Hello everyone,
I was extremely skeptical about this product since it didn't make sense to me to go to bed with makeup on my face. I also don't wear make up at all so imagine my hesitation in testing this product. I had it since Christmas but I shelved it for almost 5 months before I decided to test it out around May 1st.
I read a lot of reviews and knew before hand that the sponge applicator was a huge problem (waste of product, contaminations, hard to use, etc) so I just bought a bunch of disposable sponges and cut them up and dipped the sponge straight into the jar.
For the first week, I only spot treated a few "acne scars" and my nose area (where it's slightly oily, has some blackheads and pores are largest on my face). I actually noticed the positive results after the 2nd night, but I didn't want to believe it. After a week, my nose pores are almost invisible and my blackheads were gone. My acne scars have lightened about 90%. My acne scars usually go away completely after about a month or 2.
So after seeing the positive results, I then moved on to test a bigger patch (still not quite my entire face) as I was still not 100% confident. However, after 3rd week, I was so impressed: my skin was looking SO much firmer, brighter, smoother, and more even-toned. Even a few stubborn clogged pores I had had forever somehow disappeared or came to head and dried off. The only adverse reaction I got was my skin turned dry and slightly sensitive in the spots where I over applied during the 2nd week. I got overzealous because it was working so great so not only I applied a very thick layer, I also re-applied those spots 3-4 times a day during the 2nd week. It's recommended that you apply it over a moisturizer, but I use it alone. I apply it on my cleansed skin after 20 minutes after cleansing. I usually wait 15-30 minutes after cleansing my face prior applying any products to minimize irritation.
I HIGHLY recommend trying it for at least 3 weeks, but most people will see some results within the first week. I believe most people should see a difference in their skin and their overall appearance. Please remember when trying a new skincare product, try to keep the rest of your beauty routine the same.
The product cost $60+ and the way I'm using it, it will last me at least 6-8 months. I cut up disposable makeup sponges into small pieces and use a fresh one each time. I'm using light tint version as it has 3 less ingredients than the clear (which has potential irritants for some people). I have normal skin w/ slightly oily nose area in the summer and slightly dry all over in the winter.

Thanks for this review Chesterfield. I've been reading other threads about it, and I know people have had mixed results. I'm most interested in the fact that it lightened your acne scars (those flat, red marks), as that's my current obsession... I didn't see a difference on the ingredients listed on Sephora's website between the clear and the tinted versions (and BE didn't list at all). Could you tell us what 3 aren't in the tinted ones? Thanks! |

Trust me. I was so skeptical but it helped lightened those red acne marks in no time. It's due to vit C, mild retinol, and other ingredients in it. Also it's good for those who are sensitive to silicones. Buy it from where there's a "return guarantee" so in case you don't like it you can still return it (Sephora, qvc, etc.) You can get samples of it as well from Ulta/Sephora.

Awesome, thanks for the thorough info Chesterfield! It's on my "to-try" list, and that's a good idea to get it where I can return... sometimes I forget about that part (but how useful!) |

When you go inside the Bare Minerals store, is this the product right at the checkout counter?
B/c I went in there a couple of months ago to buy some eyesahadows, and I saw this product, and she suggested you put it on at night, and that just scared me a bit...
However, after reading your review Chesterfield, I am very tempted to go hit up the store soon! Kuddos for the review!
What color does it look like on the skin or is it completely translucent??? I know you mentioned the clear, so I'm assuming that goes on completely clear...Hmm
And I'm glad it works for you! I'm hoping if I used it it will work for my skin as well.. |

Gellys -- no I'm using tinted Light since I want more actives and less possible irritants. Clear has corn starch and other ingredients which can be drying and give some people reaction. Make sure you spot treat or test a patch first for the first week before you use it on the entire face. As you get positive results, you can then test on active pimples/cysts,clogged pores, and acne-proned zones.
It can be used any time. Some people even wear over their sunscreen, or under their other mineral makeup during the day or even by itself during the day.
I find it's great for broken skin (picked pimples, or broken pimples, etc) or irritated skin. If you over apply it, it will look irridescent, but if you just dust a thin layer, it looks absolutely lovely! You need very little each time. I seldom use it on my entire face, but I spot treat intensively (acne scars, oily nose, freckles, etc) because it works for me. I can see those spots I target are improving each day. Definitely get samples and use a brush or a disposable sponge to apply! |

This is tempting me but I am a little concerned by the "may contain: bismuth" - in yet it is not listed as an ingredient. Perhaps it is mentioned only as it is made on the same premises as their foundation which does contain bismuth as an ingredient.
-chesterfield from reading your comment on dusting a thin layer on and it looks lovely - does this mean it gives a slight amount of cover? I would LOVE to find a product that gives a small amount of cover for day use (rather than a foundation) and what a great bonus if it also healed and helped the skin too!I hate wearing makeup everyday but don't feel confident enough to go 'nude'!! lol |

