Hi,
I color my hair about every 3-4 weeks and in the mean time I usually need a boost to refresh my fading color. I have tried two products that promise to refresh color.
The first one is John Frieda's Luminous Color Glaze the darkest brunette color they have (chestnut to espresso). I really liked this product, It made my hair really shiny and rich, and really did enhance my color. I finished my first bottle (which lasted amazingly long, as you only need a very small amount. But I found that sometimes it made my color a bit too dark.
I was going to buy another bottle of the glaze when I saw Sunsilk's beyond brunette color boost- it was half the price and pomised to add moisture as well. Plus there was one that was good for brunettes with auburn tones (which I have), so I decided to try it out.
I was very impressed, I have used it twice now and it makes my hair color very rich and adds a hit of auburn. It also really moisturizes my hair as well.
I really can't say one product is better than the other as I like both but slightly prefer the Sunsilk becuase of the color match and the moisture it gives my dry hair. Even though Sunsilk adds shine, it doesn compete with the shine that the JF glaze adds. The differences I see between the two are the following:
Sunsilk:
moisturizes- feels like a treatment for your hair
Adds a nice auburn tone (but you can get brunette with out aubrun as well)
leave on for up to 5 mins
John Frieda
Nice color- but doesn't add enough of the auburn tone I need- it does add a little bit of red- but not enought for my hair-but it might be good for all of the neutral brunettes out there (it does have a slight bit of red in it though)
Glaze- it really makes your hair amazingly shiny- but it doesn't feel moisturized.
Very concentrated so you only need a little bit and the bottle lasts very long.
Leave on for at least 3 mins
CONS
both of these products stain your hands and skin if you do not wash them off right away after you apply them to your hair (makes you look like you have fake tanning cream on your hands)

| hummmm...I'm going to try the sunsilk. I have used John Frieda and had same results. I have neutral brown hair so the color was great but I was bummed that it did not moisturize. It also was VERY hard to rinse it all out so it took about 2 showers for my hair to feel gunk free. I did love the shine...the smell got to me after a while as well. Too strong. |

| I think Sunsilk color boost is discontinued. I have been looking for a gloss or glaze, and I'm not sure what else there is. I do not care for John Freida Color Glaze...I don't hate it, but I don't like the smell, and it doesn't do much but add a tiny amount of shine and smoothness. Are there any others that can be done in the shower (left on for like 5 min) like these? I am considering one that is more intense, Matrix Prizms.plus. I think it is like Cellophane. Does anyone know what effect a more intense glaze in neutral brown would do to golden blonde highlights? |

If you are looking for a Clear glaze for hair there is also Sebastian Colourshines.
Usually it is a salon service, but I am able to get my hands on a bottle if I want to buy it.
I used to do the clear one at home every month, and I remember they had at least 15 different shades.
It costs around $50-60 a bottle but is enought for 4 uses and I think is a 200ml? bottle.
I do not remember exactly as I have not ordered any to buy in the past year.
You need to heat your hair with a bonnet for 30 minutes so it is kind of hard to do by yourself.
Most salons should sell or do clear gloss treatments by Sebastian.
But some beauty supply shops will actually sell you the bottle of professional product (there is actually a salon near me that sells all the professional hair supplies, so I usually get that there).
or for Semi permanent Goldwell has a colour mousse that is easy to use! |

Does anyone have any suggestions for highlighted blonde hair?
I have gotten Redken Shades Eq in the salon before and while I like it; I don't want to pay the cost. |
