Hi Suki,
I live in Singapore - neighbour of Malaysia.
Malaysia is a great place to eat and shop.
At Kuala Lumpur (KL), head on to KLCC (the tallest building in Malaysia and in the region), I think there are 7 floors of shops (branded and general). Try looking out for "SALABIANCA" (I think it is a local designer brand) - nice casual plus cocktail stuff - you may find a casual top, yet with interesting beadings etc. If you are keen to look for everyday wear that will not hurt the wallet too much, the department store within "PARKSON" may have some great finds if you have the time to sift abit.
Also look for for some deco shops on the higher floors - very nice and cool.
In KL, you can also head on to Lot 10 and actually the whole street has several shopping centres which are great once you do the currency conversion.
You can also head on to BANGSAR - a great hangout and chillout place for drinks and music.
KL is a hotpot of cuisines - Malay, Chinese, Continental, etc. If you have not before, check out SATAY - skewer BBQ meat dipped in fragrant peanut sauce.
As for Penang, it is more "LOCAL", less cosmo - but the food is great. If you are adventurous, try Penang Laksa - a healthy concoction of noodles with fish, pineapples, mint leaves. You must also try Penang Fried Kway Teow - a tad oily but really fragrant.
The beach is quite nice.
At Langkawi, remember to sign up for the snorkelling cruise - it's really fun and the fishes just swim right next to your body! After a morning of snorkelling, they will serve lunch on board the catamaran. Also, Langkawi has some great spa resorts - I have not been to ANDAMAN - but it is tranquil luxury - try an afternoon of SPA relaxation.
If you want some inexpensive glass collection, ask the locals for the glass factory. They are quite nice for the price you pay (about half price of most places I visited)
Ehh, I think I sound like a travel brochure , ....better stop before I get edited...
Happy Holidays

Oh Suki
I almost forgot - You must look for VINCCI shoes - it is a Malaysian chain boutique - great styling, yet very affordable.
I usually stock up on VINCCI shoes when I go to Malaysia.
Oh in Penang, you can also get some nice BATIK.

Is SASA in Malaysia? I know they are in Singapore and Hong Kong.. SASA is a great place for cheap skincare & makeup, just in case you cannot help yourself. |

I've been to Penang but mostly did shopping for geeky/techy stuff Mind you, I didn't do much shopping while I was there anyway - I stayed at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, so it was pure bliss! I spent the whole week in the resort and only went shopping on the last day |
