If this has been covered, my apologies, there's so much to wade through in regards to SRCPs and the accompanying products.
I turned 50 yesterday, and I'm going to treat myself to some copper peptides. I've been trying to educate myself in order to purchase the products most beneficial to me (skin fairly dry, not really sensitive, take Retin-A with no irritation even on a wet face), and I see that the SRCPs work best when combined with their hydroxy creams. I have a walgreen's brand of an alpha-hydroxy (kinda weak, it says "8% of a 70% solution), and also have the Lactic Acid from LotionCrafter. Can I fashion my own effective hydroxy product from this? I'm working on a budget here.
Same question for the emu oil...Skin Biology's site recommends their emu oil for buffering and/or product penetration...would another oil (I have jojoba from GOW), or emu from another supplier be alright? My initial answer to my own question would be YES, but just checking.
If my skin's dry with no acne (other than time-o-month), should I veer away from the serums and use the Protect and Restore? If so, with or without the high retinol and lavender?
Other than answers to the above questions, does anyone have any other recommendations for me? I'd be ever-so indebted for your kindness.
Thanks in advance to one and all! |

Its not so much that they work necessarily better, but some have found that these help to remove damaged tissue faster in conjunction with CPs, but I would guess provided your doing some method of exfoliation, whether with a microfiber cloth to rid yourself of the damaged tissue.
I'm interested though why you do Retin A on a wet face? I've not heard that recommended before. I imagine though that you could use one of the hydroxyl creams you have, and just pay attention to how your face responds.
Yes with oil, you can use any oil. They tend to recommend emu/squalene, but others have tried every oil imaginable. Depends on your individual skin type as to which is best, but its worth exploring. I like jojoba on my skin and it hasn't given me any problems (as yet).
Skin that’s dry can still benefit from serums, but some have found that they like the cream more, and its up to you to decide. Same with retinol and lavender – its your call.
I think trying to eat as healthy a diet as possible and maybe doing some form of facial exercises and/or massage should also be good for you to try!

Yes, I have mixed up my own Lactic Acid lotion with Lactic Acid and a plain lotion. |

TheresaMary, I got that idea for RA on a wet face from a site that I looked at about a week ago...I forgot what info I was trying to find, but it recommended applying it as such to facilitate spreading such a small amount as is instructed--pea size. I was surprised that nowhere did it mention that water can cause the RA to be irritating to some users. I tried it and liked it; before, I found myself applying more and more to get spots I thought were missed, but the wet face method does the trick! I'm a lucky one, no side affects for me other than flakiness.
As for the oil, I've seen mentioned on the forum certain oils that aid penetration; emu being one. Still looking for a list.
ammoniasmith, could I ask your process for your DIY LA lotion? What percentage did yours end up being?
Thanks both! |

I was helped with instructions with my Lactic Acid purchase from Garden of Wisdom. I bought a bottle of 88% Lactic Acid solution.
My goal was to mix up a high percentage Lactic Acid 15% hand/foot cream. So suppose I was going to use 2 ounces or 56 grams of cream as the base. Take 56 grams and multiply by the 15% then divide by the 88% which is the solution strength. So the total grams of Lactic Acid solution to add to the base cream is 9.5 grams. I have a scale for measuring the weight which is most useful in making your own products. After measuring out the ingredients, I put everything into a plastic bag and mix together by kneading it. |

I like that idea re water and the Retin A and cream. Not sure it would work with the gel or microgel but cream does sound a good idea.
Aware re the oils etc, but not sure that its a necessary step.
Emu and squalene are both oils suggested by SkinBio for product penetration.

I have differing strengths of both creme and gel Retin-A, and the wet-face method works on both. With the creme it's easier to see the distribution of the product since it appears as a white film, but I'm assured that the gel is distributed as easily even without seeing it. |
