Is there any face exercise to make face bigger?
I have a very small Graunt pointy face.Even with extra weight on my body my face is still very small and way to skinny.
I for one look older then I am.I am 28 and look 35 might even look older.When I was in my early 20's people used to all the time ask if I was in my 30's
I used to be mistaken by strangers as my friends mother all the time.Even once in high school someone asked if I was her mother.
I think this is all due to having such a skinny face.
I need to lose weight & I am scared that once I start that my face will look very very graunt & old.

I know a lot of you women know about skin care /face exercise.I am a long time lurker.Love all the idea on this forum.
Don't take this as me being rude but am I not getting any replies or ideas because I am new on here?
I am sure someone on here can direct me to a face exercise that can plump stuff up a bit.I have a pointy chin,high cheekbones,and sunken cheeks my face shape is a little long looking in pictures.
Bone exercise work or any ideas ?????

Welcome to EDS, damaskdeco. Please don't take the slow responses personally as I'm sure it has nothing to do with you being new but more to do with the busy time of year. Please don't take the lack of responses personally! Havana8 is absolutely correct when she says that things really are busy right now!
Anyway, it sounds like I have a face shape similar to yours-- oval, narrow, high cheekbones, etc. I've found the Flex Effect & Ageless If you Dare, and Facercise facial exercises very helpful in building out the muscles so my face looks less narrow. Have you checked out those threads? (I know, they're very long, but very informative.) I'm much happier with the way my face is looking (and also by incorporating the Tanaka massage, which I feel "smooths" out any strange lumpiness you might get.)
I have also been mistaken for looking older than I am-- when I was a teenager, people thought I was in my twenties! But, if it's any consolation, I am sure that you will be able to "keep" your face for a longer time against aging! (That's been my experience anyway!)

I will try the exercise you suggested.I have a few face exercise dvd's. I have just worried about them making my face more thin. I am also really lazy when it comes to doing them haha.Need to get more motivated.

I just want to echo what JLM said. I've found that the only three solutions are:
(1) Do facial exercises
(2) Gain weight
(3) Do massage to thicken your facial skin
Like you, #2 is not an option for me, and while #3 helps quite a bit, it is not enough to fill in the entire area. What has helped me A LOT are facial exercises, particularly FlexEffect's cheek exercises. I've filled out about 2/3-3/4 of the area, and I am still working on it. It's slow and takes discipline--I've been at it for about 17 months--but it's the only thing that's worked for me, albeit slowly. But, I will say it's totally worth it: it changed my face from gaunt to just on the thin side now
About your concerns about whether it will make your face more thin. it's possible it will temporarily make your face more thin, as the buccinator muscle sucks into the face, before it builds back out. As someone who started facial exercises with a very gaunt face, I can say that for me, it didn't get any worse...but I can't necessarily say that the same will happen to others who have thin or gaunt faces to begin with. But I can say that if your face does appear narrower before it gets wider, the main choices appear to be (1) stop doing the exercises, your face will go back to normal, and you can just accept your situation, or (2) suck up the temporarily challenges, power through it with determination for the weeks/months it takes to get through the other side, and then reap the rewards of making it through the other side Personally, my approach is "why settle for less" and "anything worth having is worth working hard for", but I also understand that option (2) is just not a possibility for some people, plus it is scary to have things look a little worse before they look better. So that's something worth considering.
Finally, if you do the facial exercises, don't just target the buccinators (the muscle where cheek hollows form), as other muscles also impact how the cheeks look, too. For example, I found that for me, building the zygomaticus muscles (the muscles that help give the appearance of high cheekbones) also made my face look wider and took attention away from my lower face (plus the higher cheekbones were nice bonus ).

I know your original post was focusing on facial exercises but another option is to consider and injectable product for example Sculptra, this product can add volume to hollows and cheek areas - the results can last up to 2 years.
Just a thought.

