Hi all,

Have just had my third session on the Beauty Skin lamp, and already seeing an improvement in the healing of my acne, but, my skin is also very dry, along with the cystic acne.

Because you have to use with clean dry skin, its nearly 20mins from cleansing, lamp, to moisturising and my skin is by that point flaking (only takes a few mins of no moisturiser anyway to go very flaky and dry)

Has anyone else used the above, or similar, and know if its ok to use a really basic moisturiser beforehand - even if I have to apply an hour before?

Well am on my 5th day and have decided to use morning and night over the Christmas hols.

I never cleanse in a morning and not sure if that will hinder the affect of the light, but am not going as dry and flaky in the evening after using so my skin must be getting used to the delayed moisturising. I have had the mother of all cysts appear overnight so looks like the purging is started, another reason I am using twice a day for the holidays.

I have read a couple of threads on here relating to the BQ where people were recommending the HA or Green Tea prior to use - would I see any benefits from doing this before using the Beauty Skin lamp?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Manclass,

On the acne.org message boards (in the light/laser section) you’ll find lots of reports on the Beauty Skin Lamp and also some do’s and don’ts.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Many thanks! Unfortunately all the searches I have done on acne.org, no-one is discussing product regime in the same was they do here i.e. for the derma roller, though I have posted a new thread and hopefully after the Xmas break will get a couple of replies!

Thanks again!

If you suffer from dry and flaky skin I think it’s better to use something like a ‘moisturizing toner’ before using the lamp. Just some transparent basic stuff that gives your skin some relieve and moisture and makes it feel more comfortable.
Make sure it contains no fillers, colorants, silicons or fragrance.

I never even thought of using a toner! In that case will spray some rosewater after drying.

Do you think jojoba oil or rose oil would be ok on the same principle as neither have added ingredients and as long as they have absorbed so not visible cannot reflect back?

Hmm …. I am not sure about the oils. Personally I don’t think it’s a good idea to use rose oil before a light treatment as it most definitely contains essential oils which could be irritating while using the lamp.

What about some plain HA or Aloe Vera?

The best suggestion I could offer you is to check out the Anti Aging Lightstim thread and ask Kassy.
She has a lot of expertise on this subject and I am sure she could give you some great advice.

Just wanted to update - though weirdly my last reply thanking Jimm isn't on here?

Anyway, been using now for 6 weeks and am gobsmacked at the transformation to my skin. This month I had 1 - yes 1 spot appear - and though it was the usual cystic it was much much smaller than usual. I do still have one deep lump that can only be seen or felt by pushing from inside but it has been there for 6months and is getting smaller - the orig spots I had when started all healed within a week, 2 at the most

I used twice a day for 2 weeks over Xmas, then once a day ever since (though have missed a couple of nights, maybe 3 in total) and it has made such a difference I wish I had discovered it yrs ago.

I do have lots of scars at the moment from the acne that was there at Xmas, think because it had got so bad it was inevitable the scarring would be bad, so am now looking into ways to improve them with a Dermaroller - have seen the thread in here but it is so long and confusing that am looking at the acne.org site instead for pointers.

I only use Simple cleanser beforehand and have then used either the L''Occitane 24hr cream during the day, or the Alpha-H Rejuv cream, and at night, straight after the lamp I either use rose oil, Decleor Essential Balm or Alpha-H Liquid Gold

Anyone out there with cystic acne, please give it a go, it does get worse in the first few weeks (the dryness I posted about only lasted 3 or 4 days), but it is so worth every penny and the pain of those first few weeks

My only nag about the Dr Kern is that it doesn't cover the whole face so I have to do each side for 15mins and then I do 5/0 straight on so its taking me a lot longer than expected every evening

Congratulations on your results Manclass. I've never heard of this particular light before, but it sounds wonderful for treating acne. How much was it?

When I first purchased the Baby Q they suggested applying an Hyaluronic Acid serum before the treatment for extra moisture - so this could also work well wit the Beauty Skin Lamp. It's thought best to avoid oils in case they occlude the light.

Oh fab, have been using with a dry clean face so will have to get some serum - I do have an SBC collagen serum so will check the ingredients

It was £179 from a company in the UK - no idea which one tbh as my husband bought it me but was the same company that sell the SAD lights and am sure they have an Amazon store too.

Was worth every penny!

I did see a tiny bit of info on here about it but mainly read about it on acne.org as its the same machine used in the Hammersmith Hospital research by Dr Chu - figured it was cheaper than trying N-Lite which works in a similar way, plus I can use it for months/years

I keep reading about Photo Dynamic therapy using products and lights together but cannot work out if this is only applicable with lasers/leds - Dr Kern uses the old fashioned tubes

If I wanted to occlude an area, is there a particular type of cream I should use, as a derm nurse said I 'could' but not 'should' occlude the couple of thread veins I have, yet other advice says it could help them?

If it were me, I wouldn't be worried about blocking out any areas of the face. You may even find that the light helps your thread veins.
