For those of you who love Dermalogica's Dermal Clay cleanser, you will also love this because they are comparable. This one has a very light pale green color and smells and feels very minty and menthol-y. It has a pleasant tingle afterwards, and your face feels clean and refreshed. I would have to say that I think the Dermalogica one has more of a tingling sensation. I made the mistake (again) of puting the Darphin one over my eyes to remove eye makeup, and was met with an unpleasant sting So just make sure not to use this cleanser for your eye area. |

Thoughtcrime -- seriously, you've GOT to stop telling Mabsy and me about the tingly products ......... we're going to be broke because of you!!!!!!
Thanks so much -- I'm ordering this asap . . . seriously, some people like cigarettes, others like "other" things -- I'm addicted to tingly / menthol-y sensations!
Thanks, Thoughtcrime! |

LOL! How true! Sounds like a nice cleanser though, plus I like Darphin products too!
And Lisa, I use the "some people smoke and do drugs" routine on my b/f as well to explain my expensive skincare and perfume buying habit (ok ok, I'm not in denial, I'll say it: "skincare and perfume * spam alert *"). Works like a charm
But I have just decided to try out a moratorium Of course that waited until I got off the phone with my mum (addition of Phytomer to the shopping list) :P I want to see how long I can go without buying anything. So I'm really hoping that the Darphin is not as minty as the Dermalogica... I've spent way too much money on skincare and perfume over the last few months and have just overspent on my Xmas shopping too... I'm hoping that I can go through December/January without any purchases and then buy myself a little (big) happy for my Bday |

Hi Chunlisa!
Hee Hee, I see I'm encouraging your addictive habits! I know, this forum is bad for product junkies because you meet others who introduce you to other products. I keep saying to myself, "no more" and then I relapse (sigh)... This * spam alert * is definitely my dirty little secret :P |

Hi Gals,
Ha ha, Mabsy, I like your "let's see how long I can go" plan. I think I've been buying too much as well -- I think I average two orders a month since September. It's awful . . . BUT . . . I think I'm going to try to stop for a while to use up all my new products so far. I have a new Valmont Renewing Pack that's not even opened, as well as a whole bunch of Yonka products that need to be used! AND I just ordered a whole bunch of the Dermalogica Dermal Clay Cleanser and Microfoliant . . . soooooooo . . . I should be preoccupied for some time.
Darphin can wait a while but it's definitely a good thing to stop and take a look at your items. Besides, having too many items sitting around isn't good for the products
Wow, it is an * spam alert * -- but it's more of an * spam alert * to BUYING the stuff and stocking up -- at least for me. I like seeing all the boxes of products 'waiting' for me to use them ha ha ha.

I fully agree with you on that one! I'm the same. Being a sucker for packaging just fuels this even more (especially with perfumes and their pretty bottles; it's become a hobby!). It's also getting stuff in the mail How weird do I sound!! |

Mabsy, I agree getting stuff in the mail is so FUN! A nice change from the usual bills and junk mail. I look so forward to trying SAMPLES! Curious to know how many perfumes you own? I've never gotten into perfumes because I'm so sensitive to smell, but have admired the packaging i.e. the bottles. But I must say I'm glad my * spam alert * lies mostly in skincare, (used to be hair care but I think skin care replaced it) and I am now getting into makeup... uh-oh! |

Yeah, I like getting samples too. I like the little packaging and trying something new as well
I tend to keep my perfume collection down because if it expands too much I start feeling bad about it So when it gets to the point where you think their combined value warrants an insurance policy then you should scale back. LOL That's my theory anyway
So as my perfume tastes change I get rid of the ones I don't like and replace them with new ones. At the moment I have about 20 bottles (two more in the mail as we speak *blushes*), most of which were purchased this year. Since the beginning of the year I have gotten rid of about 15 of the ones that I wasn't too attached to anymore.
If I became sensitive to smell one day all of a sudden I have no idea what I would do!
My makeup * spam alert * is in check at the moment, I am happy to say. I went through a haircare phase too but then decided that I am complete ditz with respect to being able to control my hair and that no product will help me. That seemed to cut down on the TiGi purchases

Great theory I should start using that when I think about buying more skin care products! :P |