I had a similar face shape and had a series of fat injections over a period of years. Now I have more of a wider jaw, bigger cheekbones and a balanced face. You really need to find a doctor who knows what he is doing, though. If you want the name of someone in Beverly Hills, PM me.
If you have a receding chin, you could try a chin implant. Same for cheekbone implants. The jaw implant is less successful, however.
To get a preview of the above procedures, you could try some of the injectables and live with the results for a few months to see if you like the results. |

Really - this is an eye opener for me, as one of the trainers of another program said a little while ago it doesn’t result in thinner faces, that thinner faces are because of either doing too many reps (I’m guilty) or not enough Carbs - CM can you explain how you think they got it wrong?
I know I had the buccinators curve in when I first started Ageless simply because I did that exercise too much, and Lou told me I was being too over enthusiastic, and sure enough when I went back to the suggested reps, the curving went away, but the curving wasn’t the entire buccinators though, only the outer sections of it. So I’m just trying to understand your post completely as I think your making a good point that I’d like to understand better.
Someone here was also saying something about diet and lack of carbs or something that can contribute to thinness which I don’t understand, but your probably know more about it. Can you enlighten us?

I can't speak to the facial exercises but I can shed some light on the diet/carbs contributing to a gaunt, thinned out face. When you eat more protein and not enough carbs, your body goes into a state of ketosis which is a hyper fat burning mode (in layman's terms)!! If your face is already on the thin side, then you will see more fat loss in that area. Its the same phenomena with breasts...if they are already small, they shrink first when losing weight
I have had pretty good results with juvederm. I have it injected in my nl folds, temple area, and my nose(to even out a hump in my nose). Injecting the temple area really helped my face look wider and more proportioned. But you need an experienced doctor to look at the symmetry of your face and then advise. Good luck! |

Hi
A few things to keep in mind as you do the facial exercises.
It will take time.
Over doing (as in doing more than the directions say) will actually keep muscles from building
It will take time
You will have periods of time where you don't have time to do them at all- don't worry - life happens and you just pick up again and go on when you have time.
Always wash your hands before you start.
Some people starting out like to do the eye musclebuilding building exercises at night before they go to bed and ice them after, so that they are recovered in teh morning from the workouts till the eyes acclimate to being handled.
and they do the eye opener ones in the morning that drain any fluid buildup and ice after.
when you start doing the neck/platysma area - go slowlt- start with one set or less-
if your neck aches like you are getting a sore throat the next day - don't worry. It happens to a lot of people and you are not getting sick. |

Thank You for all the reply's.I am going to do some face exercise and see what happens.
Its funny I can gain 40 lbs and still not get a cute chubby face,my face is always grunt.I look like a pinhead with a pear body.
My face shape is very close to Courtney Cox or Jenny McCarthy.As pretty as they in my opinion they look older from there grunt face shapes,Courtney more so.
I may take some before & after pictures and post later if I like the results.
My new years goal is to lose some weight.Anyone know if u can do face exercise while I am doing other weight loss stuff for body?

facial exercises while losing weight is good. It helps maintain tone. And if you are older, can help keep sag away while losing. |

Isn't ketosis the thing that the Atkins is famous for, I know I heard a doctor on tv one time saying it was a bad thing because the body doesn't just eat fat where you want it to, and remaining in ketosis can do a lot of harm.
That makes sense re the protein and carbs, but I think I read somewhere that the guy reckoned that if you do muscle exercises, that you needed to increase both carbs and protein to fully recover. I'll dig it out and see if I can locate that thread, but its kind of interesting.

I just want to report that my very *honest* relatives have told me that my face has become very gaunt since they last saw me... pre- FE & Ageless. It's been about 4 months since I've begun doing these facial exercises, so I suppose I'm going through the dreaded "gaunt" phase. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do-- either power ahead & continue doing the exercises & hope for the best, or do a different, more gentle program, or perhaps stop doing facial exercises altogether (or at least the cheek ones that are giving me the gaunt look. I'm pretty happy with the eye exercises that I've been doing.)
Fillers are so tempting...
Just to keep in the back of my mind, are there any recommendations on fillers? I've tried Radiesse, but that seemed to dissipate very quickly, at least when I did FE & Ageless. |

I went through exactly the same thing, and just want to tell you I got advice from one of the trainers about increasing my carbs, and within a week or so the gauntness vanished. I'm no good with the science so he broke it down in very simple terms for me, but from what I can make out, my muscles needed petrol, and the amount I was eating hadn't changed from when I wasn't doing facial exercises (like you both ageless and FE) all the way through.
The way the guy explained it to me was that our muscles need petrol to do the movements but also to repair from them. If you don't give them that fuel, its like having driven your car round the block and only filling up when its empty, and then suddenly beginning driving to the next state. The car needs more fuel to do that. I have to confess I didn't go with that suggestion right away, as it sounded crazy but within a week of doing it, I could feel a difference for sure.
Don't remember all the science bits, but just wanted to say I've stayed the same waist size and weight, but increased my carbs with little healthy snacks through the day and the guantness vanished. I guess when Deb was going into Bodybuilding she didn't have the fat there to begin with, so was in the gaunt stage at the beginning, but he reckoned bodybuilders have to consume food regularly throughout their day for their body muscles, and that kind of made sense to me.