I have been using the light and it does give a small amount of coverage. I've seen some reduction in redness but not much effect on pore size. You can order several places on line. I got mine for a good price at
http://www.dermatologistskincare.com/
You can get additional discounts on this site depending upon the dollar mount of your order. I have also been using the Rare Minerals blemish therapy and I really like it. |

Thanks oakview,
Can you still put moisturiser on at night, or literally just the rare minerals alone? and does it matter about skin type?
I am so tempted, but am also looking at Pevonia's propolis and one negates the other (oh the dilemma - always so many products to try!!!) |

My understanding is that you apply all your other skin care first and put the rare minerals on last, like a finishing powder. You can certainly use moisturizer under it but I would let it dry first. Good luck! |

If you have broken skin (picked pimples, irritation from retinols, waxing, etc), just dust the mineral in those spots and it will work almost immediately. I usually go to polysporin but this works a lot better for me.
I usually spot treat in areas (not my entire face). This is my routine, which is different because I have combo skin and I don't wear makeup at all. I wash s/s off my face at night. Wait about 30 minutes. Spot treat certain areas to reduce redness, shrink pimples, lighten acne scars, fade freckles. I don't use anything under or over it. Because I specifically spot treat these areas, I know rare mineral works for me because I can see those spots get transformed right in front of my eyes.
Then once a week, I will also use Differin (for treating clogged pores main from sunscreens) or Skinceuticals .5% retinol after cleansing. Then wait about 30 minutes or longer and this when I dust a light layer of mineral all over my face.
But my favorite thing about this rare treatment is this: When I have a cyst or pimple, I spot treat with Differin or Skinceuticals .5% retinol. Then I wait 30 minutes and cover the whole spot with Rare mineral. This always reduce the pain, the redness, and the size by of the cyst by the next day and doesn't leave me too much scarring by the end of it. I love it. I used to spot treat w/ retinol and it works but it always leave a red mark after or in surrounding skin. With this combination, it heals and doesn't leave a redness in surrounding area at all. It leaves very very little red. Once it healed, I continue to spot treat and the scar will go a way within a week.
Yes, the "warning: may contain titanium dioxide, bismuth, etc." is due to sharing the same facility where BE also manufactured.
Like anything else, it may work great for some people, and the opposite for others. But for me, I really like it because it gives me visible results. |

Thanks for the great replies. It is great to know I can wear it with our without moisturiser (in case it drys my skin out). This is now a definite on my list
It will be wonderful to be able to wear something during the day that gives a little cover while doing my skin good! I am not sure whether I will use it day or night or both but it just sounds so flexible - I can't wait to try it! |

I LOVE my Rare Minerals! I have been using this for maybe 2 months now! My main goal was to work on the pores on my nose and cheek area, and I am seeing a huge difference in the size of my pores! REALLY! It took me awhile, too, to think it was ok to put a powder on my face to go to bed, but once I saw it making a difference, I was hooked! I use the light and apply it with a baby buki brush. I already have a back up ordered as I never want to be without this product! |

Great to hear babyb! Mine is on its way and I hope to get it by next week - can't wait to try it. I am planning on using it during the day as a very light cover, tinted.
I was concerned about how to apply it given people's comments on the sponge/ applicator it comes with - but after reading that you use yours with the baby buki I do have a kabuki brush so will try it with that instead |

Thanks babyb. I am planning to use the zenbiotics sun protector (natural) underneath the rare minerals hopefully they will work well together if applied 20 mins apart... |

I have some left and you just motivated me to start using it again. I've used it on and off but I've been on the fence about it - maybe if I actually stuck to it for a while that would change Thanks for the review. |

I am GUESSING that some have seen FAST results, but RM would be like most things...it needs a little time to truly do the job. Leslie has been granted permission on the air to say it reduces pore size, and you know what you have to go through to be able to make claims like that. Works for me! |

I agree it takes at least 2-4 months for any product to work, but for some, you can see some mild results initially. If you still have some left, I'd finish it out -- at least test spot it for couple months. I spot treat/test a lot and I still have A LOT left. I don't think I need another one for at least a year. I use very sparingly though. |

The large size container is for 3 months, but I KNOW I will get way more than that! I use the brush, too, and some have said they feel a brush would use more. Knowing it lasts a long time helps to justify the cost! |

I've got my ex picking up a small one for me in Vegas to try, as the size and shipping available on line were a bit much to start. I hope to find this as effective as reported and am curious about the day use, is it actually something that can be used during the day or is it best at night?? |

I do not use it during the day, as I find it still leaves a little bit of a sheen on my face, which does not bother me at night. On one of her last shows, Leslie stated she wears it to bed and gets up in the morning and does not wash her face at all...just puts her day stuff over it and is ready to go! Now, I KNOW I could never do that!!! |
