Hi, I am current starting several retinoid products for different parts of my face. Differin 0.3 for my nose, Retin-A micro 0.04 for lines on my forehead, and Olay PRoX under the eye and all over the rest of the face (can't stand renova 0.02 even though my derm said its the best eye cream).
It's been a month now and I started to have some improvement as well as some common symptoms like dry and peeling. I use a very rich cream moisturizer-Sheseido BioPerformance after to lessen the problems.
1. Do you guys use anything else besides the moisturizer while on retinoid treatment? I'm thinking also adding the vitC or copper peptide concentrated gel but afraid of the low pH. What will be a good one? and how should I work it into the routine? (before or after my retinoid)
2.It really bothers me that I can;t use any foundation or colored/tinted moisturizer cuz the lines on my forehead and under the eyes really shows after the makeup. I've tried several department store liq. foundations but nothing really works. I am looking for a way to wear my makeup without looking cakey/cracky. I've tried to use the MAc primer but still didnt help. Is there any good makeup I can find from the drug store?
3. The lady at sephora told me that I need to exfoliate my face more (2-3times/week) in order to wear my foundation smoothly. Is she right? I thought ppl dont need to exfoliate much while on retinoid. Since tt's hard to exfoliate when your skin is so sensitive already. How often do you still exfoliate and what do you use? |

I am using Retin A gel 0.01% now. My skin cleared from pimples but has a tiny thin layer of skin pilling everyday now. It would also make it hard to put any make up product on such flaky skin, so I use physical exfoliation (a cream with small bids) to buff it up. The one I used this morning was Mary Kay microdermabrasion in 2 steps. It works very nicely.
But if your skin is red or irritated under pilling (which happened to me before), I would cut on the use of Retinoids until it heals, then would start slowly, like using it every other day first, and then gradually go to more frequent use, when the skin stops over-reacting.
I also use VitC serum every morning and sunscreen!
For moisturizing effect on dry or irritated skin, I find that the pure Emu oil is the best. |

I have read that when your skin is flakey, concealer or a foundation with more of a thicker/pasty consistency works better. Something that you 'pat' on rather than rub/smear. Prevents the product from being pushed up under the edges of the flakey skin and accentuating it.
My friend is on Obagi (which includes retin A) and uses some sort of foundation from MAC that is in a pan. I'm not sure what it's called but she likes it. |

thanks for getting back.
My skin is finally over the red and flaky period that's why I am looking into a way to wear my makeup again.
I've heard that ppl on retinoid should use a mild exfoliators such as jojoba or papain. Anyone has reviews on any of those?
I am interested in trying the emu oil its_kristy mentioned. Where do you order it from? Also which of the vitC serum you can tolerate? Copper peptide serum is supposed to be good, too. Can someone share their experience? TIA |

if your skin is already flaking from RetinA, then it might be a challenge to add copper peptides. When I used them, I had a very similar effect as with Retin A, and the skin was also flaky. So I wouldn't want to put them together...
Is there any particular reason you want to use them together with RetinA therapy? |

I read that the copper peptides has damage repairing/heeling function and anti-inflammatory effects. Combining it with RetinA will have the synergy effect in anti-aging. I was not aware of the peeling effect. Which copper peptides do you use? Did you see a difference when using it? |
