Hello,
This is my very first post here. I've read your interesting discussions and wonderful help sections for a long time now and even saw great pics of some of the members.
Now, I need your help!
After reading great reviews about ISClinical, I decided to bite the bullet and bought Firming Cream, Active Serum and their cleanser.
I also added ISMoisturizing Treatment Sunscreen.
Active serum (used at night) proved to be too strong for my skin. Skin on my neck and under my eyes (even though I didn't put active under eyes) became papery thin and wrinkled.
Of course I've stopped using that serum but it took awhile before the under-eye area looked and felt better.
I called Skin Care Inst. and spoke with Mary Rice, very helpful lady, about my problem. For an immediate remedy, she suggested that I use Neosporin (my skin under eyes was burning and couldn't use ISC eye moisturizer). She then sent me the liquid lipids to restore moisture barrier.
All of this happened on the end of August and even though the burning sensation is gone I look more and more wrinkly everyday.
I'm 42 yrs old, normal skin, with t-zone prone to breakouts once a month and dryness around eyes and on the neck (now more than ever).
My daily routine is :
am-ISC cleanser
ISC pro heal (had a sample)
emu oil
moisturizing sunscreen
pm-cleanser
every other day ISC firming cream (not under eyes)
emu oil and moisturizer
The emu oil and moisturizer just sits on my skin and it doesn't seem to do anything. When I wake up my neck is very dry. I started to describe it as "turkey neck".
What should I do with my neck and eyes? What should I change or add...?
I know this post is a bit long… Sorry.
Please share your thoughts or advice! |

Hi Anita!
I would suggest using 100% squalane dirived from olives.
Use sparingly along the orbital bones of your eyes and on your neck. This should add the additional moisture that you are looking for.
Good luck!

Bosoxy, Thank you for your answer. I'm confused, though...I thought squalane was shark liver oil(?)I didn't write it before, but I did use squalane oil for a few days, didn't see any difference...now I'm on emu...any other thoughts? |

Anita,
I am still relatively new but can tell you some things that have helped me. I am 53 with sensitive skin that is normal to dry.
I didn't really have a routine a few months ago. I would just put some cream on. Decided to get serious and went to Sephora. First purchase - Murad Age Diffusing (or Diminishing - I can never remember)Serum. Right away my skin was clearer, brighter and smoother. This got me hooked on finding other things that did something.
Before finding EDS I spent a lot of time atwww.skincarerx.com reading and feeling overwhelmed by all the info. Someone their recommended Skin Medica and PCA but more Skin Medica. So far I have tried their Vitamin C and Dermal Repair and liked both. I also tried the TNS and am using it but hate the smell. The Dermal Repair moisturizer has lots of good anti-oxidants and doesn't bother my skin.
I received samples of Kinerase Cream and that is very gentle and is leaving my skin very soft.
I had samples of Remergent products and loved those. My skin was feeling irritated from some Skinceutical products and felt so good after these. I ordered the Barrier Repair and DNA Repair.
I have tried some PCA products and liked those too.
I had a reaction from SkinCeuticals but not exactly sure if it was one particular thing or if the routine was just too aggressive and irritating for me.
For my neck, I have been using Nectifirm (Revision) sometimes alone but at times over a vitamin C product. This took a while but it is looking better.
LaRoche Posay has a vitamin C cream just for eyes that might be helpful.
Wondering if you need some gentle exfoliation. I have had to use Neosporin on my skin and it does help.
I would keep your products gentle right now.
Hope this helps some. Any more questions, just ask and we will try to help. |

Marie,
Wow, You definitely did some research. I will read more about the products you have mentioned.
I guess at this point I would like to find a simple routine/formula for taking care of my skin and to repair damage.
On the other hand I've started to think that maybe in my case it's a natural process of aging. We all have a different genetic makeup, different skin, etc, and some 42's can look worse than the others
What I'm trying to say is that maybe the skin on my neck is losing elasticity and this causes the wrinkly, pulling effect?
It seems as if ISC products were too harsh for my skin and somehow my neck and under-eye area suffered the most. It's very difficult to believe this statement (even for myself)since everybody loves their products but I definitely didn't have this problem prior to using ISC.
Thank you for your reply, I truly appreciate all the responses and good advices.
This is such a neat site, love it! |

I haven't had a reaction from the Skin Medica Vitamin C or felt that it was at all irritating. It is a creamier base.
I have done a lot of reading and research but still have so much to learn. And when I came here there were so many other lines I had never heard of.
My neck/decolettage was definitely showing my age more than my face and the Nectifirm has helped. I tried regular face creams but would get milia or something. I didn't try any other creams made for the neck so can't comment. Just lucky I found something that worked for me my first try. Results took awhile though.
I am trying to develop a simple anti-aging routine and so far this is what it is/will be:
AM
Skin Medica TNS until it's gone - it stinks!
Vitamin C (Skin Medica)
Kinerase Cream or Skin Medica Dermal Repair
PM
Murad Serum
every other night - Retinol (currently samples of Skin Medica and Skinceuticals)
Remergent DNA Repair (when it arrives)
Remergent Barrier Repair (when it arrives)
I'll try this for awhile and see how it goes. I might need to move things around or tweek it but happy to have found some products that my skin likes and that are seeming to make a difference. |

