My understanding is that the FDA requires that ingredient lists on all cosmetics (skincare, haircare, etc.) must be listed in the order of amount included in the product (e.g. most down to the least).
I recently got a trial kit of some Peter Thomas Roth products. One of the products (Un-wrinkle serum) includes the new synthetic snake venom Syn-ake. Now, the website claims that it contains 10% SNAP-8 along with several other skin "actives" listed with their percentages. But my question is, when I look at the ingredient list the SNAP-8 is listed following the other actives which are each listed at 3% on the web page. Is the main web page lying about the percentage of SNAP-8 or are they adding up the other actives @3% each to come up with a total of 12%? Can they do that?
This is strictly a curiosity question as, regardless of the efficacy of the product for me, I won't be paying $120/oz. I may buy some of the actives and add to a much less expensive product that I like.

| I don't know the answer Icegodess(love your name) re 'truth in advertising' re skincare products....but i do know that there is a certain perogrative given to businesses in advertising their products/services in general... (i know because i consulted a lawyer about mine....and was sort of shocked to hear what could be said/written under this 'law'). |

| Thanks for the link. I guess if I'm reading it correctly all the items listed on the PTR web page @3% ea are being added up to equal 12% as a "proprietary ingredient" mixture. But, it doesn't seem very proprietary if they are telling what the percentages are for those particular ingredients. |

DM, i'm thinking it may be the website info that's 'stretchiung the truth' ..perhaps under the auspices of the law rather than the ingredient list on the label which cannot stretch the truth
again i don't know if this is so ..but in my field i know i can say things in an ad that aren't exactly the truth...but still legal (not that i do that...i feel i have to answer to a higher inner standard than that!) |
