Hello girls,

I am really fed up with all the chemicals that are hidden in the stuff that I use Sad I want to make my own products so I know where the ingredients come from, but I don't want to bug you guys constantly with my questions. So I've been looking around for books/guides about skincare and diy stuff, but I have no idea which ones to start with. Do you have any favourite books/articles/guides on basic skincare and DIY?

You may want to start on the recipe index that Havana8 put together with all the members recipes and near the bottom are many suppliers linked to as well, many have recipes and tons of information about formulating.

This is my homepage, and where I spend many spare minutes reading, learning and researching;

http://www.cosmeticsandtoiletries.com/formulating/category/antiaging/56600997.html

This is a decent book;

http://www.amazon.com/Cosmetic-Formulation-Products-Science-Technology/dp/0849339685/ref=pd_bxgy_b_text_b

Even though it's a few years old now, I still would recommend this book as a very useful guide to anyone interested in skincare 101..

http://www.amazon.com/New-Science-Perfect-Skin-Understanding/dp/0767925394/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1268619239&sr=1-1

Other than this, I'd just recommend you start by researching a few different actives, that are specific for your unique skin needs.

Some of the DIY suppliers have a great deal of info regarding each active, where you can zero in on exactly what you need. Then you need only to do a bit of googling to check for compatibility issues for those actives you want to combine..

These DIY sites are nice, with lots of helpful info;

http://www.makingcosmetics.com/home.html (you'll find loads of DIY recipe's at this site!)

http://www.essentialwholesale.com/

http://www.theherbarie.com/

http://www.lotioncrafter.com/store/

Here you will find many studies, and also the ingredient listings for all high end skin care products; (Very valuable to the DIY copycat I tell ya.. Laughing )

http://www.treatment-skincare.com/Skinceuticals/Correctives/Firming-Cream/Ingredients.html

And now you know *most* of my secrets. Have fun! Very Happy

As usual Kassy nails it. I hope you will enjoy DIY Penta. I never thought I would get into it but after years of Kassy's inspiration and encouragement I took the leap myself.

Kassy has some great recipes in the DIY thread - index that many of us here and on other forums use and love. (Try the C serums!)....Save a bundle and get results. (link below)...

Have fun Very Happy

I am right there with you Penta, jumping into this new culture...very overwhelming but equally exciting. I am most grateful to Kassy for sharing her time and knowledge and the rest of you for being such 'open books' that we can all learn from!

I know, parsnip, isn't it scary? Laughing
I never spent any time on my skin whatsoever, and now I'm starting to see the consequences Sad And since I came off the pill everything seems to break me out. I think it might be chemicals and toxins etc in beauty products so I'm trying to go all natural and organic.
I'm so glad I found this forum. It's a great resource and I have learned so much already. Everybody is super nice and I trust the people here more than I trust any dermatologist.
