Hi for retinoid users, just curious! Do you apply a moisturizer after your tretinoin (retin A) or retinoid at night? Do you feel it helps you? How soon afterwards do you apply it? How does your skin feel in the morning?
I'd love to hear your technique!
Myself, I never used to, but have been doing so in the past 6 months. I wait about an hour, and then use Nia24 SSC, or my oil blend (sea buckthorn, black currant, meadowfoam, or baobab), or sometimes TNS body lotion.
My skin rarely peels with this technique, and feels a bit calmer. I'm not sure if this is the best method for retin A, but I can use it more often this way (about every other night). |

i sometimes wait more than a couple of hours to apply moisturizer. it does keep peeling to a minimum for me. on other days, i just apply retin-a and call it a night. if there's noticeable peeling with retin-a use, i use a lemon yogurt asprin mask on non-retin-a nights. this helps a lot. |

Since I use a Tretinoin cream I find I don't need a moisturizer on top....in fact I think it work's better without one. |

I don't use anything over my retin a. I use retin a over my copper peptides one day, and emu oil over the copper peptides the next. |

Retin-A made my skin look worse than before. It became red, peeling, dry, and old looking. My derm said that a moisturizer 20-30 min after retin-A will help without making retin-A loose its effect. After trying countless moisturizers with no improvement, I discovered oils. I ordered three samples of rosehip, jojoba, and camelia oil and use a few drops 20-30 min after retin-A. It allows me to use retin-A nightly, even in the eye area. I am grateful to the members on this forum that made me discover oils and already know what my next purchase of oils will be. |

I either use Juice beauty nutrient moisturizer or a blend of jojoba, macadamia nut, rosehip and squalane oils. |

My skin can't seem to tolerate Retin-A on its own, no matter how much I use it (I've used it for nearly 2 years, 0.1% Gel and 0.05% Cream).
Do I have to wait 30 minutes to put moisturiser on to make the Retin-A more effective? If so, I've been doing it wrong, I slap the moisturiser on right away! |

I asked that same question a while back and yes you need to wait was the response I got. Almost everyone that answered recommended the 1 hour wait time. HTH |

I use Copper Peptides - wait 1/2 hour, then apply retin A over, wait another 1/2 hour then apply Emu. The wait times are to allow for absorption and Ph changes.
This; of course is when I'm in an ideal world Realistically I try to wait this long between - sometimes it is longer, sometimes a shorter. |

I use Cerave and a little shea butter over it. I try to wait an hour, but mostly at least 30 min. |

I alternate between a few oils as moisturizer after retin-a. I try to wait a full hour but sometimes I just get too sleepy |

I use retin-a solo...never have used anything else at night with it...although I do sometimes take a night or 2 off retin and use a moisturizer or Emu oil. |

I don't put anything over my tretinoin cream because it's plenty moisturizing for me already, and my skin is oily. Although sometimes I put a soothing moisturizer around my mouth, either before or after, to prevent irritation from the tretinoin creeping towards my mouth. And on my off nights I use a soothing moisturizer. |

I wait about 30 minutes, then apply Weleda Wild Rose night cream. My skin is still super flaky most of the time though. Does waiting longer make the RA more effective? |

20 years ago, I could use Retin-a cream every night with nothing following it. No problem.
Now, at 56, I apply an oil (ELS) and a moisturizer (Cerave pm) as soon as the Retin-a becomes dry - and it dries in a couple of minutes. I also only use RA every other night or so.
I've lived in the same dry climate all these years...but my skin is way more dry post-menopause. |

If I want an intensive treatment I won't apply a moisturiser, but if I'm using it every night I will apply Hyaluronic Acid or a B5 Serum to keep my skin hydrated. I wait about 45 minutes before I apply and I haven't had any issues with my Retinol not delivering results. |

My skin is dry, so I like to use a moisturiser afterwards, but now in the UK we cannot get the cream version of Retin-A, only the gel - which balls up if you try to put moisturiser on top, no matter how long you wait.
After some experimentation, I now apply a very thin layer of Valmont rewal face mask on top right after the Retin-A gel - I find the quicker I apply the face pack (which is initially very wet when you apply it) the less the gel balls up. The face pack dries quickly, and I sleep with it overnight. I'm really liking this combo. |

i do put squalene on top; however squalene declares as serum instead of moisturizer. |

I use the .025% gel. If I'm feeling especially dry, I'll wait about an hour and then moisturize with CeraVe PM mixed with a couple of drops of HA. This works really well for me. If I'm super dry, I'll take a night or two off and just use my moisturizer. |

In the past I put squalane over Retin-A 0.05% cream. Since last Oct, when I start OCM, I have no need to use squalane any more as I find that OCM has regulated my oil production. |
