I have been researching options to try correct textural issues on my neck and chest for the last couple of years. I was diagnosed with poikiloderma of civatte a while ago and I would like to share topical treatment options with others.
I don't have the vascular problem of permanent redness on the sides of my neck, like some people do. I sometimes "blush" on the neck and chest during stressful moments but for the most part, my neck remains a flesh tone. My problem is the rough appearance on my neck and chest, particularly noticeable in certain lighting. It has the "chicken skin" appearance some have described w/ POC. I do also have some areas of mild atrophy.
I do not want laser treatment of any kind. I have tried vibradermabrasion treatments at spa with some limited success but I would like to to treat this condition at home with topical exfoliants if at all possible. I may consider a chemical peel later down the road. I understand preparatory measures need to be taken before a peel, hence the need for a good at home treatment program.
I have Tretinoin (Retin A Microgel 0.04%) I tried it briefly last summer but quit due to irritation after about a month. I had a focal TCA peel and had undergone an IPL treatment for vascular lesions at that time, so it was a bit much for me to handle the Tretinoin treatment also. I understand Tretinoin takes a long term commitment w/ strict sun avoidance and I am willing to try again, this time for the long term. I am starting with a 3x per week application, if well tolerated.
I have heard others talk about 302 products, copper peptides, etc. What is a good topical I can add to my program of Tretinoin program that will specifically address the textural issue? Is it possible I can have success with the textural issues only using the Tretinoin? I assume any other product that may need to be added (vitamin C serums, etc) will need to be applied on the days I don't apply the Tretinoin.
I also understand there are limitations to improving the appearance of POC but I just want to smooth out the texture somewhat. I am realistic and know that complete clearance and/or resolution of this condition is close to impossible.
I don't have a lot of money to waste on topical treatments that won't work, so I want to make sure anything I purchase will be worth my time and money.
If anyone has had any degree of success in treating the textural components of POC with topicals, I would be most interested in hearing about it - what you used, how long it took, etc.
Thank you! |