Speaking of perfumes, I have a theory of my own.
"The number of perfumes a girl owns is a reflection of the girl's dating personality."
I only say this because my best friend and I are total opposites with perfumes and total opposites with dating styles. My friend has at least 15 different perfumes that she uses (depending on her mood) -- and her dating style is pretty much the same. She doesn't date 15 guys at the same time, but she has had a lot more boyfriends than I have. I guess she's easily "convinced" of liking different guys.
I, on the other hand, have used the same perfume for the past 8-9 years (5th Avenue by Elizabeth Arden) because it's the only perfume that I don't get sick of and it turns into a really great scent on my body -- I can't tell you how many people have complimented me on the way I smell (ha ha, interesting trait to have, I'm sure). In addition, I've been dating the same boyfriend for over 5 years now -- AND . . . he's my first boyfriend (I'm 23 right now).
Anyways, I think this holds true for a few of my other friends. Another one of my friends has a ton of perfumes (she loves the different smells and different bottles) and she ALWAYS has a boyfriend -- albeit not the SAME boyfriend.
So . . . no need to confess your dating styles online but it's something interesting to think about hee hee hee!
As for getting stuff in the mail -- I LOVE IT. I've become a real on-line buyer nowadays due to convenience and free shipping offers. It's a lot easier than having to go out in the cold to buy stuff.

I'm prone to classic, clean florals myself. Though I used to buy one of those (young) women who bought different ones, I no longer indulge. It's expensive, and I found that often, my fragrances just sat there ... some going rancid.
I now love Chanel No.5 (classic!) and the No. 5 Voile. I wear Coco sometimes in the evenings. I love Creed's "Fleurissimo" (created for Grace Kelly). Lauder's "Beautiful" & their classic "Estee" remind me of my Mum, and for this reason, I like to spritz them on at times. And though they're store brands, and I haven't bought them lately, I love Banana Republic's Womens fragrance and Abercrombie & Fitch's Womens fragrance - they're both clean & light. Gap's "Heaven" is right up my alley too.
One fragrance that I cannot stand, and feel sick when other people wear it: Calvin Klein's "Escape". The melon notes in it make me feel nauseated:( Ditto for anything too spicy or oriental. One good example: Estee Lauder's "Youth Dew". I call it "Youth Pee-Yew" (I am holding my nose right now!) Gross, gross, gross!
Addendum to Darphin products: Darphin is now owned by Estee Lauder too. part of the "Lauder family". Sigh! |

Lisa - OMG girl! What exactly are you saying about me! :P Doesn't really add up though. I tend to be involved in long term relationships. Previous was 8 years, current coming up to 3 years. I just like my smelly stuff!
Caspers Mum - Totally agree on the Calvin Klein front. I actually don't like any of his fragrances but Escape (to me) is one of his worst. Someone once gave it to me as a present.... Though I must say that I love spicy and oriental stuff. Btw. you might like D&G Light Blue or Lanvin Eclat D'Arpege. Very clean and fresh! |

WOW !! Chunlisa -- two orders a month since September!!! At least you're well stocked for a little while and if the products are unopened there's no real need to worry about their shelf ife I guess! I'm with you when it comes to shopping online then to go out in the cold--the convenience factor rates very highly on my scale and there's no need to trek back as the thing has run out and is being re-ordered. I had a ball reading this thread about all our skincare-junkie tendencies-- I am also GUILTY as charged when it comes to shopping for products-- my boyfriend has now resigned to the fact that it's common for me to spend hundreds on products in a visit to a department store -- his dad obviously pointed out the same shopping behaviour with his mum! I guess same goes for the love he lavishes on his car ..... but I admit I can SERIOUSLY see a potential * spam alert * creeping up here on EDS with my order looming-- praying that I'll make a concerted effort to keep it stream-lined.... As for getting things in the Post, pfft !!! I virtually tear the thing open before I'm in the door!! :P I occasionally buy stuff from Ebay- namely Seven jeans since they are a total rip-off here in Australia -- but I can't wait to get my first order from EDS *Rubbing hands together* Everyone sounds over the moon when they get stuff and I'm looking forward to the generous samples that always seem to spawn more orders. HAHA
While we're on the topic of Darphin-- I was surprised to find that this brand along with Decleor are sold in pharmacies in France. It's interesting because they're recognised Salon products here in Australia. Another expensive haircare name such as Phyto can also be found in local pharmacies there. That makes me think that they are good mid-range products that are cheaper to buy in France but on the flipside we're paying for import duties on products that we thought were "top shelf"
I have a real weakness when it comes to perfumes-- I have around 20 gorgeous bottles, but about 5 that I am deadset faithful to (luckily we're not talking about boyfriends LOL!) .... I used to love the light as air Issey Miyake kinds but found they didn't last on my skin, the scent just evaporates to nowhere and no trace is left of it whatsoever I love Lolita Lempika, beautiful spicey scent that reminds me of chocolate and my latest acquisition. Gucci Women II in the gorgeous pink bottle, it's hot. I have to make a beeline for the spicier oriental "heftier" notes as they linger as a perfume should!

