Hello all!
I have a mild form of psoriasis on my scalp. During my "breakouts", my scalp gets very itchy and flakey. Its quite gross.
I was at the hairdresser today and talked to her about my scalp problems. She recommended that I lightly dab mineral oil (using my fingertips) onto the flakey areas of my scalp. This is supposed to help remove the flakes and act as an anti-fungus home remedy. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this or tried it?
Hairdresser also said to use apple cider vinegar to help with the scalp. One part vinegar, five parts water in a spray bottle. There's tons of discussion of the benefits of apple cider vinegar so I will definitely give that a try.
Thanks! |

For itchy scalp...I have found Castor oil to be fabulous. Some EO's rosemary and clary sage...my scalp and hair are doing great. Once a week only into the scalp. Sleep with it on...wash in AM.
Google castor oil for hair...you will find a great deal of information.
ACV is also wonderful.
I have since added seakelp ferment to that as my hair and skin love it. |

I should warn you!!!
Castor oil is super thick, so ONLY rub it into the scalp, about 20-30 mls with the EO's should do the whole head nicely. You really don't want it in the rest of your hair. It will weigh it down. I use a little squeeze bottle with the oil mix inside to deliver directly to the scalp with a fine opening for the oil. Massage gently and go to bed or whatever, leave it on for 6-8 hours. Some suggest to add peppermint EO to scalp oils, however if your scalp is itchy...may want to pass on that and stick with rosemary and clary sage. Your call.
In the AM shampoo may need 2X...I know I do. And I spritz the shampoo with ACV + EO's[ tbsps ACV in 500 ml H20] massage in rinse...then condition. ACV again...and good to go.
Castor oil is a rather amazing oil. If you can get the unrefined...even better. [stronger scent of course...but you can decide if you wish to use it or not]
If you try it, let me know if you found it effective.
Also..castor oil can be used to treat athletes foot. Castor oil with tea tree oil and eucalyptus blue gum EO's...twice a day to infected tootsies...and it goes away. Beautiful stuff. More cost effective than over the counter products and equally effective. |
