So I was wondering have any of you tried taking Vitamin K for dark circles. I know some of you have tried Vitamin K creams. I'm wondering if you take Vitamin K it will help with the darkness. I have vitamin K in my multi vitamin but I'm wondering if I take extra Vitamin k if it will help.

Very Happy

I don't simply because my hematocrit and hemoglobin levels are and have always been extremely high, which leads to easy clotting. Vitamin K is a huge component in blood clotting, so it's something to be aware of before starting on a vitamin K supplement. Smile

I have a couple of broken capillaries on my cheek just under my eye - I think they are from sun damage. I was always curious to see whether Vitamin K really works on them so I'd be interested to hear about anyone's success too.

I know it's supposed to be good for those issues, I just have my personal reasons not to try it. I would be interested if it's helped others as friends might benefit! Smile

Thanks for bringing up this DarkMoon. I was wondering if I should take this without knowing my Vitamin K levels. I was thinking about asking my doctor, but I don't really trust doctors. Then I was thinking when your on the pill they say you could be at risk for blood cloths. So I wonder... maybe it would be a benefit to me since I'm on the pill. Very Happy

Vitamin K works to clot blood, sorry if that was unclear! Smile The hemoglobin and hematocrit are the measures of iron in your blood. I have always had very high levels where many women tend to be anemic. Smile

I have just started taking Vit K for the dark under eye circles because a maker of under eye cream suggested I try it. He is making a killing on creams that help with puffiness etc, but I contacted him to ask if it would help with what look like actual bruises under my eyes. He said I should try Vit K along with a multi and that it would take months to show any effect. I am taking about 100 mcg a day and crossing my fingers.

The doctor said the cause of my dark circles is a histamine reaction that causes the capillaries to leak blood in to the orbital area! It is so disconcerting to know that. Antihistamines don't really help, and I don't really understand how the clotting is supposed to make it better, but I am going to try.

alexes,

I think for most who aren't in my situation it helps the blood with clotting but has a strengthening effect on the capillaries as well, that would help prevent that leaking you are talking about. Smile

Vitamin K may be applied topically, typically as a 5% cream, to diminish postoperative bruising from cosmetic surgery and injections, broken capillaries (spider veins), to treat rosacea and to aid in the fading of hyperpigmentation and dark under-eye circles.

Vitamin K (K from "Koagulations-Vitamin" in German and Scandinavian languages[1]) denotes a group of lipophilic, hydrophobic vitamins that are needed for the posttranslational modification of certain proteins, mostly required for blood coagulation, but also a number of other proteins which chelate calcium ion, and are involved in bone and other tissue metabolism. Chemically they are 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone derivatives.

I'm going to take the plunge too. I'll start taking 100mcg too! Let's hope it works! It's worth a try!

Where did you find this serum? Did you use it for a while?

There is another recent post on vein cream that I am watching. She is using a product called Capiderm. As per their site, Capiderm contains 5% vitamin K. The OP is seeing results on her legs.

If you google it there are a number of sites most in the UK. Here is the official site that may help? Smile

Speaking of Vitamin K I went to GNC and they didn't have any. Maybe another GNC will have it.

I'm also thinking about going to Sephora and getting another sample of PTK eye cream that contains Vitamin K. I swear it helped, but this time I should probably take photos. I asked my BF if they looked better, but he can't be trusted with that kind of info LOL.

Whenever I read Vitamin K it reminds me what I teach in "Nutrition 101" *K is for Klotting*.... C is for Collagen.*
Dark circles may be caused by a deficiency of vitamin K. Regardless of the cause recent research demonstrates that eye creams containing vitamin K and retinol may reduce puffiness and discoloration significantly especially with long-term daily use.

sistersweets - I would love to take that course! I was wondering if you had a rough idea of how long it might take to see changes in dark circles once starting the vitamin K. I just started a week ago, so I am being ridiculously impatient I know, but...

As with many substance that are used for its localized effects, vitamin k with regards to dark circle would be best used topically. If you consume it, it would be spread out throughout the body and have absolutely nowhere near the effect of applying it locally.
