I have been searching for a sunscreen that protects you as well as having no negative impact on your skin......is this impossible?!
I discarded sunscreens that use chemical ingredients that act within your skin to block the suns rays. I found that many of these chemicals are carcinogenic or damage dna or similar.
So i was left with the choice of a physical sunscreen......zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. I decided on zinc oxide as it offered broader protection as well as being anti inflammatory. However, i now read that it activates Matrix Metalloproteinases which seems to be a bad thing for skin.
So it seems we can lather our faces with chemicals that protect us from damage done by UV rays.....only to damge our skin by their own unique properties!
Im thinking titanium dioxide may be a better option.....until some research emerges that this is damaging too.
Maybe we are better doing nothing |

Seriously, I'm at my wits end. I have brown skin and haven't been exactly responsible about applying sunscreen to my oily-prone face. I've kept out of the sun religiously for years (mostly because I find it harsh, plus I go super dark within minutes), and if I know its unavoidable I use a physical for my body, and something as non-greasy as possible for my neck/chest & blot a little on my face.
With a fresh bruise scar on my cheek & all the warnings since I've started with tretinoin, I've just pored through endless articles & forums trying to figure out what's best, hoping for something non-greasy that doesn't interfere with my coloring (i.e. no pigments OR white caste), and went to afro-american and east indian blogs & forums, hoping for some advice. I found that a significant amount of dark-skinned people on there don't take sunscreen all too seriously and don't wear any at all, though they're extremely vigilent about taking care of their skin with all the proven & latest things. The ones that do use it seem to wear so many layers of makeup & powder, I'm not sure whether color or texture would bother them to the extent it does me. Could anyone here with dark skin please chime in if you're as particular?
Me, I give up. I have some Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Dry-Touch 45 which I'll start throwing on as much as I can stand. For someone who uses natural cleansers, doesn't wear moisturizer, & prefers just pressed powder or a touch of light coverage foundation, I feel like I'm wearing an oily, chemical mask. I'm feeling a bit pissy, I have to admit. grrrrr. |

LoriA, have you tried Devita's sunscreen? It is all physical (zinc), SPF30, and it is the best sunscreen I have used. It leaves 0 white cast and at least for this time of the year in the US it protects me. It isn't sticky, greasy, etc. and just leaves the skin very soft. I have no pigmentation on my face. It is $10-15 at Vitacost. Maybe you could try that one? |

I am going through a struggle right now with sunscreen. For years, I was using Skinceuticals UV Defence SPF 30, but over the years, it was clear to me that I need something stronger.
Eventually, through a help of a friend, I got Sofina, which was perfect! Now, it is discontinued.
I just ordered eltaMD sunscreen & will have to give that a try. |

Ive been looking at using Tinosorb as a sun cream. It seems safe and stable as far as i can tell.
Does anybody know of any sunscreen that contains only tinosorb plus natural ingredients? |

Another one you might like to try is DermaQuest SPF 30 Zinclear sunscreen. It's cosmetically elegant and works well. It goes on like a moisturizer. |

Rileygirl....is this the devita you're referring to?

I'm always on the lookout for a good sunscreen. I've been having good luck with the target version of olay sensitive. In fact I like it much better than olay's, but I'm still always on the hunt. |

That is it, fab50. It is heavenly. Love putting it on daily, which I don't think I can say for any other sunscreen I have used! |

Thanks rileygirl! I actually haven't been able to afford to try a lot of sunscreens, but I've been hearing so many things about that one, I'll give it a shot! I also haven't come across it here in Vancouver before, but I read somewhere that its available at Whole Foods, and we have one of those now, so I'll head out and get it. Cheers! |

This is why I know I absolutely have to try this as soon as my Burnout runs out (which might be sooner than expected, arms, chest ect )! There aren't many things that Riley loves or raves about!!! I just know it's got to be great! |

Anybody with Normal~Slightly Dry skin using the Devita sunscreen? I have very pale skin last thing I need is to look more pale. I prefer physical sunscreens but am running into many being really tacky on my face. I use Retin A, combine that with my very pale skin I burn easily so I have put up with the unpleasant feeling because protection is a must. |

I am very fair also and my skin is normal/occasionally slightly dry. I've used Devita - both the face version and the body one (on my face). Both are great, sink right in without a white cast. It's amazing how clear they look on the face - unlike any other physical sunscreen I've used. The body block is slightly more moisturizing and might be tacky on some, but the face version sinks right in. |