Guilty as charged. Just for those who haven't found the thread, I was saying its not for every facial exercise program out there - as some are only concerned with toning (which in itself can be a worthwhile target), but if your going after muscles, your body will require extra fuel (not just carbs, but protein, fats, carbs etc).
Its basically because when your doing muscle programs, your tearing the muscle fibres. So if you haven't changed your diet, (i.e. its still the same as before you started facial exercises), and your doing an aggressive facial muscle workout, then your muscles will need additional fuel that they previously didn't before and as a result, if your not eating more, they are going to take it from the next best resource, which for some people is facial fat.
Its a hard one to get your head round, but the way I learned about it was when I was interested in learning more about bodybuilding, and found that bodybuilders as well as working out focus on nutrition and consume more calories to speed up both their recovery, but also to ensure they had sufficient energy to workout. This also had the lovely side effect of helping their muscles to bulk up.
Its a difficult topic to write up, as it has so many different elements to it, but we're not talking about just stuffing your face with any and all carbs as that's not going to do it. With Theresa, I initially suggested she added a couple of snacks into her everyday life between meals. I realised she was eating quite heathily already, but when I mentioned upping the carbs, she did run like a vampire faced with garlic, but all we did was get her snacking on things like avocado and chicken salads, or almonds and peacon nuts, or even tomatoe puree on rye bread crackers etc. Just so she got a healthy all rounder from mother nature, and sure enough that worked.
I think Theresa saw a turnaround in about 3 weeks - Theresa correct me if I'm wrong here.

Between 2-3 weeks. I did avoid it at the start for sure, but I was so desperate in the end I was ready to try anything and everything possible and it did work.
I didn't like all the food suggestions (tomatoe puree I find gross) but did do some of the other things like the chicken and avocado in sandwiches etc, or ham omletts etc.

Hi Sean! Since the diet/ gauntness connection seems a bit off-topic in the bone exercise thread, I hope you won't mind answering my question here instead. Basically are you advocating for an increased uptake for all macro-nutrients (carbs, protein, fats) and not just carbs when embarking on a facial resistance exercise program (such as FE & Ageless) to help repair the muscles fibers that are broken down during the exercising process? |

I'm by no means advocating people up everything - but suggesting if people experience guantness or lack of progress that they look to diet first. Its not something that everyone I have trained has had to experience, but it is something that I have seen regularly enough, and its a small step to take and monitor.
Its impossible to diagnose every single case on the net alone, as the aging process is concerned with so many factors (but diet is definitely one of the foundations in my opinion), but there are others like dehydration, lifestyle, lack of sleep etc, and of course skincare
What I do find interesting is that those who experience gauntness often don't eat sufficient calories normally for their height, weight and age - although this differs depending on the bodytype and composition of the person concerned. I wish I could give you a rule set in stone, but there isn't one really, but at least its a place to examine if you do notice gauntness.
With Critic though (and Critic jump in here if I'm wrong) from memory when she began Tanaka she was also doing many TCM techniques and diet changes, which I think would have been improving the overall health of her body - for example her metabolism would have improved, her lymphatic definitely would have improved (its very lymphatic by nature), her organs, skin etc would all have benefited from the additional nutrients in her diet as a result.

So Sean, are you saying that if one experiences gauntness from facial resistance programs, a diet that is insufficient in calories could be the culprit? What are the other reasons, based on diet, for why one might possibly experience gauntness? Could gauntness also be an indication that one is doing the exercises wrong? (Eeek!)
I'm also considering switching my technique, to doing fewer reps and hold the counts for each exercise longer, in an effort to encourage the muscles to get bigger. What do you think?

How long is a piece of string - its kind of that kind of question. Its one of the most common answers I have seen/witnessed, but health, lifestyle etc are all factors also. Eating food which a person is intolerant to, or has a reaction to or difficulty digesting are such others. Too many to list!
