And, the company actually makes a specialized itchy skin cream (which includes eczema itches) so that goes on my shopping list too. If the regular Yu-Be cream can do this much for my skin, I cannot wait to see what the specialized creams can do! |

Do you know what the ingredients are? |

Translated from the Japanese website (so sorry if some of the ingredient names seem odd):
ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
Vitamin E acetic ester
Glycyrrhetinic acid
dl-Camphor
Glycerin
ADDITIVES
Vitamin B2
Polysorbate 80
Self-emulsifying steric acid glycerin
Stearic acid
Hard fat (I think this is like coconut oil or palm oil)
Tri-ethanolamine
Edetic acid (EDTA)
Isopropyl myristate
paraben
stearylalcohol
Sodium hyaluronate
Vitamin C
There are a couple of things in there that I would normally run a mile from (especially myristate) but you know what? I am SO darned ecstatic over the results I just don't care.
This morning I forgot to put the cream on and by the time I got home tonight my ears were really itching. Within 10mins of application the itchiness stopped completely, as did the heat in my skin. What more could I ask for in an over the counter cream? |

I ordered this also after reading your review. They also have a lip balm at EDS that I can't wait to get. My lips are dry and peeling and burning- Not sure why- I try not to get face products on my lips and only use things that are for the lips. Just sounds like a product to keep on hand for any skin irritations. |

I don't like the medicine-smell of Yu-Be, and I find that it's greasy and doesn't sink in rather it sits on top of the skin. However, I'm glad this worked for you. |

I bought this based on the reviews here on EDS.
I ordered the small tube of the YU.BE moisturizing skin cream.Yes it does have a smell on the lines of vicks vapor rub.The smell does go away.
It left my skin very velvety. My sweet husband said my skin looked so soft & he just wanted to keep touching it as it was so soft.
The stuff rocks.I am going to order more.Thats how much its made a difference.
If you can't handle the medical smell wear it before bed.
Thanks for posting about this.I am throwing out my other lotions & potions.
PEACE |

Well I dont know if I will end up ordering/using it before you but I will definitely update. I think it would be a bit to heavy for my cheeks though.
Did you see the EDS XMAS special codes, this will make up part of the order so I have read this at the right time Although I really need to spend just over $200 because I like free postage, but my order should be placed soon....gee I think I have just rambled for the last few sentenses.
Anyway either way let us know what you think. |

I think it is too heavy for face, smqueen. I think it would clog pores.

Do you think it may be even to heavy to apply a small amount just around the month mainly underneath, think baby dripple rash.
Thanks |

It would probably work very well for that. I just wouldn't apply it to my whole face, especially break-out areas.

I have the tub and lotion/pump love them both. The strong smell does go away fairly fast and it's great for very dry skin. |

ok i agree that this is good stuff. i used it for about a week and it has helped diminished some exzema on my neck and hands.. it took about 5 days to see a difference.. but i stopped using it for about 2 days and its starting to get red again. so i think u have to use it continually to see effect. i stilll dont like the thick heavy texture that feels damp/stickay all day. |

smqueen and pal: I would be wary of using it as an all-over facial cream due to the myristate in it (that can clog pores), but I do use it on specific dry patches of skin on my forehead without problem.
For an all-over face moisturizer for winter, both my husband and I would overwhelmingly vote for Jurlique day cream. It is really thick, so a little goes a long way, but it really protects the skin in winter and wards off dryness. I have a review of it here somewhere.
Jeannine: I agree with beautybee, use it before bed and try not to use too much. But even if you do you will wake up with such soft skin. I am really glad that you liked it so much too, beautybee.
Oh, just saw the last posts by smqueen: I tend to use this after a bath at night, but if I do use it during the day I only use the smallest amount to avoid that sticky feeling (that is what put me off it at first, then I realized I was using way too much).
I have not gotten around to getting the eczema specific cream, but when I do I will let you all know! |

Hmmm thanks for the tip Tiger tim, I still have played an order yet but its still on my wishlist.
smqueen thanks for the feedback, it sounds like its working nicely for you besides the texture/thickness. I think I could get away with it around my month as I would only use it at night.
Thanks guys:) |

Hmm I dont know about this then....I only would need it for that area so its pointless for me to buy for any other purpose/area. I think I will pass, as other products have worked for me.
I exfoliate regularly but it can irriate that area for me so that doesnt seem to completely solve the problem either.
Appreciate your feedback |
