Ever had those? You think you are making real progress, applying the right factor 50 sunscreen...using the right skin care (thanks to EDS helping me:) ) and then BAM! You realise you have lost MORE collagen under your eye.
Thats happening to me, and it's really getting me down. I'm so sick of this!!
I've lost the weight I tried to put back on, in a vain attempt to plump up my cheeks. It didn't work, my metabolism just won't let me sustain it. It has given me dark circles again. I'm looking a little gaunt, I do not like it. Plus my undereye feels less supported (only the left, which was previously the good one!)
I eat healthy and I'm using LRP 50 +++ everyday, all over my face, even under the eye and I'm still forming new little wrinkles. I thought this would help me!
I'm really getting to the stage where I am questioning topical care and wondering whether or not to use that money and just get a vial of filler planted in!
BUT I'm only 21, it just seems... too early!!
I know me and Vor are in a similar situation.
I'm considering starting retinol with vit c in the morning (instead of using it at night like I am now) - but then I'm worried I will mess my skin up even more.
Is my LRP ss safe to use? Is it the chemical sunscreen? I like having the high PPD protection, and I like that it does not dry my skin out, which physicals do.
Sorry for ranting...I just feel deflated. Maybe I should just cut my losses and book an appointment with Dr. Sebagh!! |

Hi London,
I'm sorry your having a bad skin day! Cheer up! I'm almost certain LRP is a chemical sunscreen.
I don't apply sunscreen under my eyes. Instead I always wear big sunglasses. Maybe you could try this? |

Hi SCJ,
Thanky you
Yes LRP is a mexoryl based ss- so chemical. I'm not sure whether to continue using it. I'm looking into physical ss now. (see physical ss thread) |

Good luck finding a new sunscreen! There are A LOT of choose from. If you don't find one in the in the SS thread let me know and I'll try to find one for you. Just let me know what you want it to contain. (Not saying I'm an expert, I've just spend a lot of time looking at sunscreens)
As for the topicals sometimes less is more. Maybe you could try adding one first and see how it goes. Then try the other one later. |

That's so kind of you! Thank you. My problem with physical ss is that it tends to dry my skin out, but I've just come across Perricone's 3 in 1 ss. Its zinc based, has anti-oxidants and is a day moisturizer- so fingers crossed!! |

Hi SkinCareJunkie!
I don´t want to cause you any trouble but could you help me find a good sun screen for oily skin that doesn´t leave a white film (my skin is brown so it looks kind of funny when this happens lol).
I use La Roche Posay 50+ for oily skin
Thanks and kisses |

If you're only 21, I think you're probably using too many things on your young skin. You should just get a good moisturizer and a good sunscreen, and you should be done. Let your skin rest. Eat healthy food. Drink lots of water. Exercise. That should be enough for healthy skin at your age. |

Hi! I'm not sure if you have a certain requirements for SPF and/or Physical or chemical sunscreens. So these are the ones I have found..
This is the first one. Quintessence Sunshade SPF 30
http://www.amazon.com/Quintessence-Sunshade-Medium-Tint-1-7oz/dp/B000AFMFIU
This one has a medium tint. I've also seen this in a dark and light tint. The problem is they only list two ingredients! I search other websites to see if they listed the others but I can't find it! If you read the description it says it contains green tea, and vitamins D and E.
The second one is Jan Marni Daily Face SPF 30. This one comes in three tints Light, Sand and Bronze.
http://www.skinstore.com/p-7056-jan-marini-daily-face-spf-30-sun-kissed-sand.aspx
This sunscreen is pricey. It's $51.00 for 2oz. I thought this would be a good one because it has a tint and from what I see in the ingredients it doesn't contain any oils
Last but not lease is Elta MD UV Shield SPF 45 oil free.
http://www.dermstore.com/product_UV+Shield+SPF+45+Oil-Free_10149.htm
I've read many good things about Elta's sunscreens.I was going to purchase one of their sunscreens but I starting using 302 and I use their sunscreen. This one comes in a 3oz and 6oz. This product has 94 reviews on Dermstore. Most of them look like 5 stars! I would keep this one in mind.
Now like I said I'm not an expert! I've just searched and searched sunscreens! I hope this helps!
Also, I was going to say do you wear makeup? I was thinking if you applied Mineral Makeup on top of the sunscreen you have now it may take down the shine and give you come color!

