All this talk about Supplements prompted me to do a poll. There clearly seems to be 2 camps here. So it would be interesting to see what others use if anything.

If you use at least one of the Vitamins or Herbs in a category, check it. If you take not take additional supplements at all, check the last box.

If you take a Daily Multi or Vitamin Pack – Go to Supplement Poll II:

What if you take supplements in several categories? The poll only lets you pick one, and there is no category reflecting more than one choice.

Editing to add: I saw the additional answer categories I was looking for in Poll II, but I didn't answer there since it requires you to take a multi each day (and I don't).

Oh well.

Oops,... I didn't read it that way, but I see what you mean.

I considered it more of a survey of:

1) Do you take supplements?

and

2)What types?

I blew past the multi-vitamin part (I don't take one of those either but answered the survey).

Feel free to do Poll II Bethany. Smile Some people take more than one pill for basic coverage.
( A/Beta Carotene, B-Complex, C, D, E, Minerals).

Since some may overlap, any combination is fine.

I don't like taking multi's every day. As a matter of fact, it's more effective to take specialized vitamins, like B-complex, C, E etc.
And fish oil...

But I do take multi's every now and then if I know my meals didn't cover all the grounds

Agree, but I see whole food supplements are missing? I also think many of us who chose to supplement do so for a multitude of reasons.

zverenok,

Good Morning! Smile I take Garden Of Life Perfect Food, Radical Fruits, FIY joint health, Ultimate Defense their probiotic, and your basic Salmon Oil, Calcium Magnesium Vitamin D combo. Astaxananthin. I am sure I may be forgetting something here but you get the idea most are whole food supplements. Plus a very decent diet. That's a coincidence I sold Shaklee well over 30 years ago, really just to buy at a discount and get the same for friends and family. Smile

I uprooted and moved over 1000 miles with a 4 1/2, and 1 year old and was 6 months pregnant with number 3. My mom was going down hill health wise so I moved to be there for her and my dad. We lived in a rental house for 2 months then bought a house and moved again. I just lost my contact who lived across the street prior to moving, I was just too busy to find a new sponsor where I moved. Smile Just writing that reminds me what total exhaustion really was! LOL

Ok vitamin gals I have a question. For those of you taking ALA isn't there something your supposed to take with it? I thought I read something somewhere.

As for vitamins I take Multi, Vitamin C, CoQ10, Vitamin D, Greens First supplement.

I'm going to be trying this new Fish Oil I got. I have to be very careful when I try new vitamin brands because some fillers can break me out in boils.

I will probably be adding MSM and some other vitamins I wrote down LOL. Very Happy

It sounds like Garden of life perfect food is like green's first. Radical Fruits sounds like something I should check out. I forgot to add I also take a probiotic. It helps with my IBS. Smile

I take biotin with it as ALA is proported to diminish the effects. I used to take with Acetyl L-Carnitine with RLA also (these are supposed to work well together).
I'm switching to a lot of singular green items like spirulina, chlorella, barley and phasing out others. I will continue to take an ALA/RLA related product but going to go at it in a new way.

I've heard good things about Greens First. There was what sounded like a wonderful green food recommended on another thread called Tonic Alchemy by Dragon Herbs. If I was going to take a combo green product this one would be it.

Ugh...I have to start taking Co-Q10 since my levels are low (along with lots of low other stuff Embarassed ), so I guess I better look at what Co-Q10 saps too. Sheesh....nothing is easy, is it?

That reminds me...there was an article on Ferritin in Prevention (April) and how even the small amounts in multis/packs may be causing colon cancer. I need to check on that and see if that is correct.

That's because I was WRONG! It is Folic Acid...not ferritin. (that's the poor retention I have when I read until 5am. Confused )

It says:

"Research links too much Folic Acid - a staple in mutivitamins, as well as cereal and bread - to colon, lung, and prostate cancers."

Hi Bethany & Rileygirl,

Yes, that is one of the main reasons I avoid eating "Fortified or Enriched Foods". They are NOT same as Whole Foods and may also contain harmful preservatives like BHA & BHT which long-term can cause problems. The same chemical properties which make BHA and BHT excellent preservatives may also be implicated in health effects. The oxidative characteristics and/or metabolites of BHA and BHT may contribute to carcinogenicity or tumorigenicity.

WHOLE FOODS is where it is at and Whole Oats Oatmeal is a much better choice than any fortified cereal from a nutritional & health standpoint.

The simpler the food (unrefined) the better for you. Smile

SkinCareJunkie, I have always taken the 2 together, but only added ALA within the last couple of yrs for anti-aging purposes.

If I had to pick ONLY one anti-aging supplement it would be CoQ-10.
CoQ-10 is a naturally-occurring compound found in every cell in the body. CoQ10's alternate name, ubiquinone, comes from the word ubiquitous, which means "found everywhere." It is one of those that naturally depletes as we age. It helps to protect the Heart as well helps with High Pressure, Diabetes, Migraines, Gum Disease and more.

One of the most amazing things that I have notice CoQ-10 which I started taking (30 mg/ day)in my late 30's, was it's ability to make your gums healthy. I had a little recession & my dentist told me he could repair it with surgery. Embarassed Well, I did a little research and started taking CoQ-10 and by my next visit (6 months) the recession was completely gone. I pointed it out to my dentist and told him what I was taking. He just didn't get it? And still doesn't. He said I must have outgrown it? But I've continued & now increased my dosage and have superior gums to this day. Very Happy

That reason alone makes it worth taking CoQ-10.
