Anyone else out there in the same boat?? I'm in the U.S. on the East Coast and we are getting slammed for the second time this winter. We're hunkering down for what looks like a looong weekend. Just wondering who else is in the path of this storm.

Hi, Songbird - maybe you should change your name to Snowbird. We're just having lots and lots and lots of rain, but that's better than lots and lots and lots of snow. Stay safe! |

Songbird I live in North Carolina...foothills of the Appalachian Mt. and we got 12" last week and about 8" last night and today and it isn't over until tomorrow. We don't have the equipment to handle the roads to the degree that places up North have so it totally paralyzed us when this happens. I really don't mind I just curl up on the sofa with my three doggies and drink hot tea and read all the threads here at EDS. |

Toby,
We are in Maryland and are not used to this much snow either. This is the worst winter I can remember. We are pretty much paralyzed right now as well. We lost power last night for a while and now are expecting more wind and continued snow until about 10pm tonight. We have about 20 inches now and my SIL in VA has almost 30 already I will admit the snow is beautiful, but when it becomes dangerous it's not so pretty anymore. We have an old house with a flat roof and I'm now concerned about structure collapses (I've heard on the news there have been a few) so am praying for protection. This is my first winter without my beloved husband and I'm overwhelmed with all there is to do. He loved the snow and had a plow on his truck so I never really worried about it. I know we'll get through it, but I can't help but worry. My daughter is going stir crazy so I guess we'll be playing alot of games and watching movies (if the power stays on).
Thanks for everyone's well wishes. I'll post an update later. |

I'm used to snow & major snowstorms. Odd, we didn't get any this year (well, one but it wasn't bad..about 15 inches). Stay safe songbird and have someone check the roof as soon as you can. My mom's house had leaks one winter because we left the snow too long on her roof. |

Songbird, please have someone check your roof, that sounds like an awful lot of snow. Take care! |

I am in VA, outside of DC, and we have had about 30", with huge wind gusts and lots of drifting. Quite amazing. This is our third storm in a week and more snow is forecasted for Tuesday. This is totally unbelievable! |

I live in No. Virginia. We got over 30 inches and shoveled all night and day today only to be plowed in by the snow plow. I have 4ft deep on the street in front of my driveway. Nice. I have no more energy to shovel anymore. |

LOL Sheri...we are kind of dreading the arrival of a snowplow at this point for the reason that you mentioned! Of course, without the snow plow, we won't get out until spring but I am going to hate to see the huge mountain of snow that will reappear in our driveway when the snow plow does its thing! |

sherry & bren,
I hear you both. We have yet to have a plow come up our street and I know when it does the same thing will happen. We have a fairly long driveway and it has not been shoveled yet (well only a little). We are stuck until my BIL or neighbor can get over to help us because I just can't do it all on my own. It's amazing how hard it is to walk through this much snow. It's all the way up to my thighs. I guess if anything, I'm getting exercise (albeit not the best kind). They are calling for more snow on Tues. I'm starting to think this is never going to end.
Sending my thoughts & prayers to you all to stay safe. Spring will be here......................eventually |

