Okay, as I've confessed under other topics, I'm pretty new to this skin-care game and seriously taking care of my face. I mean, until recently, I was only using a moisturizer sporadically, if at all!! Now I use a high potency hyaluronic acid serum (by Reviva Lab), followed by Aveeno's "Positively Radiant Moisturizer" at night and Bare Escentuals' "Skin Revver Upper" by day (it might be low-end, but hey -- it seems to work for me!!). I'm 36 with hyper-oily skin and I use these moisturizers all over my face, including the eye area. I really don't have any wrinkles at all. No laugh lines, no crow's feet, no frown lines -- nothing. So what I want to know is: do I really need to use an eye cream in addition to the plain ole moisturizer? Why? What will it do for me (i.e.: what are the benefits)? Input? Advice? Suggestions?
TIA,
Carrie |

No dark circles or anything? You're so lucky!
I'm 11 years younger than you and have bags and dark circles...and my wrinkles are starting!
If you've never used a cream and you don't have any yet I think you're fine.
Just be careful because they will appear overnight when they do. |

Nope, no dark circles (unless I've pulled an all-nighter or something!). Of course it occurs to me that perhaps the reason that I don't have any lines on my face is that I don't smile or laugh nearly enough, although I must confess that I certainly do more than my share of frowning!! My good fortunate certainly isn't a result of "clean living".... ![Wink](images/smiles/wink.gif) |

I think I might have my wrinkles for 2 reasons
1) I don't wear glasses but need them so I squint
2) I sleep on my belly and wake up with creases in my face. Prolly should stop that, but can't. |

Alot of people swear you should wear eye cream for prevention, but I'm not totally convinced this is fact. The only thing I personally would swear to is you should be wearing a sunscreen daily on your entire face, neck and eye area if you aren't already. Also it doesn't hurt to wear sunglasses when you're outside.

I wear my BE mineral foundation -- is that good enough? Plus sunglasses, of course (the TX sun is MURDER all year-round!!). |

In my opinion it isn't enough, but others may disagree. Have you ever seen someone that has worn sunscreen every day for their entire life? I have and their skin shows the difference! My dermatologist is the child of a derm and she said she was forced to wear it and was never allowed to tan even slightly. She has the most amazing skin I've ever seen for someone entering their 40's. She could pass for her early 20's.

Hi Carekate
If your current skin care works for you, that's great and you should keep at it.
However, just a word of caution - some moisturizers are not formulated for the more sensitive eye area and may cause milia - which you may have heard by now, it's really difficult to remove without using laser, etc.
So, I guess, it is to use your current skin care but keep your eye area under surveillance.
Have a good weekend

I say if you have the money to buy the eye creams, then use it. Doesn't hurt to put it on even though you have no lines or bags right? |

Carrie,
You are so lucky not to have any lines! At 36 I didn't have any either. They tend to creep up on us during that hormonal change time. I totally agree with Cheri. I have few lines on my face now. The eye area was the first to show lines. For me I think it's because I wear glasses (hate contacts) and did not put a sunscreen around my eyes. Guilty of not wearing sunglasses too. If I were you I would get a nice sunscreen for the eye area that is moisturizing. |

There is nothing wrong with using those creams around the eye area as long as they don't have ingredients that are too harsh for that area and as long as they're not too rich for what your skin needs.
But, unless these products have a broad spectrum SPF in them, then in my opinion they're not enough. I think sunblock would be the most important product for you - for both the face and the eye area!
I would also recommend a vitamin C serum all over - but then again I'm a big fan of vit C and its benefits... |

I have superduper oily skin....sometimes I think not event the LM primer or the Jurlique silk dust do anything at all.
I have been following a skin care routine since I was about 14 and I truly believe it has made a huge difference esp when I compare myself to friends in the same age group. I'm 35. Also I think the oily skin also makes a huge difference. I have the slightest, faintest frown lines and that's about it. No wrinkles around the eyes or mouth. No bags or dark circles. But I do get the occassional pimple....Hormones!! Genetics play a big part, both my parents ( 55 & 60) have really good skin and look yrs younger.
My dermatologist said it was up to me if I wanted to use eyecream...his opinion was if it helped alleviate dryness in the area then go for it...but no need to spend $100's. He said I could use my antioxidant (environ) in that area. but I'm use to my routine and need to pat,pat,pat..so include the eyecream, day - dermalogica with the 15+, and an ultraceuticals one for night.
Haven't posted for a while...so it's good to be back. |