Hi Anita!
Squalane that is dirived from olives is more like human sebum than is squalene that is dirived from shark livers.
If you were using the shark liver version, you may still see benefits from the other version.
I personally have very good results with Ice Elements products. If you are looking for a switch of products, perhaps you would want to look into that line?
The cream cleanser that they have is amazingly hydrating in itself and perhaps just a change of cleanser would help... If you are thinking about changing products you could check out their site and message board and ask for recomendations. I am sure that you would get many!
Good luck.

Bosoxy, that's what I've read left-and-right; everybody sooner or later gives in and takes out the credit card
I think, I'll look into ice elements and maybe ask a few questions.
Thank you for your input about squalane, even though mine is described exactly the same.
Marie - great info, I will check some of the links except for Murad. I've used some anti-acneic cream from their line long time ago and my skin was literally burned. I would be afraid to try them again.
Everything else sounds wonderful.
Thank you again

Can I suggest that you check out DermaDoctor website? Great info on neck care. She sugest Dr. Brandt V neck cream. I bought it once and found it to be great for applying on top of Skinceuticals Retinol. |

Skincare,
I'll check the site definitely, thank you
I just thought of something...few years ago, my dermatologist prescribed for me Retin-A.
Reaction was not too good. I had red patches on my cheeks with dry, itchy areas.
I wonder if some of the products that I use have any retinol in them?
Maybe this ingredient makes me too dry. I've noticed some red dots, hard to describe them, under my jaw line.
Anyway, big thanks to all of you wonderful women for taking time and responding to my post.
Just wanted to add that my English might be little off at times since it's my second language. ![Embarassed](images/smiles/redface.gif) |

Anita,
Yes, retinols can make you dry, as can glycolics and AHA's. I use a slow release glycolic product, but only 3 times a week as my skin type is dry and anything more than that would be too much for me...
Take care.

Anita, if you don't mind me asking, did the Active Serum dry out other parts of your face as well? |

dollbird,
Skin on my cheeks looks and feels thicker but I still had some dry patches. Some peeling took place as well.
My chin, on the other hand, didn't "respond" to Active at all. But that's where I usually break out.
My approach to therapy might have been wrong, though. I probably used too many products too fast.
Hope that answers your question.

Thanks Anita! I was almost going to splurge on the Active Serum, until I read your post. I think now I will order the sample first. I hope you will one day find something that will work for you! |

Hi Anita I am not sure if you just tried a sample of this or if you currently use it but the Proheal does have retinol. It actually has a high percentage of retinol at 1% but is supposed to be formulated to be gentle. However, if you really have a problem with retinol you may want to consider using a different C serum. |

Hi Theresa,
Thank you for the info about pro-heal.
To answer your question, I only had a sample of pro-heal (and super serum).
I've received these with my order of ISC firming cream and active.
I know for sure that active dehydrated my skin but now I'm confused about super serum and pro-heal; which one gave me the red bumps (rash) under my jaw line and on my temples?
I've read about someone else getting a red bumps from super serum; hence my confusion to the source of reaction.
ISC is strong, I still would like to figure out the way to incorporate ISC into my daily routine
Maybe I'll try mixing little bit of squalane and super serum? Can I do it?
I feel like a outsider with my posts about ISC; everyone else seems to love it.
I want to love it, too ![Wink](images/smiles/wink.gif) |

There is some confusion on the forum as to the percentage of retinol in the Proheal but I am certain that it has 1% since I emailed ISC and asked them!
It is sometimes hard to pinpoint which product is causing a problem. I imagine that you could have had a reaction to either the Proheal or the Super serum. I don't know about mixing Super serum with squalane since I have no idea what pure squalane is like. I do know that one of our forum members was mixing their Proheal serum with the ISC Hydracool and that seemed to work well for her.
Don't feel like an outsider from what I have read everyone does not love ISC. I have used the Proheal and the 15% Vitamin C serum and would probably not repurchase either. In fact I just switched from the ISC 15% to the SkinMedica C serum and I still have most of the ISC serum left. I just found the 15% too drying and strongly suspect that the Proheal was causing clogged pores and blackheads. I tried samples of the ISC Cleanser and found that the Salicylic acid in that irritated my skin and I also thought that it was too drying. I also sampled the HydraCool and that also irritated my skin. I guess we can be ISC outsiders together. ![Wink](images/smiles/wink.gif) |