I live up North so I know what you all are going thru, although we have had a very mild winter so far.
About 10 years ago, I worked for our town as a wing (woman) on the snowplows and I was given this poem, I just couldn't resist sending it your way. Hope it at least gives you alittle laugh
December 1st
6:00 PM. It started to snow. The first snow of the season and the wife and I took our cocktails and sat for hours by the window watching the huge soft flakes drift down from heaven.
It was one of the most beautiful scenes I had ever seen. So romantic we felt like newlyweds again. I love snow!
We woke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the Whole World?
Moving here was the best idea I've ever had. Shoveled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks.
This afternoon the snowplow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life.
The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such a disappointment.
My neighbor tells me not to worry, we'll definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful!
Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end of winter, that I'll never want to see snow again. I don't think that's possible.
Bob is such a nice man, I'm glad he's our neighbor.
Snow lovely snow! 8" last night.
The temperature dropped to -20.
The cold makes everything sparkle so. The wind took my breath away, but I warmed up by shoveling the driveway and sidewalks. This is the life!
The snowplow came back this afternoon and buried everything again. I didn't realize I would have to do quite this much shoveling, but I'll certainly get back in shape this way.
20 inches forecast. Sold my van and bought a 4x4 Blazer. Bought snow tires for the wife's car and 2 extra shovels. Stocked the freezer.
The wife wants a wood stove in case the electricity goes out. I think that's silly. We aren't in Alaska, after all.
Ice storm this morning. Fell on my butt on the ice in the driveway putting down salt. Hurt like heck. The wife laughed for one hour, which I think was very cruel.
Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy to go anywhere.
Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile the blankets on to stay warm. Nothing to do but stare at the wife and try not to irritate her.
Guess I should've bought a wood stove, but won't admit it to her. God I hate it when she's right. I can't believe I'm freezing to death in my own living room.
Electricity's back on, but had another 14" of the darn stuff last night. More shoveling. Took all day. Damn snowplow came by twice.
Tried to find a neighbor kid to shovel, but they said they're too busy playing hockey. I think they're lying.
Called the only hardware store around to see about buying a snow blower and they're out. Might have another shipment in March. I think they're lying.
Bob says I have to shovel or the city will have it done and bill me. I think he's lying.
Bob was right about a white Christmas because 13 more inches of the white crap fell today, and it's so cold it probably won't melt till August.
Took me 45 minutes to get all dressed up to go out to shovel and then I had to poop. By the time I got undressed, pooped and dressed again, I was too tired to shovel.
Tried to hire Bob who has a plow on his truck for the rest of the winter; but he says he's too busy. I think the jerk is lying.
Only 2" of snow today. And it warmed up to 0.
The wife wanted me to decorate the front of the house this morning. What is she nuts!!! Why didn't she tell me to do that a month ago? She says she did but I think she's lying.
6". Snow, packed so hard by snowplow, I broke the shovel. Thought I was having a heart attack. If I ever catch the a@#!*# who drives that snowplow I'll drag him through the snow by his head and beat him to death with my broken shovel.
I know he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and then he comes down the street at 100 miles an hour and throws snow all over where I've just been!
Tonight the wife wanted me to sing Christmas carols with her and open our presents, but I was too busy watching for the snowplow.
December 25th
Merry -bleeping- Christmas! 20 more inches of the slop tonight.
Snowed in. The idea of shoveling makes my blood boil.
I hate the snow! Then the snowplow driver came by asking for a donation and I hit him over the head with my shovel.
The wife says I have a bad attitude. I think she's a fricking idiot.
If I have to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" one more time, I'm going to stuff her into the microwave.
Still snowed in. Why the heck did I ever move here? It was all HER idea. She's really getting on my nerves.
Temperature dropped to -30 and the pipes froze, plumber came after 14 hours of waiting for him, he only charged me $1400 to replace all my pipes.
Warmed up to above -20. Still snowed in. THE WITCH is driving me crazy!!!
10 more inches. Bob says I have to shovel the roof or it could cave in. That's the silliest thing I ever heard. How dumb does he think I am?
Roof caved in.
I beat up the snow plow driver, he is now suing me for a million dollars not only for the beating I gave him but also for trying to shove the broken snow shovel up where the sun don't shine.
The wife went home to her mother.
9" predicted.
I set fire to what's left of the house. No more shoveling.
January 1st
Feels so good. I just love those little white pills they keep giving me. Why am I tied to the bed?
According to the weather channel, theres more on the way Hope you all stay safe

I am in NYC and I can barely see the nearest buildings! We were supposed to get that last storm too, but the news hyped it so much and it was just a dusting. So I thought this blizzard was hype as well, but it isn't! They are saying up to 13" but I'm thinking not that much. Almost everyone is off of work today, all schools cancelled, all museums/zoos. Doctors closed their offices. But my bf had to go to work! (advertising)
I want to be snowed in together! |
