I am trying to find a good foundation/powder that I can purchase at the drugstore or Target.
I feel my skin looks great before adding foundation, but afterward I think it looks dry. I do use powder because most foundation makes my skin look shiney and oily.
I have tried Covergirls Trublend liquid- this makes my skin very oily and shiney looking and I require powder.
I have tried the Loreal minerals powder- I liked the look of this, but in humidity it makes my skin burn all over something fierce.
I like the way the old fashioned pancake makeup looks, but after a few moments it looks dry, too. And if I moisturize first, it seems my skin looks blotchy uneven, then dried out.
Any ideas would be great! |

Have you tried using a primer before your foundation? |

I don't know what that is? |

A primer is like a clear serum you put on before make-up so your foundation won't sink in your pores. Make-up applies more evenly and tends to last longer. |

Try a lotion mask before applying foundation! It takes 3 minutes and the foundation will just sink in |

So its probably not the foundation, but that my skin isn't primed? My skin looks way better without foundation- except I don't have an even tone. But I like the texture much better.
How do I make a lotion mask? |

I would like to suggest a tinted moisturizer?? Perhaps this would solve your problem since it would not dry out your skin because it isn't really a foundation, and the slight tint my be enough to even out your skin tone. |

Well gossamer, why wear foundation than? Its the powder that dries out your face. I have the same dilemma. I like the look of a liquid foundation, but by end day my skin throws it off, meaning it just fades out beyond belief. Sometimes I wonder why bother. All I use is L'Oreal's Quick Stik only where I need it. If your skin is good to begin with use a good concealer. |

I'd wear a liquid foundation topped with an oil-control loose powder to control shine. Or you could moisturise your skin well before applying a powder foundation, lighly mist and blot with a tissue. |

The thing is, I am as pale as Sissy Spacik. I wear the lightest powders and foundations in any brand I switch to. So, while my skin looks very nice (to me), the few times I have went without makeup, I am usually shocked when I pass a mirror. Fluorescent lighting just makes me look so very washed out!
But you know... you all have me thinking. Maybe I should try a self tanner- a very mild one- on my face (surely this would also even me out?), and then just layer it with a light loose powder? I really do hate the look of an oily nose... Or maybe just powder my nose after applying a tinted moisturizer over the self tanner...
Well, I am brainstorming now. |

hi glossamerwings:
It sounds as if your skin maybe a little on the dry/dull side. Rather than masking it with a primer (Primers are nice but not a solution for dry flaking skin) I would recommend exfoliating your skin on a regular basis. Try one or all of the following:
Epidermix (a very good exfoliant scrub) or Clarisonic Brush with a mild sensitive skin cleanser.
Apply a good AHA/BHA serum at night right after cleansing.
Follow up with a few drops of Jojoba or Emu oil.
Once or twice a week use a good Pumpkin Peel or a mild fruit acid peel. After the peel, apply a few drops of squalene to soothe the skin.
Within a few weeks you should start to see a big improvement in your skin's texture.
For uneven skin tone try: (the peels & AHA/BHA will also help in this area)
A good Vitamin C serum
possibly a skin lightener like Obaji Clear.

My morning regimen IS lacking. Here is my current skincare routine.
Nighttime eyes: Skin Medica NDS (?) eye serum
Nighttime face: .1& micro retina and frownie between brows
twenty minutes after retina: emu oil/emu oil vitamin E
Morning:
???
Emu oil or Frownies "immune perfect"
sunblock
Midweek I do a 30% buffered glycolic peel, and sometimes midweek on a different day I do the aspirin masks.
I've started using a microdermabrasion cloth once a week, too. That rocks!
makeup if I am going out |

I have greasy skin and I find the same problem. I like the more even tone of my skin when I have foundation on but I hate the way it seems to highlight the texture of my skin showing up pores and bumps etc. I've tried everything from liquid foundations to mineral make up and I hate them all. I can't use a primer as they all contain silicone which clogs my skin up really badly. The best solution for me is just to use a small amount of a light liquid foundation and concealer where I need it most. This doesn't give great coverage but it a compromise I can live with. I do admit that I am very fussy and hate to look like I have any make up on at all. I think most women are happy to look somewhat "made up" as I generally find looking at others that I wouldn't be happy with how obvious the make up looks. This is just a personal preferance and perhaps you might be the same as me? |

YES. I don't like mascara until its nearly empty (and goes on super fine and dry), and I hate all but the very most matte eye shadows. And I don't wear eyeliners. I like makeup to enhance me, but I hate looking painted. But then I am also so very pale and its hard to even find foundations as light as me. :-\ |

I wanted to update here- I found another thread Sunday here about "misting" after applying powder to set it, as well as give the face a "dewy" look. Well, I tried it. I had an empty windex bottle (ha) that I rinsed and washed well, then filled with distilled water and spritzed over my powder. Someone said that you could make your own mist with distilled water.
Voila! Dewy faced!!! No more dry powdery look!
Also, the DIY Vit C serum under my makeup seems to help if I want to only wear powder. The glycerin seems to make my whole face dewy, even after powder.
Anyway, maybe misting could help someone else, too. |

I adore ponds! But, I can not use any cold creams. They make my peri-oral dermatitis go into overtime. If I use oils on my face, they have to be natural ones. |

Have you tried a little oil on your skin overnight after cleansing the oil/dirt mixture off? I find just using a tiny drop of a nice oil on a clean damp face really hydrates overnight. You can still use a moisturiser over top once it sinks in. |
