I keep reading about biological oils, I know Emu oil is one of them but what exactly are they? What other oils are considered 'biological' and how do they differ from other carrier oils (not essential oils)?

They are oils which are in the closest form to skin lipids, and the most common ones you will read about are Emu, Squalene and Jojoba. There's a really good thread which talks more about others and why Jojoba are good here (NOTCH really knows his stuff and explains it so clearly!):
