There seems to be a HUGE problem here in Italy, to import any kind of cosmetics (even those already sold in the territory) from extra-European countries. I have been told by 2 couriers and the Italian Mail that there is absolutely no way that a person (as opposed to a company) can import these goods; it's a Health Authority new law - in fact two parcels destined to me have been sent back to the senders. I also have been told this regulation affects the whole of Europe. Any one of you have had problems in receiving goods when the packing slip/documents mentioned "cosmetics" or anything similar? They said that only "authorized" companies can import skincare products, and even then they have to furnish a ton of documentation. If any one of you has suffered this problem, would you suggest how you solved it?
A kind Mail employee suggested not to mention that the parcel contains any kind of cosmetics, medicines or supplements ("brochures"?) and not to declare a high value, because this immediately gets the Health Authority attention. I do not know what to do…any proposals? |

I always have stuff from outside the EU marked as a gift... that way I avoid the nasty UK import taxes. Do you know anyone in the UK or france who could buy on your behalf and then re-pack and post on to you? |

You see, I have been told that the whole of Europe is bound by this law and therefore it would be useless to use a European address to receive the goods. Apart from the import duties and taxes (do not get me started), the law FORDIBS the import of cosmetic products. I still have not been able to find out if this is true or not. Italy, eh? |

Does this apply to parcels sent by companies only or by the general public as well? Say you got someone (not a company) to send you the stuff and mark it as a gift (and perhaps include a birthday card ) would they have the nerve to reject such a parcel? |

Except for import duty occassionally.
Good luck |

Thanks to you all. I guess I've been very unlucky then...I have been actegorically told that there is NO WAY cosmetics can be imported. Not even as a gift from another person; you see, it is a Health Authority thingy - nothing to do with Custom's. I don't know...2 of my cosmetic parcels have been sent back. |

I live in Norway, and haven't had any trouble receiving packages from EDS or any other websites (except that I've had to pay duties a few times). We do not have that kind of law/regulation here, so it might be country-specific to Italy? |

I am in the UK also (Scotland) and haven't had any problems receiving parcels.
I know customs is not your problem but I would just like to say AAARGH!!! to the crazy costs of importing goods - you can find a real bargain on the web from a site based in the USA, and before you know it the cost has practically doubled. Crazy. |
