I get 2 major underground zits every month like clockwork on my chin. 
Same spot...unbelievable!
I'm 46 years old (for crying out loud) you would think I was a teenager..
What do you use to treat this? I don't get acne anywhere else on my face but my chin and they are huge...  |

I never had a single pimple - truly - until I was around 30. Then I started getting hormonal outbreaks that got worse and worse. Finally, I went on a course of Roaccutane that blitzed them for 5 years. Then they started making a reappearance, so I did another course of Roaccutane, which lasted a further 5 years.
Recently the acne started coming back, but I've noticed after getting my Clarisonic last year that I haven't really had any further troubles...
Before the Clarisonic, I also had a Zeno which is great for getting rid of the nasties overnight. |

The birth control pill or bhrt & Retin-a are your best bets. I took Accutane twice as a teen, got hormonal acne in my early 30s.

I have been seriously considering getting the Clarisonic....Now I want it...

Retin A has helped me a lot, as has zinc.
Other things might help too, like B6, primrose oil, Nicomide Oral, and spironolactone. |

| Have you ever seen a doctor/derm for that? Usually hormonal acne is indicative of an underlying problem with the organs that produce hormones and it's an actual medical condition |

| I bought a supplement to see if it would help with melasma. It's called DIM and it supposed to help metabolize estrogen. It didn't help with that but it actually keeps my skin from breaking out! I went from teenage acne to hormonal acne. I don't think there was ever a break. I'm 48 and have been taking it for a few years. I really believe it works, because every time I get lazy and stop taking it a few days----there's the zit on my chin. If I'm consistent I don't don't seem to get any breakouts. It's inexpensive too. |

| I currently have hormonal acne (they always seem to pop up just after my period) but I have 3 HUGE ones! I use clarisonic everyday...they still arise and there is nothing you can really do to prevent these giant monsters. I also have zeno which I use on it to try to clear them up faster and I dab Murad on my zits over night |

I find that I cannot use cheaper brands like Olay, as much as I wish I could - they give me terrible cystic acne.
I envy people who rave that the results from Olay (for example) are as good as La Mer etc, but the truth is I find drugstore brands inferior in terms of quality (ie they may have the same actives, but they have cheap fillers too) and they break me out.
My 22yr old niece thought she was just having acne until I saw she was using Olay and told her to stop. Her skin cleared up soon after.
My skin is not sensitive (I can use stuff like Retin-A etc), but it does not tolerate cheaper formulations at all. |

I use dermalogica ultra gentle cleanser, clarisonic daily as exfoliation, home-made Vit C serum, Retin-A at night. Valmont renewing pack for face mask. I'm a skin junkie, i've used many cheap products and many expensive products....found the best regime for me, but still can't prevent those huge hormonal cystic zits, I can only treat them |

| For me, the magic bullet has been avoiding dairy, coffee, and using tazorac. I still get minor breakouts, but the huge painful cysts that appeared on my chin every 26 days like clockwork seem to be a thing of the past. |

| I also suffer from the occasional hormonal breakout and I'm 48 years old! It has taken me a while to realize that the fastest way for me to get it under control was to use any product with Benzoyl Peroxide in it. If I apply a spot treatment with atleast 5% Benzoyl Peroxide as the active ingredient asap, it stops it quickly. I use the clarsonic daily and retin A for fine lines but these didn't prevent me from the odd breakout. Whilst I can't prevent a hormonal zit at least I now know how to prevent it from getting worst. Mine also appear like clockwork around the same area also, the chin or on the cheek. |

I have no scientific evidence for this, but I'm sure using that stuff on my acne for years actually broke down the collagen in my skin. Where I had acne (sides of the mouth, towards chin area) now looks a lot more aged than the rest of my face, I have sagging pouches in the exact area where I had acne. I wouldn't touch the stuff now. I use Zeno if I feel a spot forming, and if you zap it the minute you are aware of it, it tends to disappear. |

| BCGirl, you are still young. Don't let the acne ruin your skin - if it gets worse, ask your doctor for Roaccutane. I wish I had done so (see my post above). I was nervous of all the scare stories, but eventually my hormonal acne got worse and worse (starting sooner each month, hanging around longer, until I had acne all month long), that I accepted the doctor's offer to put me on Roaccutane. It was the best thing I ever did. |

| I have some hormonal pimples too. I have tried the Eight Greens mask from Eminence (the HOT one). It works really well (this is good for prevention). However it the hormonal pimple already there and you need to get rid of it, you may need to go to see doctor and get some anti-inflammatory medications corticosteroid (a cream form) and apply on it. |

If it truly is hormonal, than nothing topical is really going to help you much.
See your OB/GYN and your dermatologist. Depending on how severe it is they can prescribe low dose birth control pills and Spironolactone. The combination of these will definitely clear it up. |

I got acne for the first time ever at age 39 
Oral antibiotics cleared it up immediately but you can't stay on those forever. I was put back on the pill for endometriosis and that has normalized my oil production to be slightly dry.
So for me it was bcp and benzoyl peroxide that keep me clear continuously now, much better than any topicals I've tried. |
