Hi everyone,
I have recently being doing the Tanaka massage, which I think is absolutely great (thanks critic). I noticed however, that the lower third of my face was becoming really puffy looking. I put this down to my being too aggressive with the massage and so backed off a bit. But, even though I've reduced this, I am still getting the very puffy uneven appearance in the lower cheeks. I can only think is down to me having fillers in the lower face, which when massaged to this extent are starting to swell and puff up.
Has anyone else experienced somthing similar with filers ?
thanks

HI jackie... I don't have personal experience with fillers... However, depending on what kind you got, they do in fact stimulate collagen. When you massage, I would almost expect that you're aggravating the tissues even more, (in theory also stimulating collagen.) The puffiness, I would then expect is really just a sign that you're stimulating everything. So, I suppose it's a matter of how much you want to deal with. Back off to lessen the visual effect. Or hunker down and work through it... I think it comes down to constant observation, and adjusting to deal with as you feel appropriate. Many have experienced that the massage makes the fillers dissipate more quickly... and some have indicated that their fillers have migrated.... These are quite important to consider... I'm sure others will chime in with their personal experience... This is just a culmination of what I've heard from others...

Is it juvederm? I've heard it in particular attracts water to the filled area (which is often seen as a benefit...or sometimes undereyes etc a problem) if you are massaging I can see that this might exacerbate this?
I have fillers but my massage has been only occassional so I cannot comment yet?

Hi girls,
many thanks for your replies. It is actually Perlane, and the lower face seems to be the only area where this happens, - perhaps because it's more fleshy in that area, I really don't know. I wish this would happen with the lips (lol), because I know filler doesn't last long in that area as they're always moving etc.
I really don't want to give up the massage, as I could see some firming up, but this puffiness obscured it.
Rebecca, is it the Tanaka you are doing? if so, how often do you do this?
thanks again
