I was so pleased with all the reviews of Dr.H products untill I found this
This is from makeupalley.com by one of the members
*****I know this sounds crazy, but read on...Are Any of you using ANY Dr. Hauschka skin care items and noticing increasing hair shedding on your head/and/or upset thyroid symptoms? I am. A well known Hauschka Rep, known as Kathy White, Ingredient specialist for the U.S, (who is very open to any questions you have with the Hauschka products) told me that some of the products contain mustard oil from Indian cress, & black mustard essential oil. (note:Several plants in the cruciferous (cabbage, mustard broccoli) family contain mustard oil which is known to block the conversion of thyroid hormone). She mentioned that she couldn't take the inner cosmetic supplement (one of the many Hauschka products that contain this mustard oil) which contains this pungent oil because it affected her thyroid and her hair shedding was one symptom!), the products also contain soy lecithin as an emulsifier in almost all Hauschka's products (soy contains compounds that interfere with thyroid hormones as well) and a few other things that can confuse your thyroid function. REMEMBER- Anything you put on your skin is easily absorbed into your blood stream- especially over a long period of time. That is why some people are prescribed topical ointments, progesterone cream, etc. which are all applied to the skin, absorbed into the body.) She also mentioned that fermented grain extract found in the Cleansing Milk can be a possible allergen to some people since it is derived from naturally fermented grain and some people can have an allergy to the yeasts and lacto-bacilli that it is fermented with. Also, she mentioned alot of ingredients that aren't even on the box the products come in when you buy them, or even on the list of ingredients which I thought was a little strange. Check out Paula Begoun's review on Hauschka- she even says the same thing.www.cosmeticscop.com. My hair has been shedding a bit, still under the normal amount of hair loss per day, but started shedding noticeably (on my shirt, in the shower as I ran my hands through my hair) about 2 weeks into using his whole skin and body care line. (Of course I went to my doctor and they ran all kinds of tests including a ton of blood tests, even hair loss tests and everything was normal)...If any of you notice your hair "shedding" strangely more than usual or any other thyroid-type symptoms, I'd really be interested in knowing. I love the skin care line, and I can't imagine having to stop using it. Hopefully my body will adjust!!!*******
Do any of you using Dr.H products have similar problems? |

I have used a LOT of Dr H stuff (including their body products) and have not had a problem with this. I also love cabbage and mustard (not together but you know what I mean!)
I'm not a doctor so I can't judge the validity of these statements but I thought that only SOME ingredients that are put on the skin can actually be absorbed by the skin. I thought that the whole problem with many skincare items was that the skin does not absorb the active ingredients.
Having said that, I do experience more hair shedding with certain shampoos but I don't think it has anything to do with the above. |

I know that everything said above is very subjective. You can basically take any ingredient from any of the products and say good and bad things. I guess it is the combination of ingredients and your personal skin type that can say if the product is right for you.
Mabsy, did you take a look at the site she is referring cosmeticscope.com? I find it rather amuzing. Paula is very hard to please with any of the skincare brands. And at the same time she came up with her own lline of products-Paula's choice. |

I have seen her website and I also have one of her books. I use the book more as a product guide than anything else. I find Paula's comments to be WAY too picky. There are so many products that have worked really well for me even though she reckons that they're crap. Frankly she lost me when she said that nobody should wear shimmery blue eyeshadow, or something along those lines I also find the fact that she has her own skincare line a bit ironic now. Especially, since I think there was (I'm not sure if that's still the case) at least one product (can't remember what it is but it was discussed here I think) that had an ingredient that she says is an irritant. |

I have used many Dr. H. products and have never had a problem with any of them. I believe that any ingredient in product something could be found to put a negative spin on it. |

I don't like Paula's reviews at all. I find them unhelpful and overly critical . . . interesting that she has her own line. I have been using Dr. Hauschka products for months now and I haven't experienced any hair loss. As a matter of fact, I have noticed my hair has had a 'growth spurt' in the last few months, although I cannot attribute it to the Dr. Hauschka skincare line . . . but I seem to have more since I've been using it and not less! It would be interesting if I had the oppposite reaction due to the same ingredients. |

I went to do facial yesterday. The woman that does my facials is a distributer for Herbalife. They are well known for their weight loss supplements, but recently they came up with skincare line-Dermajetics. She used all the products on me and I liked the texture of my face. So I bought cleanser, toner, and cream for combination skin. What I like so far is that they don't dry out my skin. I have a combination skin wich is prone to acne especially on the chin. My chin has all these blue spots from previous acne . I have tried Murad clarifying cleanser and toner, but the cleanser is too strong for my skin. My face was sooo dry, so I had to stop using it.
I was looking for a very mild cleanser that would also make my pores not cloged up. I was leaning towards Dr.H products, but now they have to wait. |

I've been using Dr H products for years and have loved them since the beginning. I have only good things to say about the products as well as the company. If you look hard enough you will find bad things said about any ingredient, product line, etc. Some opinions are very subjective and some are only true for a small percentage of people. The best thing to do is try for yourself and examine the results and come up with your own opinion. You really can't believe everything you read or hear nowadays anyway. |

I use the Cleansing Creme and clarifying toner from time to time. I also love the rejuv mask. I have never noticed any hair loss. I can't imagine that enough could be absorbed that it would be detrimental. The products contain such microscopic amounts of the ingrediants as to not be toxic, unless your body has maybe an allergic reaction? I think that argument could be found for a lot of differant brands and product ingrediants for a lot of differant people. |

This is funny... I just posted in another thread about how getting my thyroid in check helped my acne. My thyroid is underactive and one of my symptoms is hair loss. I have noticed a few of my symptoms (hair loss and a 9 day period) coming back around the time I started using Dr H. I think it would really be a stretch to say it's ingrediants(s) in Dr H products. I get more tests next week but even if my meds need to be increased it'll take several weeks for it to take effect. I find it extremely hard to believe. But concidering my symptoms reappeared around the time I starting using Dr H, I'd be really interested in seeing any scientific data to back this up. |

this is the thread i've been searching for..
i've notice my hair has been shedding lately..it's more like hair loss!! it really scares me since i really don't wanna go bald
have been using dr h's body oil for maybe 2 mths now and the hair loss problem started around the same time..so i'm wondering if it's just coincidence..??
i'll probably stop using all dr h's product and see the hair shedding problem will go away |
