For most of my life, I've had pretty clear skin and never really needed many produts to take care of it. As I got older, my T-zone became more oily, and now at 21 years old, my skin is more congested, blotchy, and oily in the t-zone than ever! I have always had lots of blackhaeds on my nose and extract them regularly, but I can't seem to extract my chin or the little bumps on my forehead. Don't know what products to use to get my skin back clear and without blackheads! I suspect that i'll always be congested in the nose area, but I at least want my forehead and chin to be clear!
Can anyone suggest a regime/products to help my skin get back on track? Also, if anyone's had a similar problem, what sorts of foundations can be used in the process of cleaning up the skin/for light application after it's clear?
Thank you sooo much!

hey niki,
you should try the Oil Cleansing Method... its cheap as you only use a few drops of castor oil and another essential oil. you use it to massage into your face. its a do-it-yourself. check out the link. many members are having success with it.

the bumpy ones on your chin and forehead can't be extracted? is it a tough skin that is covering it?
have you used the other end of the extractor. extractor that has a sharp end on it, called a lance... to puncture through any tough skin.
the lance end is at the right top. its not a good picture...but you get the idea. |

i think once you start using the OCM your face should clear up quickly.
if you need a foundation in the process, i would recommend a water based foundation that will give you some coverage but will allow your skin to breath.

i think a gentle scrub to clean the pores, and a mud mask to absorb extra oil might give some result |

Definitely a gentle scrub, or some sort of other exfoliator. You should also get an acne cleanser, toner, and oil free moisturizer. There are a few things you should do everyday (too much to write out!) but you should check out this post:

i would recommend you seeing an esthetician at least once a month. and going perhaps on retin-a. be careful though and make sure your esthetician knows about the retin-a use.
make sure to remove all makeup and sunscreen before you sleep to prevent further clogging. i have pretty clear skin but if i don't clean properly, i will break up.
good luck nikki. |

I've had the same issue. Clear skin until very late teens then *POW* congestion, but not * spam * pimples and such.
I've recently switched to a gentle AHA/glycolic based line here in Australia and it's helping A LOT. Dr. Hauschka's Clay Mask is also excellent, but any clay mask will help.
When the congestion turns into visible bumps my go to product is Avene Cleanance K, but there are probably other products that work the same. It just seems more gentle.
OCM definitely helps to keep the congestion under control, but make sure you give the tzone an extra massage. Continue for up to a minute even if you're being lazy!
I found grainy exfoliators do very little and tend to scratch the skin and cause flaking, irritation and scabs so avoid them and use a powder or AHA based exfoliator like Dermalogica's microfoliant.
I hope you don't mind me mentioning specific products here. I've just found they help a lot.
It sounds like we have very similar skin. My nose has been clogged since I was little, but the blackheads there are easy to remove. I've learnt that trying to extract anything out of my forehead and chin just results in pimples and red marks so leave them alone and let your routine do the work on them. |

I use Shiseido Perfect Cleansing Oil to make sure all the make-up and SPF is out of my pores. I also follow up with a gentle cleanser to make sure everything is clean.
Next is using Makeup Artist's Choice (MUAC) 15% Salicylic Acid peel. I use it about once a week or two weeks. And I spot treat cystic bumps.
This has helped the overall congestion a lot. My skin is tough, so you might want to ditch the spot treatments and just do the peel every 2-3 weeks. It takes about a month to really see results. |