LOL. Lolita Lempicka is one of the ones that I'm waiting for to arrive in the mail next week Together with the shower gel and the body lotion *blushes* Love the bottle! I was really looking forward to Gucci EDP2 but it didn't do much for me. Love the original though!
Ps. I doubt that Lisa's products are in their unopened state You've GOT to try them once they arrive! |

I think I should correct myself (hangs head in shame ) before there is an outcry in describing the Darphin and Decleor products as "mid-range" and not "top shelf" as I found them sold in the Pharmacies in France, I think that is a too-quick and silly perception as I was comparing it to common pharmacies here in Australia-- more to the point, the French have a standard-- a very high one at that-- in the range of skincare they sell in their pharmacies ^^
Another interesting thing is the French seem very exclusive/ protective of their beauty industry-- considering more than 90% of top products are Made In France, I never came across any brands like La Prairie or Valmont (which are Swiss I believe) sold in Sephora, Longtemps or Galleries Lafayette department stores in France... although I did see Shiseido and MD Formulations, I wonder why that is?
Mabs ! This is the first time we're online at the same time! I know, the original Gucci Women is heaven, but when I smelt the anticipated Gucci II I liked it too but it's probably not as intense and lovely as the original. I bought it for my friend in the purse spray size as well for her birthday, she loved it. Lolita Lempika is addictive you will love it, I have been using the body lotion on its own as my boyfriend bought the fragrance but it has no spray pump, I think it's a refill bottle!! :P:P I am actually waiting to order my bottle of the Argent Provocateur fragrance (another non-French perfume which CANNOT be found in France!) Despite it's name it is actually British. It's a heaven-scent, soooo beautiful and warm on that it's almost hypnotic. The ladies at DJ's (Australian dept store) told me that the gorgeous pink porcelain bottles were flying out as men were coming in to get it for their girlfriends, wives, or mistresses! :P I'll probably buy it fromwww.abeautifullife.net in the new year after I get my order of Phytomer from EDS. |

Oooo! I can't wait to get my Lolita I love shower gels too so I'm curious to see what the Lolita one is like. Believe it or not I've passed by the bottle many times and didn't spray it till my b/f sprayed the mens one (very nice!). I decided that since the men's one is so nice then I might give the women's one a go. And voila! I only tried Agent Provocateur on a card but didn't like it. Mind you I haven't tried it on my skin and that can make a world of difference. Will try it when I head to DJs next! |

The shower gel is YUMMM, smells devine!! a little lathers all over and lasts long as well, it makes my towel smell so nice in the bathroom...I really love layering this perfume, it's the secret to keeping the scent alive all day. Sadly, I've run out as I only had a small tube of it from a giftpack I picked up a bottle of the Lolita Lempicka Body Lotion in France and didn't think to get the Shower Gel..... drats! what was I thinking!?! That reminds me, if your mum is still O/S in France-- THERE is the place to buy perfume as it is cheaper, definitely better prices than duty-free!! |

MABSY! You mind reader! You're right -- I always have to open things when they arrive -- BUT a few items aren't opened as they're just re-stock items (Yonka re-fills, if you will), but anything new, I am ON IT RIGHT AWAY. It's so awful hee hee hee! But you know me so well (kind of scary actually)!

Lisa - LOL I just assumed that you're similar to me when I get my EDS parcels Anything new HAS to be tried, anything that is being restocked is safe and unopened
Ooops, I played a big part in making Thoughcrime's Darphin thread about perfume and addictions *blushes* Sorry Thoughtcrime! I do have a Darphin question though, have you tried the Desicrustant Lotion and the Purifying Balm?

To all the girlies,
I don't buy perfume-thank God! I can't imagine what my wallet would feel like. I spend enough on my face/body. Another down fall is clothing. Once I spend, for example 150.00 on a shirt/tee that seems to be my standard spending price. Ouch. I am a big Eileen Fisher lady; love Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom too. On a skin care note again, I should be getting the Valmont masks I have been threatening to buy in the mail today. Wouldn't you know it that I also have a facial scheduled too:(.
It feels good to be back in the forum, glad to see you all are doing well even if you are spending in line with the national debt!

Hi Mabsy,
No worries about the topic change
I found it quite interesting to see how people link their relationships and their perfumes. It was also interesting that people's perfume choices seemed to match their personalities (online at least :P)
BTW, I have not tried the Desicrustant Lotion and the Purifying Balm.
I was sad to hear Caspers Mum's comment that Darphin s owned by the corporate giant Estee Lauder. Geez, what DON'T they own! |
