Hi everyone,
Sorry, I'm sure this is going to sound like a really stupid question, but I'm new to the d-i-y products. Anyway, basically wanted to get a vitamin c serum but all seem so expensive. Thought of making one from scratch but looks a bit complicated and I was wondering if it was possible to buy just asorbic acid and add it to your normal moisturiser?
Think probably no, but just thought id check. Thank you everyone!
Oh yes and also does anyone get their ingredients from Skinactives.com? is it a good supplier to use? Thank you!! Xx |

I don't know but will take a wild stab in the dark. I don't think vitamin C is stable, in fact I'm pretty sure it's not. The reason for the specific DIY recipe is to make it more stable so it does something for your skin. Just adding it to your moisturizer isn't going to have any effect. |

Even DIY is only stable for a short period with LAA. If you wish to add it to your moisturizer do it per application, just about a 1/16 tsp.(about the equivalent of a drop only powder) to your normal moisturizer. Philosophy and Aloette along with some other skin care lines used to sell kits with C powder and moisturizer to do just this, assuring a fresh mix each time you apply. HTH |

butterfliesandflowers,
BTW It's not a stupid question at all, as a matter of fact it's been asked a few times here and I am sure on other forums. Nothing to say sorry for! Hope it works for you. |

I take the courage to ask another stupid question. I actually tried to make a search on it, but did not find any posts. Although I am positive there have been tons:).
Anyway, I tend to get tiny funny rashes using vitamin C. Some of them are like bug bites, others just bumpy, reddish pores.
I tried to use a very low dose of AA in the serum, with the same outcome. First I used good old Hungarian AA powder that costs 40 cents in the local drugstore, but later I ordered AA from skinactives. No difference, the rashes come and stay for a week or so.
So my stupid question is: Am I possibly going to get used to it, or I should just leave my skin alone with Vit C. |

You may want to try another form of Vitamin C. I like MAP. I think its more stable. |

Sycamore,
What recipe for your C serum are you using, and what's the percentage? Also what other products are you using on the same days? There are many variables that might play into the reaction including as mentioned before you might just be sensitive to the acidic form and could possibly do better with a C derivative? |

Thanks for the advice!
I actually mixed plain AA with water first, later I tried Skinactives AA put into SKB. Third times I put Vit E, ALA and Retynil Acetate into SKB: very tiny amounts. I used them all fresh, did not make any serums in advance.
The outcome is always the same, I get rashes and pimples . I may order the more stable form. |