At 21 I don't think it's too early to use anti aging products as they are for prevention. I think simple is good also. Like I said before sometimes less is more. I would just start out with one product first.
I do agree eating healthy, drinking a lot of water and exercise are equally as important. |

Thanks Junkie for posting those recommendations as I was also looking for something that doesn't leave a white cast on my face. I saw the physical ss thread and was trying to wade through it for recommends but it is so long and now it's turned into a bunch of bickering.
I noticed that most of the ones you recommended have a tint to them. Is that the primary way manufacturers are preventing the white cast from physical sunscreens (aside from micronizing them)? |

Hi,
If your only 21, and feel that it is more your face looking gaunt and have difficulty putting on weight and keeping it, you should really see a doctor. Your body may be having difficulty absorbing fat from your food, or you may have an overactive thyroid or something.
I hope you find a solution soon. |

I really hope the pure pressed based works for you! I was going to order that product myself, but I don't wear makeup anymore.
Some of those sunscreens I listed contained Chemicals. The Sunscreen your using is a chemical sunscreen.
A Chemical sunscreens contains ingredients such as oxybenzone, oxybenzone, tinosorb, (Parsol 1789), and Mexoryl. LPR contains Mexoryl.
A Physical sunscreen uses Zinc Oxide, or Titanium oxide.

You may already knew this info, but I just posted it to make sure. The subject of sunscreen is crazy!
Let us know how the pure pressed base works for you! |

Like I said before some of those sunscreens I posted were chemical. You may like this one. I was going to order it but I use the 302 line and their sunscreen.

You pose a very good question about tinted sunscreen. I use a tinted sunscreen and I'm unsure if it had micronized zinc in it or not.
I used Devita Solar Body Block SPF30 on my face for awhile. It does contain miconized Zinc Oxide, so therefore no white cast. Rileygirl said she used it and I think she said she got tan. I'm not sure, what she said but it wasn't good. I used this sunscreen and I didn't notice anything tanning. I do wear a big hat though!
Here is the link:
http://www.devita.net/products/ProductView.mgi2?mgiToken=56L15N31GI2NFC1L&ID=DBB
If you live by a Whole Foods they may have sunscreen you can test out there. I went there and they had a lot of testers. I tried out MyChelle sunscreen, this one has clear zinc. It sunk right into my skin. This may be one to try out!

I hope this helps! |

Aw, thanks SCJ. I actually am, I think I over-reacted.
I'm going to look into Kassy's Home-made Vit C/E/F serums and OCM on the DIY forum. Optimistic!
My only question I have now regarding my skin is whether or not to keep using Mexoryl sunscreens. Maybe its over-rated becuase its new?
I really hope the Perricone More than Moisture zinc sunscreen is good- fingers crossed- comes out in June! |

That was my first thought- that she has an underlying health issue, or body dysmorphia (some version of OCD). I just can't imagine seeing visible collagen loss, wrinkles dark circles on a healthy 21 year old? Maybe one of those things, but all three? |

I'm glad you had a better day! I think we all have bad skin days, especially if you have a magnified mirror like me.
If you try a new sunscreen you can compare the two, to see if you like Mexoryl better. I know Mexoryl sunscreens usually have a high PPD. I used to be so caught up with PPD, I just don't worry about it anymore. I just make sure the zinc oxide has a high percent. |

Hey London Jamie
You sound a lot like me. I was wondering if you take anything for your skin? I started to notice lines quite early on as well, but when I added vit A caps and Omege 369, I found the lines all but went away. Also I find that if I use products which I am sensitive to, my lines look worse. It is not easy to tell what I will react to, but giving my skin a break always helps it bounce back. |

Do you take a Multi Vitamin and extra Vitamin A? I'm just wondering because I thought you had to be careful when taking A. |

I do not take a multi, just vit A caps. The capsules have a better effect than the tablets, and as long as you stay below the toxicity rating, there is no problem with taking them with multis. I can't because I can not find a multi that does not have things I am allergic to. I take three or so of the caps a day. The average multi has the equivalent of one, so you could supplement with one or two capsules and be well below the toxicity rating. You would have to take the equivalent of six or seven for that. |

Thank you for your reply. I'm sorry you have such a hard time finding vitamins. I have that problem too. It's one of the fillers they put into the vitamins. I haven't figured out what it is yet. I'm taking some GNC vitamins right now and it seems like I can tolerate them.
Have you ever hear MegaFood Vitamins? I take their multi and probiotics. http://megafood-vitamins.com/ |

Hey! That is awesome, thanks! I can take so few vitamins for exactly the reason you said. It is so difficult to find anything that I won't react to, that is in my price range and is a reputable brand. I will look into this stuff, I love that it can be taken on an empty stomach. I will check out their probiotics too...Thanks! |
