Hi
I'm newbie and I was wondering, can glycolic moisturisers cause you to break out more? I'm 23 and has combo-oily sensitive skin proned to acne (*gag*) and recently i shifted from oil of olay (gives me lots of blackheads too) spf 30 to neostrata smoothing cream. I got a sample of ddf brightening cleanser from sephora which after 4 days of use did make my blackheads smaller although my skin feel tight. well before i started using the cleanser, part of my face has lots of dead/dry skin too although i do exfoliate, sort of a combo of oily, dry skin with a tendency towards oily??
Now i started using neostrata glycolic 8% smoothing cream and yay.. more blackheads instead of LESS.
so i was wondering what did i do wrong or is it something normal? some people once told me that it's normal that when you shift something from your regular skincare regiment, you can get more breakouts etc which is a sign that it is working and the toxins are coming out. i'm really not sure about that. someone else told me that using a mixture of products from different line can cause the skin to break out too since it is being bombarded by too many ingredients.
can anyone enlighten me there??
after the good results with the ddf, i ordered a whole bunches of DDF from EDS but now i'm worried that too many glycolic products will cause my skin to overdry and produce more sebum?? or is it good to have like toner, cleanser with glycolic but keep the moisturiser without it?
Thanks a lot. why can't i have some baby dewy skin ![Mad](images/smiles/mad.gif) |

Hi there
I'm also a newbie to EDS. Not sure if I can help you out here, but on my last trip to my beauty therapist she asked me what I was using for my combo skin (problem areas on chin) and I went on to list about 6 or 7 different products I was using, Clinique, Biotherm, Jurlique etc etc...She advised me that I was probably doing more harm than good by using all these different products on my skin at the same time.
I also thought my skin was oily so was using products for oily/problem skin. She advised me my skin was in fact dry! - especially on cheeks. I have since been using natural products from the Janesce line (similar to Jurlique but less expensive - I think only available in Australia though) and my skin has never felt better.
Instead of using a gel based cleanser (as I have for the last 10 years), I now use a rose petal cream-based cleanser. I also use a slightly heavier moisturiser and theres not a anti-acne product in sight!
Hope this helps ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

Yes, your skin can break out when you start using AHAs. I'm not sure about more blackheads though... Are you drinking enough water?
Re: mixing brands. I have been mixing brands for years and have not had problems. I only start having problems when I start switching products a lot. But I can use a moisturiser from one line, cleanser from another, scrub from another etc Out of curiosity nelly.4, how many lines did the salon you went to actually sell? |

Hi,
I read your message and hope that I can help, I've been mixing my brands for over 5 years and haven't had any problems whatsoever. Usually brand names want you to stick to their own brand which increases revenue.
Two French brands can help one has been operational for more than 60 years the other just had their 30 anniversary.
To help control your blackheads try the Gatineau Effervescent cleanser (exfoliant) once a week, it has six sachets and a lotion that you have to mix, what it will do is eat at the sebum gently without causing any more distress to your skin. You should feel a slight tingling but I've used it on my senstive skin without any bad results. Try not to exfoliate more than once a week, it will create more sebum and as a result more blackheads
Then try the Decleor prologene gel, its an energising gel that heals and repairs skin, use it instead of your usual moisturiser, it won't leave an oily residue. Buy the body product its the same as the face but will work out cheaper.
Plus if your using a high SPF this could block your pores and increase your blackheads, try using the Bare Escentuals mineral foundation / powder (viel) which has an SPF of at least 15.
Hope that the information I've given was helpful.[/list] |

to all ladies. thanks for your advice. i guess my skin needs two types of moistursiers. after 4 days of glycolic moisturiser, the cheeks are dry while T-zone normal. I drink lots of water too. oh well I'll wait until i get my DDF and then see what happens Thanks again! |

Hi Mabsy
My beauty therapist only stocked the Janesce line so I guess that's why she recommended this. My skin has felt great though since it has adjusted to it.
I must admit, next week I am booked in for a facial at another centre which uses Sothys and also La Clinica products. I have noticed great reviews on EDS for the Sothys products, so am really looking forward to it. I will use your advice and mix and match products until I find the right combination. I will try and get some samples before I buy so I don't waste heaps of money on products that might not work. |
