So, I did a search on these devices but I have kind of a weird question that I didn't see discussed...
I get professional IPL treatments on my face for sun damage etc. and I was wondering if these devices that are for hair removal would give any sort of benefit to age spots/sun damage for the body if used as directed. I was hoping they would help treat sun damage even though they are for hair removal or maybe the light pulse isn't strong enough?
Anyone have any thoughts on the issue? TIA |

I'm not a technical expert by any means, but I'd imagine that the opposite would be true as you have to take great care not to use the hair removal devices on tanned skin. There can be a risk of causing skin pigmentation marks through use on certain skin types, and you need to stick to power levels to suit your skin tone.
I really wouldn't risk it. |

You're probably right! I appreciate the input. After reading through some of the other threads, maybe the AALS is what would potentially help. Thanks!! |

If they advise against using it on pigmented areas, better not. But I did read somewhere that one user used Silk'n quite aggressively on her freckles, and they peeled off like they would with IPL. |

This topic was recently discussed over at the Imminst forum. One poster had been using an IPL home machine for hair removal and told that it zapped away his/her age spots, too.
Here is the thread if you are interested:

Thanks, I have a BQ but it doesn't seem to help with my freckles. So I'll look into the AALS next time. |

I found the user review that said she used it in freckles:
Quote: |
So I got this for the S.O.'s back and chest hair but decided to do the trial run on the freckly spots I had previously gotten treated at $400 per IPL session as well as a couple of zaps on my underarms. (You're not supposed to use it on your face so let's just pretend I used the device on a spot on my neck.) After 10 days, I have maybe two stubbly hairs under one arm and one under the other. I've been zapping the freckly spots fairly aggressively as, after several zaps, I got the exact same darkening of the freckly spots as with IPL, and after about 10 days the spots had all exfoliated off (n.b.: I used my Tanda over the spots for a few days and found they exfoliated off like temporary tattoos on a toner-soaked pad rather than peeling like the "cookie-crumbs" one gets after IPL. Both devices have paid for themselves many times over already) and my skin has not been this soft in Years. |

Wow, that's interesting...thanks so much for the link. I may have to save up for the Silk'n!
It sounds just like what happens with my professional IPL's where the dark spots come to the surface and then flake off...I am looking to do the same to my arms/legs...so it may be worth a try. |

Well I talked to both customer service at Silk'n and Tria and they both advised me not to try it on my skin because I have too many freckles/moles...they said the darker pigment would absorb too much light and can result in serious damage or burns...definitely not worth the risk!! |
